Chapter 33
Web Of Darkness

He was intense.
A drug.
And I couldn't get enough,
no matter how much of him
I consumed.
He was potent and powerful
and he ruined me.
And I yearned to ruin.
I kept going back for more.
I swear if I were to rip
myself open,
It wouldn't be blood
that poured out of me.
It would be him.

~In fairytales there is always a prince charming and a bad guy. In real life prince charming is the bad guy.~

A sliver of light entered the dark room, throwing a long shadow across the floor of the person entering the room. Wincing, Arnav opened his burning eyes, to find the silhouette of Khushi standing in the doorway. He couldn't see her face, in the darkness, so he had no idea what she was feeling at the moment.
"Arnav, her voice was just a whisper of breath as she moved towards him, leaning against the wall, one leg spread before him, while an arm was propped over the raised knee of the other one, a flaming cigarette held in one hand.
Arnav put out a hand to shield his eyes from the piercing sunrays, cursing as they hit his retinas...
"What do you want?, he knew his voice sounded cruel, but he had no wish to meet anyone lest a nagging Khushi. He crushed the glowing tip of cigarette on the floor, ran a hand across his glistening face, wiping away the evidence of grief, then got up from the floor to stand by the window...
"Hiding away your guilt, Arnav?, her voice was completely without inflection. "It won't go away...you know, she moved to stand near him. "This darkness...is not enough to hide it, she whispered glumly more to herself than him, sweeping aside the curtains to let the light enter the room...
"Leave me alone Khushi...I am in no mood to fight with you, he said tiredly, rubbing at his temples. Taking out another cigarette from his side pocket, he put it between his lips, his hands running through all of his pockets, searching for the lighter...
"Here, he froze, seeing the flame rising from the lighter held in her hand, illuminating the beauty of her amber eyes. She had picked it up from the side table, where he had placed it first when he had come inside the room to mourn...
Her eyes had a lifeless quality in them, barren and desolate they returned his searching gaze emptily, as he moved his mouth closer towards the flickering flame...
She didn't put off the lighter, after he lit his cigarette, but remained still, like an unmoving statue, the flame dancing a tango over her pale face. Without moving his gaze from her face, he took the lighter from her limp hands and put it inside his pocket...

"Khushi, he murmured, waving a hand infront of her face to break her stupor, but she didn't blink and her hands remained outstretched, in the same pose when she was holding the lighter...
"Khushi, he called, a little strongly this time, causing her to blink and give a doleful smile. "You need a shave, she said, then as if in a trance she lifted a hand to touch the bristles forming over his cheeks. A tear leaked from the corner of her eye, but she paid no heed to it, as she caressed the beard growing along his jaw line...
Arnav clenched his jaw, beginning to hate her passiveness, he was rather she yelled and cursed him, beat at his chest or threw something at him. Clamping a hand over her fingers, he held them against his cheek. "You shave it then, he asked challengingly, hoping she would refuse. "Okay, her subdued answer surprised him into dropping her hand quickly, as if he had touched a live wire...

For the next fifteen minutes, she submerged herself completely in the task of shaving his beard. As she went to move away from him, he dragged a hand through his hair, faking a wince. "My hair are sticky...I think they need shampooing, cocking his head aside he threw a glance at her bland face, hoping that she would protest or refuse angrily, but incredulously she pointed towards the bathtub, asking him to lean his head into it...
He did as she had asked, all the time looking at her emotionless face through narrowed skeptical eyes. During the whole task, not a single word emerged from her tightly sealed lips. After she had finished washing his hair, she went down like an automaton, drying them with a towel...
"Why are you doing this princess...what is your motive?, the situation becoming unbearable for him, he clamped his fingers around her wrists, holding them in place above his head. "Washing your hair?...there is no motive, she looked blankly back at him. "I don't believe it, there must be something...maybe some hidden motive, he asked, one brow raised cynically. "No there is nothing...and I should be the one asking you that, she tugged at her hands, but he refused to let them go. "What?, he frowned.
Taking a deep breath, she fixed him with an agonized stare, "Why didn't you let me see my mother when she was taking her last breath?. Removing his grip from her wrists, he stood up from his perch. "I am not accountable to answer that...better not ask me again, he warned harshly. Then dragging the towel out of her limp hands, he set to dry his hair by himself...
"Why not?...are you going to kill me if I dared ask again...like you let my mother die without seeing me, she was no more passive, as she faced him squarely, staring fearlessly into his eyes. He shook his head, rolling his eyes heavenwards as if saying, God help me, then without answering her query, he pushed her out of his way and headed out of the bathroom into his room...
"You should kill me...lest I stab you in the back, she mocked bitterly, following him outside. "I am not going to answer your stupid queries princess...now get out of my room...you are getting on my nerves, he snapped, pulling out a fresh pair of shirt and trousers from his wardrobe...
"If you are not going to kill me then I will do it myself...not only I will get out of this room but I will get out of your life as well, her voice had a warning quality to it. He shrugged ignoring her threat and continued rummaging in his wardrobe, except when the sudden silence from her side roused his hackles in an unexpected way...
Turning on his heels like lightning, he lunged at her and wrenched his shaving razor out of her grasp, throwing it violently across the room. It hit the wall with a sharp ping and landed on the carpeted wall with a low thud...

"You stupid bitch...what were you going to do...take your own life, holding her arms in a vise like grip, he hauled her towards him. He couldn't get the image of her putting the razor on her wrists out of his mind, so he shook her until her teeth began to rattle...
"Yes...I am tired of you...tired of this life...it's my choice...my right...and I chose to end it, she hissed, her eyes sparkling with anger...
"Says who, he twisted her arms behind her back, jerking her closer. "You can't die without my permission Khushi Kumari Gupta...I don't give you that right, he hissed menacingly into her face. Then gripping her cheek with one hand, he squeezed it until her mouth formed an O', her eyes showing a combination of anger and pain...
"You are to live until I say otherwise...this life of yours is mine to do with as I please...and when I'll feel that I've had enough fun...I promise that I'll kill you with my own hands, he whispered darkly into her face, eyes glowing with a diabolical light...
"I am not your toy Arnav Singh Raizada, her hands tugged at his fingers, trying to prise them away from her face but in vain...
"What are you then my wife...my mistress...oh...now I remember there is another title for you...my wh**e?, he taunted, tapping a finger over his cheek in fake concentration...
The purring monster, suddenly raised its ugly head inside Khushi, her senses screaming with venomous hatred she raised a hand and slapped him across his face with all of her might. He rocked on his heels, head snapping aside, a red welt forming across his cheek. Her blow had all the pent-up fury of a woman scorned...
"You..., he raised a hand threateningly in the air, his eyes shooting daggers at her. "What?...bitch?...wh**e?...not going to call me names again...why not hit me...beat me if you want?, she hissed, bitterly, a ball of salty tears forming in her throat, but damn her if she was going to cry infront of him...
"Get out of here Khushi...just go, he looked into her bitter face for a moment before, shaking his head in exasperation. "Just get out of my sight, turning away from her, he waved a hand in dismissal...
Blinded by her tears, Khushi blundered outside at once, stumbling along the corridor she headed towards her own room...
Once she had closed the door of her room behind her, she groped for the wall to support her shaking legs, then somehow lurched towards the bed, throwing herself face down on the bedcovers...
Grabbing a white pillow, she put her face into it and cried, her screams muffling against the snowy covers...

"I am going for a business dinner tonight...so don't wait for me...just eat your dinner and then go to sleep, Arnav announced casually, checking his bow tie in the mirror. Having spent all afternoon crying while locked up in her bedroom, she was feeling much better in the evening. She had been feeling a little guilty on slapping him this afternoon and hoping to make amends to him, she had stopped by his room, to call him downstairs for dinner...
But seeing him wearing his tuxedo, she had frozen on the threshold, her hand which she had raised to knock on the door was still suspended in mid-air...
He must have noticed her presence, because he announced at once about his dinner plans. His back still turned towards her, he sprayed a generous amount of perfume over his body, tapped a little of it over his neck, fixed his bowtie then turning towards her, he threw a fleeting glance over her pale face...
"You didn't tell me about this business dinner, she asked slowly, her eyes moving hungrily over his face, taking in the beauty of his sharp and smooth jawline, winged eyebrows, aquiline nose, the deep furrows bracketing the sides of his mouth and the glowing eyes...
Topaz eyes, the eyes of a tiger, waking from deep slumber, filled with sleep yet alert and cautious, mesmerizing their prey...
Her sixth sense warned her that he was going on a hunt...but who was the prey?...
"I had no reason to...you were mourning the loss of your mother and I didn't want to disturb you...but don't worry I am taking Sam with me...she had attended many business parties with me and she very well know how to be a perfect host...one courteous lady she is, he spoke casually, but why she had an in linking that his words were meant as a jibe for her rather than a normal praise for Sam's abilities...
Because she suddenly felt a certain kind of burning in the pit of her stomach, her throat felt raw as if she had breathed in caustic fumes...
Lifting his dinner jacket from the back of the dressing chair, he threw it over his shoulder and without giving her a backward glance, strode out of the room...
"He didn't even say goodnight, she whispered to herself, looking at his broad retreating back, her eyes wide with hurt...

"Why didn't you bring Khushi with you?, Sam asked admonishingly, looking regal and resplendent in a couture red gown. Her hair was swept back from her face in a sleek bun, letting two curls escape from the confinement, giving her a sophisticated yet at the same time a softer look. "Did someone tell you that you look ravishing today, Samantha Yadav?, he winked, completely ignoring her query.
"Yeah, I know almost every man in the party had told me that...you men are all the same, she rolled her eyes in mock exasperation...
"Some might be really good...at heart...you know, he said smiled widely. "Nah, only you are, she joked good-naturedly. "Me...nope I am one of the baddies, he smiled wolfishly. "Ohhh...so you better steer clear off me...shooo...off you go, she pushed at his shoulder in mock anger...
Arnav threw her a narrowed glance from the corner of his eye, then they both burst into laughter...
"On a serious note, Arnav, why didn't you bring Khushi along with you, she might have felt better after coming here, Samantha asked again, heading with him towards the buffet table...
"She irritates me enough as it is at home, why do I need to bring her here and spoil my whole night, he jerked his head irritably. "On the other hand her mood wasn't good, I thought it better to leave her alone", he argued seeing Sam cocking her head aside unconvincingly...
"I don't think so that's the case Arnav...you know that your arguments are very weak, the reason that you didn't bring her with you is that you are possessive about her, you are afraid that if any man dared praised or complimented her beauty you would punch the living daylights out of him...and you don't want to start a gossip because of that", she explained knowingly.
For a moment Arnav looked disbelieveingly at Sam than throwing back his head he roared with laughter. "That is one hell of a cock and bull story that you've thrown my way Sam...but it's time you curb your romantic imagination babe, because this is sure not the case with me".
"It's time you start believing this story Arnav...because the truth is just coming your way to bite you", Sam pointed her eyebrows towards the entrance of the hall, her eyes dancing with suppressed mirth...

Arnav's laughter died down in his throat, as soon as he noticed a smiling Khushi, floating merrily towards him on a cloud of black silk...
She was encased in a sheath of black silk, which curved and hugged every part of her body, leaving nothing to imagination. Carrying a silver clutch and wearing a pair of silver outrageous yet at the same time funky snake-shaped earrings which brushed her naked shoulders, she swayed towards him, her silver heeled sandals making a cluttering sound on the polished floor.
Amidst the off-shouldered and lace-sleeved gown her neck rose like a swan, enhancing her smooth alabaster skin, her naked shoulders and her round angelic face. Her hazel eyes which were accentuated by smoky eyed makeup glowed golden under the chandelier lights, giving them a predatory quality...
White teeth gleamed beneath pink glistening lips, locating Arnav amongst the crowd she threw a smile in his direction...
Her light brown hair swept neatly away from her brow in side twists, were left loose at the back, falling almost to her hips in massive curls, with every step she took towards him, they bounced, giving them a profound vitality. The silk of her dress slithered across her body, like the skin of a snake, causing him to suck in a distressed breath...

"What the hell?", he closed his mouth with a snap...
She certainly looked like a walking medusa, ethereal, mesmerizing yet equally dangerous, bewitching every man in the hall. They stared at her awestruck, while some boys gawked at her. Women began straightening imaginary creases from their dresses and touching their hair nervously. Some threw her envious glances while others looked at her with venom in their eyes, their spouses staring at her with lust-filled eyes...
"How in the name of God she came to be here?, he hissed through clenched teeth, throwing a suspicious glance at Sam, who raised both of her hands, shaking her head in negation. His answer came to him in the form of Ramlal, who entered the room behind Khushi, looking like a lost puppy...
When his gaze zeroed in on Arnav he signalled in her direction, indicating his helplessness in the situation...

Reaching by his side Khushi pouted,"Hello darling. Than completely ignoring Sam who was standing beside him, she leaned in to kiss his cheek, her aim landing on his ear as he jerked his head aside. Sam hid her smile, giving a deliberate cough instead...
"Behave...if you don't want to cause a scandal, he hissed, catching her arm in a viselike grip. "But I do want to cause a scandal babe, she replied, pulling her arm away from his hold, her eyes sparkling maliciously.
"You wish, he smiled infuriatingly, while his eyes glittered with murderous intent. Leaning towards him so low, that her bodice gaped and he could clearly view the white slopes of her breasts, she whispered in a scintillating tone, "Oh I wish it babe...if the situation demands, I can do more than that. His jaw clenched so tightly that the bone structure of his face could be shone clearly through the skin...
"Bring it on then sweetheart...let's see what can you do...but remember one thing clearly...everything has it's consequences and before this night ends you'll get your fair share of retribution, he warned coldly...
Ramlal and Sam who were watching the heated conversation, their eyes moving two and fro between them, exchanged an amused glance together...
"Considered it on handsome, she stretched her lips in a challenging smile, then before he could give her a proper reply, she flicked back her loose curls, and giving a titillating laughter sailed past him...

"Dance with me Sam, grimly, he held a hand towards Samantha. Noticing his eyes still fixed on Khushi's retreating back, she shook her head sadly. "It's not me with whom you want to dance Arnav. "Bullshit...I am going to dance with you, he put emphasis on going. "Clever of you Arnav, neither denying nor accepting the fact that it's only her that you want, she mocked. "Just do as I am saying Sam...don't ask questions that I've got no wish to answer, he said curtly. Knowing that arguing with him won't bear her any fruit, she sighed in resignation and placed a hand over his...
Khushi had already joined the fray of dancing couples, her partner a boy of about twenty who was looking at her adoringly as she lead the dance on the floor. As Arnav twirled Sam on the dance floor, Khushi began dancing exuberantly. Her partner nearly lost his balance and bumped into Arnav, causing him to almost drop Sam on the floor...
"Oops...sorry, she batted her eyelashes innocently, as Arnav threw her a filthy gaze...
"Sorry, her partner said, shuffling his feet nervously, his ears red with embarrassment. "Take care young man, she is a very exuberant dancer, the way she leads people to dance many are not able to keep up with her, his tone cynical, Arnav patted the boy's shoulder almost sympathetically. "I...I...will, the boy stuttered, blinking his eyes owlishly...
"Don't tell him about your experience babe...otherwise he will think you were not able to keep up with me, winking at Arnav, she gave a girlish giggle. He cocked his head aside, lips twisting in a scornful smile. "Do you really believe that princess?...care to dance with me?, he said, one brow raised mockingly...
Sam frowned at them, wrinkles of worry lining her forehead. The challenge, issued normally by Arnav had a hint of something deep hidden inside it. He was no longer teasing, or humoring Khushi, but his expression belied something else...
It rang alarmingly that the usually polished surface of his topaz eyes was dull, almost dead. Something dark and macabre, lingered beneath the surface of his otherwise relaxed manner.
She had seen that same expression on his face on numerous occasions when he would tease the enemy, play with them, creating the illusion of peace and when they would step forward into his territory he would close in on them, like the ultimate venus fly trap, crushing their very essence...
Her sixth sense warned her about the possible outcome of the dangerous game, that Arnav had begun playing with Khushi, but she was helpless to stop it..."No Arnav, she whispered, shaking her head in negation, a helpless look on her face...

Chapter 34

Web Of Lies

as the silken webs stick to you
an ignorant bliss is written in your eyes
you are stricken by a venom inflicted
you're caught in a web of lies
there's a difference between visible and hidden
a difference between spiders and flies
you're a victim of innocence once bitten
you're caught in a web of lies

~Normal is an illusion. What is normal to the spider is chaos to the fly.~

"When you become quiet like this...you are usually planning someone's downfall...mind telling me who is the unfortunate guy this time, Ramlal joked, watching Arnav who was resting his head on his arm chair, eyes closed, hands placed on his chest, long tapered fingers twined together.
"It's not a guy, he answered casually, keeping his eyes closed, lines of concentration marring his forehead. "Ah, so it is a girl. He looked at Arnav's face for a moment, his own puzzled then his eyes widened with apprehension. "it's Khushi isn't it...you are planning her downfall, he spoke in a hushed tone...
"Haven't you done enough to the poor gal...what more is there to destroy, Ramlal said admonishingly. "To say she is a poor gal is just an exaggeration...that word is not meant for her, he answered lazily, opening his eyes to slits. When Ramlal continued looking at him through disapproving eyes, he raised his arms above his head, took a deep yawn, cracked his knuckles and straightened himself in the chair. "Don't look at me like that she is not red-riding hood and neither I am a big bad wolf, he sighed.
"Except for acting like one, Ramlal scoffed. "What do you want me to say...that I should give up my twenty-five years of planning for that chit...she can't douse that fire that has always been burning and eating me up from inside...no one can, he shook his head bitterly. "No one is asking you to give up your revenge Arnav...but whatever are you going to do to that girl...you better stop it...it's already enough, he advised in a gentle tone.
"Yes, as I've said so...it's enough Ramlal...enough of my patience...you've got no idea that woman is the epitome of real evil...she represents everything that I despise...and don't forget whose daughter she is...Sashi Gupta's, whom I hate with every fiber of my being, he said, his lips curling back with a sneer, a vitriolic expression in his eyes.
"I believed that too before...but she is not Sashi...that much I have understood. Arnav unfurled himself from the chair and went to stand by the window, his face shadowed."But for me she is just an extension of Sashi...and whenever I try to think rationally that she couldn't be like her father...she proves me wrong everytime...damn her, to emphasize his point, Arnav punched the wall beside the window with frustration.
"You know what Ramlal...she is upto playing some sort of game with me...she is hiding something from me...some sort of plan...and to carry that plan of hers, she wants to marry me, he rubbed his forehead tiredly. "I sympathize with her...it must be really tough for her to propose to you,Ramlal replied jokingly...
"Ah...she doesn't need your sympathy Ramlal...she can do without it, Arnav sighed."I know she is one hell of a tough woman...but know this also Arnav...you are not indifferent to her...however much you try to ignore, but there is some sort of connection that exists between you two,he spoke in a serious tone...
"You are wrong Ramlal...nothing can exist between us, he shook his head in bitter vehemence. A strange smile broke over Ramlal's face and he got up from his chair."Then why are you keeping her with you...just let her go, he argued. "If you feel nothing for her then prove yourself. Arnav fell silent, his hands searching for a cigarette and lighter in his pockets. Founding one he lit it, placing it between his lips and took a great puff, releasing the smoke in the air. "I will...but this time I won't do anything...I won't dirty my hands trying to get rid of her...she will leave off her own accord, he said almost absentmindedly.
Ramlal smiled sadly, then went to stand near him. "What are you planning Arnav?...don't be rash okay, he asked placing a hand over his shoulder, lines of worry etched on his face.Nothing that I can't handle...don't worry, he replied breezily, patting Ramlal's hand...
Ramlal pursed his lips in disapproval but said nothing."I should go now, shrugging his hand off his shoulder Arnav crushed the cigarette into the ashtray. As he made his way out of the room, Ramlal watched the cigarette caught ablaze, burning into cinders...
He lifted the ashes, letting them fall through his fingers on the carpeted floor. "How longer are you going to burn Arnav?, he whispered sadly, closing his eyes, the image of burning cigarette still playing in his mind...

Smiling grimly, Arnav ignored Sam's plea and clutching the hand of Khushi, began leading her towards the dance floor. The buzz of the crowd died down to a hush. Countless eyes watched their progress towards the dance floor, silently, their pupils glowing eerily in the chandelier light. Some had curiosity in their depths while some were shadowed by envy, their dancing bodies now stationary on the white and black checkered floor like pieces scattered over the chessboard, awaiting their turn in the chess game...
Noticing the heat of Sam's gaze at her spine, Khushi looked back at her; she was watching them with a doomed expression on her face. Her hapless gestures, made her uneasy, something was not right and she was trying to point it out to her, while all the time Khushi's dance partner had been stupidly looking at the debacle before him, his mouth gaping, eyes moving to and fro like a tennis ball...
"By the way...have I told you that you look gorgeous today, Arnav whispered into her ear pulling her closer for the dance, his hot breath caressing her shoulder, causing her to give a tiny unconscious shiver...
Her head jerked upwards to look into his face, shocked surprise etched on her features. "Are you alright Arnav...you've never complimented me before...what's the occasion, she asked suspiciously, narrowing her eyes into mere slits...
"There's a first time for everything princess...isn't it, he said almost teasingly pulling her snug against him.
His mood was light but she was quite able to detect an undercurrent in his tone. He was up to something but she had no idea what he was planning?
And for the next fifteen minutes he went on making sure that she would think of nothing else but him and the way their bodies brushed against each other. The music had changed to a romantic upbeat number and she almost felt hypnotized as he twirled and dipped her. Her gown swirling around her legs, she moved along his form, matching him step for step. The dance transformed into a passionate one and his hands moved across her back, caressing her bare skin, almost lightly like a light breeze blowing on a summer night...
Her hands caught his sinewed arms, as they reflexed lifting her up in the air, twirling her around. She felt mesmerised by the gleaming gold of his eyes, as they looked into her, building a web of darkness around her...
She didn't like that feeling one bit, the control he was exerting on her made her feel like a doll, without any conscious will of her own...
But her body was powerless to follow her will as it moved along his, like a puppet dancing to the tune of his master...
She let him feel her resentment through her narrowed eyes, to which he gave a knowing smile and dropped her own her feet.

Severing all contact with her body, Arnav suddenly pushed Khushi away from him, causing her to loose her balance. She tottered on spindly heels, before catching the arm of her neighbor, a portly looking man wearing a three piece suit. The man stretched his lips in a toothless smile, as she made herself stand upright, by taking the support of his arm...
Throwing a blood curdling glare at the portly man that would have made any live creature shrank back in fear, she took her hand away from his arm and looked towards Arnav who was now making his way towards Sam...
She felt apprehension trickle down her spine, feeling a kind of determination stamped on his face...
Catching hold of Sam's arm Arnav almost dragged her towards the raised platform on one side of the room that acted as the center stage to the ballroom. Taking the mike from the DJ he raised it to his lips and announed, "Attention please". As his voice boomed in the hall, people began to turn towards him. He smiled broadly at the curious crowd who were now beginning to fall silent...
"Ladies and gentlmen, you must be quite curious to know what I am going to say", he glanced towards Sam who was biting her lips nervously, her gaze was fixed on the still form of Khushi standing among the crowd...
He could detect the frozen paleness on Khushi's face, and his lips twisted bitterly...
"Well to douse the burning fire of your curiosity, I am going to make an announcement today", he breathed in his next statement in the mike, causing the onlookers to break out in excited whispers. "Arnav my boy...please make it quick...otherwise...I'll have a heart attack from waiting", an old businessman said jokingly and the crowd broke out in hearty laughter...
"No, Singhania I am not going to make you wait longer than necessary", Arnav winked at him and people giggled again, flocking around the stage like birds of prey...
"No, Arnav don't do this", Sam hissed, edging away from him. "Yes", Arnav smiled grimly and puttinghe an arm around her waist, pulled her to his side. "Meet Samantha Yadav", he took a great pause, looking straight into Khushi's shocked face. "My fiancee", his next words dropped a bombshell and a tear left the corner of Khushi's pained eyes, burning a trail down her cheek...
She looked like a hunted animal, defeated and crushed...

The gathering sizzled with the news. Cameras started flashing, cell phones began clicking and people broke out in excited chattering...
But Khushi's world had no sound, she could see nothing, hear nothing amid the buzzing onlookers. Through the darkness gathering infront of her eyes, Arnav's face was just an outline, a mere shadow, his cruel eyes smiling, taunting her...
The eyes of a predator...
Cutting through her body, shredding her soul to pieces...
So that was his plan, from the very beginning, she thought, feeling sick to her core. All this time, when she had thought that he was falling for her, he had been weaving a web of lies around her, leading her to believe that she was succeeding in trapping him...
Before she could whisper checkmate, he had checkmated her in her own game...
"We are going to get married, this week", he announced to the buzzing crowd. Khushi staggered, almost falling down to the floor, his announcement going through her heart like a burning knife. Men and women jostled her as they strode past her, heading towards the stage to congratulate Arnav...
Some reporters were taking down notes, scrabbling furiously, while many of them shook hands with Arnav...
A far standing bunch of businessmen, raised their wine glasses to toast him...
But Khushi was oblivious to everything except the rising panic inside her. "No...no way this was happening to her", she thought...
She wasn't going to crumble beneath the storm of his revenge, there was no way in hell that she was going to get beaten at her own game, she thought as anger began to rise inside her amidst the feelings of panic...
"It's not over Arnav...this game of ours has just taken a new turn, she whispered to herself, raising her chin stubbornly. Then taking a deep breath to compose herself she headed towards to where Arnav was in deep conversation with the reporters, giving them bytes about his upcoming marriage with Samantha Yadav.
Her gait was confident, and determination was stamped over her features as she reached to Arnav's side, facing him...

"Congratulations Mr. Raizda, she raised a mocking toast to him, then gulped the whole contents down in one go. The wine burned her throat, but the pain was nothing compared to the cold fire that seemed to consume her with it's burning iciness...
"Ah, here's Khushi Kumari Gupta, he mocked turning towards her. "Thanks a lot for your wishes...Miss Gupta, he smiled broadly, holding out a hand...
Gripping his fingers she got up on the platform. Smiling at the reporters who had begun to click madly, she leaned into his ear and hissed,"Like hell, I will let you get married to anyone else...you are not reneging on our deal Raizada.
"And how are you going to stop me princess, he said through his teeth, the smile still pasted on his face for the paparazzi's benefit...
"Like this, she said, stretching herself to her toes, the high heels making it possible for her to reach a hand behind his head, and pull his face down by grabbing his hair...
Then before he could utter a word of warning, she locked her mouth with his, kissing him clearly infront of the gathered crowd...
For a moment a kind of hushed silence fell over the whole hall, then like a volcano bursting forth, voices broke over, echoing and gaining momentum with every second. Bulbs flashed, cameras clicked crazily and people jostled each other, vying to get a clear view of the kiss...
Khushi could feel his cold unresponsive lips beneath her and she began to double her efforts into making him respond. His hands that were held in the air due to shock, landed on her shoulders, fingers digging into the skin. To her complete triumphant he kissed her back momentarily before pushing her away, breaking contact with her mouth...

"What the hell are you doing?, he whispered ominously looking over her head in the direction of the gathered people. "Mr. Raizada, what is the meaning of this kiss?...what is your relationship with Miss Gupta?, a reporter chose that moment to butt in. That gave courage to the other paparazzi and soon all of them had broken into a flurry of words, flocking around a smirking Khushi and a seething Arnav...
Sam had scuttled away out of the danger zone and was now looking at them worriedly. When her eyes met Arnav's she shook her head, as if to say I told you so. "Mr. Raizada...Mr.Raizada...please tell us are you going to marry Samantha Yadav after this or not?, a young man of about thirty shoved his mike beneath Arnav's nose, a kind of maliciousness evident on his face...
"No, he is not going to marry Samantha...infact he was never going to marry anyone, Khushi announced loudly, directing the mike towards her. "And why do you say that mam?, the reporter asked curiously, now pushing the mike at her. The excitement of catching an evidence about a juicy scandal, could be seen clearly on his face...
"Because he promised to marry me first, but he hadn't planned on delivering it...when he got tired of me, he enacted this scene of faking his engagement to get rid of me...Ikissed him so he couldn't snare another woman, she explained, faking a pained look on her face...
"Khushi, Arnav warned in a low voice, so only she could hear it. But she gave him a spiteful look and moved back to face the reporter's queries. "This is a big accusation that you've just made, Miss Gupta...are you sure that he promised to marry you?, the man asked quizzically. "Yes, looking at his past record, he had two failed marriages, a string of broken-hearted girlfriends and about his mistresses...you all know very well that they are countless...but I chose to ignore it all, thinking that he really loved me...but see what I got, she blinked her eyes and broke into great gulping sobs...
Samantha made a sound of distress, a horrified look on her face, while Arnav stood still, wearing a stony expression on his face."Is she right Mr. Raizada...what is your motive behind this fake engagement of yours as the lady excused...did you really deceive her?, the man released a torrent of queries atArnav who turned his cold eyes towards the reporter, freezing him in his tracks...
Samantha chose that moment to step forward and the crowd parted before her like Red Sea parting before Moses. "It's enough...no comments buddies, she said firmly, tugging at Khushi's arm."Miss Gupta have you got any evidence supporting your claim, any picture of you and Arnav together?, asked another reporter. "Yes there is, she replied victoriously, waving her cellphone in a dramatic way. "Arnav, Sam began nervously but stopped short at the look on his face. He looked unfazed, unperturbed by the web of lies she was spinning around him...
"Here...I'll show you, she unlocked her cellphone and began searching for the photos of him while they both were sleeping together and which she had taken before their deal. But to her disconcentration the searched showed no pictures of him. Her heart sinking to the pit of her stomach she slided her fingers across the touch screen, searching madly for pictures of him in various folders, but there was none to be found...
Someone had deleted them altogether, leaving the pictures of her own individual self behind. She knew when he had gifted her with a new cellphone and and sim card he had inserted a tracker in her cellphone to track her calls and location without telling her about it. So she had always been careful while going out or making calls. But in her overconfidence she had eliminated one element from her thoughtful thinking...
That he could also check her phone, physically and delete the photos that would have otherwise made for a powerful evidence of their association.

"So Miss Gupta, you are not going to show us your evidence?, Arnav who had been watching her dispassionately beneath raised brows all this time, asked mockingly. His arms were folded across his chest, and his feet were held apart a little, like a warrior surveying the defeated army of his rival, after gaining victory over them...
So that was his original plan. It was not about portraying a fake engagement as she had first thought it to be but it was about her humiliation, and he had succeeded in depicting her as the ultimate home wrecker, a sick bitch who prey's on another woman's man...
And stupidly she had gone and completed his vengeance for him, trapping herself in her own web of lies...
It was there, in his mocking, wolfish smile, in his predatory eyes, the knowledge of her defeat...
"You deleted them, she said almost absentmindedly, her voice only a thin whisper of pain. "Tuh...tuh Miss Gupta shame on you, he jeered at her then turning towards the crowd he leaned into the mike held in his hand and said in a loud and clear voice, "Clearly she has got no evidenceto support her claim and is making a mountain out of a molehill.
"Then what's the truth, one of the excited reporters piped in. "It's true that I have met her a couple of times, during the case of her father, but in essence had never been associated with her in the past in the kind of way as to propose her for marriage, he shook his head vehemently to emphasize his point.
"She is a good friend of Sam and that's how I have been with her, treating her courteously...but I had no idea that she was going to stab her friend in the back, he lied viciously, amused eyes flicking over her lazily, noticing her bloodless face...

Sam looked horrified, her gaze flitting helplessly between Arnav and Khushi. The situation was out of her control. She couldn't side with one person and leave the other one to face the humiliation. Siding with Khushi meant betraying Arnav and to leave Khushi alone meant throwing her to the wolves...
But for the life of her she couldn't interfere. She very well knew her place and the fact that she was a coward when it came to saying the right thing. There were a lot of things about Khushi that had inspired her, she was in awe of that bad ass girl who was confident enough to fight for her rights and courageous enough to not give up ever even after losing the fight...
"That's a bloody lie, Khushi sucked in an outrageous breath, lips quivering with fury. His mouth twisting with cynicism, Arnav spoke derisively, "We all know very well who is the liar here Miss Gupta...your game is over...so you should better scamper away.He waved a hand gesturing her to get out...
"I will leave when I want to not because you wish me to leave, she announced stubbornly, her mouth pulled taut with barely controlled fury...
"Okay, if you won't leave, then I will leave, Arnav shrugged his shoulders indifferently then clamping a hand around Sam's wrist he half walked and half pulled her across the polished floor towards the exit...
"You can't leave me alone here...you bas***d, Khushi yelled behind him in indignation, but he paid no heed and went on dragging a nervous Sam outside. Amid the scandalous whispers and the jeering comments of the people she ran after them. Their exit was being watched by a throng of exhilarated reporters, who followed them at their heels clicking away their photos madly...
Khushi caught up with Arnav as he was hailing a cab. "Don't you dare leave me here, she hissed through clenched teeth, hooking a hand on his collar and catching a bunch of his shirt she tried to pull him to face her. But he shook his arm away, drawing back as if she was a nuisance. A cab had reached by their side. So, Arnav quickly put an arm around Sam's shoulder and guided her in the taxi, soon joining her on the backseat...
Ram Lal had also arrived behind them and was now looking owlishly at the spectacle, an incomprehensible expression on his face. Arnav threw him his car key in which he had arrived at the party, gesturing him to drive Khushi away from the scene...
He caught it in his hands, first staring at it foolishly, then at Arnav's taxi which was now backing at a super fast speed and before he could say something it was gone with a screech of tires and burning rubber, raising a cloud of dust behind it...
He had abandoned her like the sinking ship...
Khushi sank down to her knees, her eyes gritty with unshed tears...

I feel so so sad for Khushi... Arnav really plays a lot with her... I think the day he realizes what he feels for her, she will be gone so far that he will not have her around...

Khusi totally underestimated arnav she in her overly confidence brought humiliation for herself i know she is also very evil n can go to any length to destroy her enemy but here she lost in her over confidence i think now arnav won't keep her with him he had thrown her out from his life n house like he told ramlal earlier that she will leave him with her own will but I don't think khusi will accept her defeat so easily she will come back n at that time with more vengeance or may be this humiliation will change her forever.

What is Arnav's game?

He clearly has feelings toward her but wanted to ignore it and to dim the feeling he is using Sam..

Why can't Khushi move away from Arnav, she has our own plan..

Who is going to win and who us going to lose?
