Ratan has done many things for Diya like defending her. But to be clear, many of the things he has done for her could be interpreted as things best friends do for each other. But the things that differentiate his feelings as a lover from a best friend are:

- His attraction towards Diya. Even during their first meeting, there was a palpable sense of attraction towards Diya from Ratan's side.
- The complete trust in and transparency with her. His trust and openness with her is more of that of a life partner than a best friend.
- His feeling of lack of self-adequacy as a life partner. Ironically, this is further proof that he loves Diya. We all don't feel this lack of self-adequacy with our best friends. We don't worry that we can't keep our friends happy and don't feel this pressure to please our best friends. We feel more of this pressure and worry with our life partners as love is a lifetime partnership and small mistakes can break a marriage easily apart. We feel more of a need to put in effort to foster and strengthen this lifetime bond.
- Jealousy. Unless, your best friend's time is taken up fully by someone else and you feel that they aren't dedicating enough time for you, you don't usually feel jealous when your best friend spends time with someone else. Even so, there is usually more anger than jealousy with your best friend, as compared with your life partner.

Excellent post... Wonderful points.. 👏👏
And one thing i keep repeating here and there.. You do not go and touch your best friend so freely and readily as Ratan does with Diya. When Yash hugged him a little longer than usually tk wipe off Diya's kiss mark from his cheek, Ratan was all uncomfortable...jabke Yash is his nephew and best friend... Ok ok same gender case... but still.. i never find him willing to break a hug with Diya! I never find him getting cautious about touching her at all!
Why!!!!!? Why does he feel so comfortable touching her?

actually ratan's touches so far have actually been friendly only and not romantic. it is not uncommon for friends to hug and hold hands freely.

i know each one is different but i can identify with it since my group of friends is pretty comfortable with each other in this sense. i can also understand why he would be bothered by yash's hug because yash was literally getting on top of ratan and squeezing him in...definately not normal 😆

i am very sure that when ratan's touches become romantic, we will all notice how different they will be from now.

Superb post!
(In the bold) Mujhe tumhari yeh line bohot acchi lagi hai.
When we are friends we say many rubbish things to each other though we know that those words can make them feel bad. But that is the best thing when we irritate our friends. They become very angry and like "I will kill you"

But here is two things, first, Ratan irritates Diya by saying his gadha wala logic. Second, He only panics when Diya cries.
Ghum phir kar ek hi bat hui IS GADHE KO DIYA SE PYAR HOGAYA HAI.

You are right actually... In friends, touching hugging to SOME extent happens and thats fine...totally.
I also believe that a lover's touch brings tingles and all...
But I have a theory for Ratan's case . It is he who thinks its all friendly friendly... but then, it is also a fact that your beloved's touch comes very naturally to you. Your partner's touch is just like second nature.. and there is a level of comfort when your partner (whom you trust and love implicitly) touches you. Diya never initiates her touches or hugs mostly...it can be because she is cautious by nature or she subconsciously avoid touching him to avoid getting more attached with him...Its Ratan who keeps hanging to her pallu. He is the one who initiates mostly. Why?
I feel he trusts her so much and loves her soo deeply that its like without even thinking he runs into her.. Shes not his mother, for him, shes not even his girfriend, and I dont think the way he touches her is the way a friend finds comfort in another friend... yet Ratan finds comfort in Diya's embrace. His heart knows this...his body knows this... but he doesnt realize.
He hugs kakimasa and kakusa because it comes naturally to him as he considers them as his parents.
I dont see him touching anyone else randomly. With Isha jijisa...hes very careful... With Nitya bua sa and Sakshi, he doesnt go around hugging just like that. With Yash it comes naturally because he considers him his friend and nephew... But with Diya, the intensity is the most ... the frequency is the most...and it cannot just because of the fact that he considers her a friend only... I really find it different and a little...telling through the body language. 😊
