Paas aaye...
Dooriyaan phir bhi kam naa hui
Ek adhuri si hamari kahani rahi

Shravan ran behind Suman calling her name wanting for her to listen to his plea, to give him one chance. Just one chance to right the wrongs he made, to have a sliver of hope that there was something left between the two to salvage so that they could build a new foundation of their relationship on the broken pieces of themselves.

"Sumo, kholo. Mein tumse baat kare bina kahi nahi jaane vala." Shravan called out, his voice breaking a little.

A second later, the brown double doors to the room jerked open and holding the doors was Suman, staring at Shravan with an emotion in her eyes that Shravan had trouble deciphering.

"Kya problem hai tumhari? Kyu pareshaan kar rahe ho mujhe?" Suman called out heatedly.

Shravan stares at her a for a quarter of a second. "Taaki tumhari saari pareshaani door kar saku."

Glaring at him for a second and then looking at her family's faces she went inside the room knowing that the man who was her husband would follow her inside even if she didn't want him there or anywhere near her for that matter.

After a pause and encouragement from the Tiwari's Shravan waled inside the room, locking the door from the inside. The deafening click of the lock resonated in the otherwise silent room.

Shravan continued to stare at Suman and what he saw shook him to the bottom of his heart. He has never seen her so broken, the mischevious gleam in her eyes no longer there. It was as if she had given up on him, given up on them.

"Jaanta hu tumhe, aasani se nahi manogi tum. Aur main maane bhi nahi dunga. Agar tum maan gayi na toh main tumhe yaad dilaunga ki maine kitni galtiyaan ki hai. Bolunga Sumo chillao mujhpe, daanto mujhe lekin "

"Lekin kya, Shravan? Jab man kara bhaga diya, jab man aya mana liya. Tumne mujhe samajh kya rakha hai?" Suman interrupted him, frustration seeping through her words.

Shravan gulped the knot that had formed in his throat. His heart was heavy, his throat hurt and tears were burning behind his eyes but he steeled himself to continue.

"Sumo," he called out through the hurt. "Tum toh jaanti ho, meri bachpan se problem hai mein nahi samjh pata tumhe aur shayaad aage jake, kabhi-kabhi, main na samajh pau. Lekin ek baat main acche se samajh gaya hu. Mein tumse bahut pyaar karta hu." Shravan ended passionately.

Suman turned around to look at Shravan, shocked by his admission. A hope that had risen in Shravan quickly crashed when he saw Suman's face. There was a flicker of something in her eyes but it was gone before he could make sense of it.

The lack of emotions on her face and the lifeless look in her eyes was making Shravan uneasy. The dread that had been in his stomach since the last two days, since he had told her to leave him, was growing with each passing moment he was speaking.

A thought whispered in Shravan's mind that shook him to the core. Maybe you broke her beyond repair. The once formidable Suman Tiwari is now a shell of her past self.

He wanted to get through it her. He wanted to reach to her core to pull her out from the place she had retreated to after the happenings of the past few months and from where she refused to leave, so he continued to speak to her.

"Main jaanta hu maine bahut takleef di hai tumhe, bahut dard. Lekin ab? Ab voh waqt khatam ho gaya. Ab badalne ka waqt hai.
Come on yaar. Bahut chahata hu main tumhe aur ab se nahi, bachpan se. Tum toh jaanti ho na, sirf tum rahi ho meri life mein, jisse main baat karne ke liye tadapta tha, apna dard batne ke liye, apni khushiyan bataane ke liye tadapta that. Tum chali gayi thi na, toh bahut akela ho gaya tha main. Aur aaj tum chali gayi toh main zindagi bhar ke liye akela ho jaunga." Shravan ended on a pained whispers, his eyes shining with unshed tears.

Shravan took another deep breath and confessed to the one truth that he had kept hidden within him for the last 11 years. "Aa jao na Sumo. Please. I really love you. I love you so so much and I need you."

"Main jaanta hu in sab mein meri tumse kahin badi galti hai, usse kahin zayada dard jhela hai tumhe. Lekin aaj, iss waqt main tumse ek vaada karta hu ki ab se voh waqt nahi ayega. Aane vale waqt mein koi dard nahi hoga, koi nafrat nahi hogi. Kabhi nahi.

"Sumo. Ek aakhri chance. Kya Sumo aapne Shravan pe ek aakhri baar trsut nahi kar sakti? Hmm? Maine dil toda hai na? Main jodunga. Dard diya hai na? Usse kahin zayada khushiyan dunga. Nafrat ki ha na? Usse kahin zayada pyaar karunga. Bas ek baar vapas aa jao. Ek akhri chance de do. It na toh chalta hai na? Dosti mein, pyar mein?"

A quiet hush had fallen in the room. It was the kind of silence that rang in your ears and made you uncomfortable. The kind of silence that people ran away from. This was the silence before the storm, the silence before everything came crumbling down and that is what happened.

With one word, Shravan's entire world came crashing down. His stomach dropped and everything seemed foreign suddenly.

"Nahi."

"What?" Shravan managed to whisper.

While he was speaking Suman had turned around, facing away from him once again. Unknown to Shravan, she wiped away the tears and quietly cleared her throat before reiterating her previous statement clearly. "Nahi."

"Haan pyaar mein second chance hote hai par pata hai pyaar mein kya nahi hota, Shravan?" Suman asked, bracing herself before turning to face Shravan. "Pyaar mein nafrat nahi hoti, zeher nahi hota, ek dusre ko nicha dikhana nahi hota."

"Ek katputli bana ke rakh diya hai mujhe. Jisse jaisa mann kara vaise nachaya. Samajh kya rakha hai muje? Khilona nahi hu main, meri bhi feelings hai par uska kya? Kuch nahi." Suman choked on her tears.

"Tumhara mann kara, bina kissi reason ke bina kissi explanantion ke, bhaga dete ho. Jab mann bhar jata hai toh manane chale aate ho. Kya mujhe koi haq nahi tha tumse kuch puchne ka? Ki Shravan tum aisa kyu kar rahe ho? Problem kya hai? Par nahi tumne joh than liya voh pathar ki lakeer, right? Tum hamesha mujhe bolte the na "Sumo mere emotions ka kya? Main kya chahta hu uska kya?" aaj main tumse puchti hu Shravan mere emotions, mere feelings, meri khwaihsho kya? Huh? Tumne bola humari dosti," Suman moved her hand between the two of them back and forth "khokli hai, one-sided hai aur yeh ki uss din ke baad humari dosti khatam."

Shravan could see the frustration oozing out in her body language but the lack of emotions, the lifelessness continued to be there in her eyes and that really scared him.

"Nanu ne bola Aditya se shaadi karo varna voh medication nahi lengay toh bina kuch soche samjhe haan bol diya, kyunki uss time pe Nanu ki jaan meri life thodi zayada important thi." At this confession Shravan's head snapped up, his eyes widening in disbelief.

"Haan. This was why I agreed to marry Aditya but as always tum apne conclusions pe aagaye. Jab meri shaadi tuti thi toh Nanu ne bola tum se shaadi karu, kyunki tumse accha ladka mujhe kahin nahi milega and you know what I might have even agreed with that statement. Toh like a civil person I spoke to you and we decided that we were not going to get married to each other, right? Right?" Suman stressed and Shravan nodded his head in agreement.

"Mamiji ne bola ki tumse shaadi karne ke liye haan bolu kyunki unhe Anuj ke pass jana tha. Maine decide kar liya tha ki tumse shaadi ke liye na bolungi lekin Mamiji ko America bhej ke hi rahungi chahe meri shaadi hogi ya nahi kyunki mujhe aise logo ko apne pass nahi rakhn ajo mere pass rehna hi nahi chahte. Jo mujhe zindangi bhar ek anath hi samjte aye hai, sirf ek bojh.
Par phir tumne kya kara? Mujhe biger bataye haan bol diya kyu? Kyunki Nanu ne tumhare Papa se guru dakshina mangi thi. Where was my decision in all of this?"

Suman paused to take a breath, to control the emotions that were piling within her every day becoming so heavy that it was becoming hard to breathe for her.

Shravan stared at her noticing every single movement she made, every jagged breath she took and he broke looking at her. It was becoming clear to him that while Suman had failed to be his friend when she was a child he, on the other hand, had failed her on many levels as a friend because even when Suman was rude to him as a kid in front of her "friends" she always knew what was bothering him without him uttering a word. Knew him from the inside out while he had barely managed to scratch the surface of his best friend.

Suman moved to sit at the foot of the bed, holding on to the bedpost, the wind chimes tinkling.

"Pata hai ek time tha jab main genuinely tumse shaadi karna chati thi." Suman had a faraway look in her eyes as she imagined what it would it have been like being Shravan's wife in other time and place and what she imagined was thousands of miles away from what she had now. That dream made her smile, albeit it was a small smile and looking at that smile, Shravan was able to take a breath that didn't hurt that much.

"Tum toh dawa karte the na ki tumse accha mujhe koi nahi jaanta aur nahi koi kabhi jaan payega, toh phir kya hua, Shravan?" Suman whispered brokenly, looking at him. "Kaise tumne mere baare mein voh sab maan liya jo logo ne tumhe bola? Jaise mere saath behave kara, jaise tumhare papa ne bola aur tumne mere character ko har baar question kara. Bina kissi baat ko puri tarah se samjhne ne mana kar diya "

"Sumo, nahi..." Shravan whispered, tears falling down his face as he moved to kneel in front of her but still kept his distance from her.

"Tumhe jaise duniya ne joh picture dikhayi mere baare mein vaise tumne maana. Humari 10saal puri dosti ko aise " Suman snapped her fingers " khatam kar di. Is dosti mein sirf tum nahi the, main bhi thi, toh tumhe koi haq nahi tha voh decision akele lene ka.
Mana bachpan mein I never fully appreciated you and what you were and I think, kahin na kahin, tumhare iss behaviour ka reason sirf tumahre parents nahi, main bhi hu. But you know what? Tumne uss 10 saal purani baat ko aapne dil se laga ke beth gaye ki uske aage tumhe aur kuch dikhayi diya aure jab maine tumhe dikhana chahe toh you retaliated. Uss incident ka jaise ek parda apni aakho ke samne dal diya and everyone was compared to it."

In the once again silent room, one could hear sniffling and laboured breathing and if you looked carefully enough you would see that it was Shravan, kneeling a few feet away from Suman as she made me see everything from her perspective.

Someone was right when they said that hindsight is always 20/20.

"Yaad hai 10 saal phele tumne mujhse ek promise kara that?" Suman asked suddenly, looking at Shravan.

Shravan looked up at her, his eyes red from the unshed tears, and nodded his head as he remembered the one thing he promised with all his might.

"Main tumhe kabhi girne nahi dunga." Shravan and Suman, both said at the time.

"Tumne itni buri tarah se giraya hai mujhe, Shravan." Suman said after a pause. "Aur sirf muje nahi, tumne apne aap ko bhi giraya hai. Tum voh insaan bante chale gaye jinse tumhe sabse zayada nafrat thi."

Shravan could only stare at the broken woman in front of him as his heart broke into pieces and in his broken state he managed to ask another question to her.

"Kya tum mujhe kabhi maaf kar paogi?" He asked softly.

Suman paused for a long time, going over the question and its answer again and again in her head to see if what she wanted was best for her. Not him, not them but her because it was time she loved and healed herself before thinking of loving someone else.

She got up from her perch on the bed and moved towards the open window and was startled to see that the last hues of the orange and pink sky before the sun dipped fully.

"Tum se jitni nafrat karti hu usse kahin zayada pyaar karti hu tumse " Shravan's head snapped up in wonder when she confessed her feelings but the dread still remained, lodged in the pit of his stomach because he knew, he just knew that he wasn't going to like whatever she said next. " toh haan maaf to sab kar dungi par jaise tum aaj tak kuch nahi bhule, vaise hi main bhi kuch nahi bhul paungi."

"I need time, Shravan," Suman said resolutely.

"How much time?" Shravan plead softly.

"I don't know," Suman answered honestly. "Mujhe nahi pata mujhe kitna time lagega to move on from everything. It could take me a month, it could take six months, it could take a year maybe more? I need to heal myself, Shravan, I need to forgive myself. This time I have to put myself first because I can't go like this anymore." Suman's voice broke at the end, showing the first sign of emotion.

"But what I want from you," she continued "just for this once, respect my wishes and don't come looking for me. Don't actively seek me. Haan agar kahin mil gaye toh tumhe ignore to nahi karungi, chahe jaise bhi humari shaadi hui ho at the end of the day you are my husband and I can't and won't ignore that. Well, that is unless and until you plan to give me a divorce. That makes everything different then." Suman said with a straight face even though her throat burned saying the word "divorce".

"Aur Pushkar aur Preeti toh hai Malhotra Mansion mein toh vahan aana-jaana lagaa rahega par agar tumhe lagta hai ki hum dono ke beech ek din mein sab kuch theek ho jayega, then you are wrong."

Suman turned around to face and found him now standing at the same spot that he was kneeling at before. "Can you give me that, Shravan?" Suman asked.

Shravan stared at her, gauging her face as if committing it to memory. What he saw in front of him was his best friend, or a version of her, who had been battered and bruised by her family, just like he had but what made the difference between the two of them was Suman never actively sought to hurt him, she never lashed out at him no matter what he did. She never made plans, like he had, to ruin her and most of all, she didn't go out of her way to tarnish his character or their friendship.

She took everything in until she couldn't and what he saw in front of him was a product of people's unwarranted expectations from her. Including his.

Broken.

Battered.

Bruised.

Yet somehow, she was still standing and fighting a battle and knowing her she would continue to do so.

Shravan nodded his head, letting her know that he would give her what she wants, even if he hated every single thing about her request.

"I'm sorry," Suman whispered before walking out the room, leaving Shravan rooted to his place.

Unknown to her she missed the words of a broken man dying a slow death, sorry for everything he had done and making a promise to himself that he would give her the distance she wants from him.

"I'm sorry too, Sumo," Shravan whispered dejectedly as the first tear slipped from his eye.

Hey!!
Beautiful OS!!
So well written and the feelings are perfectly portrayed.👏

Last episode's emotions are still unmatched.
Shravan's guilt and Sumo's pain 🥺

"The once formidable Suman Tiwari is now a shell of her past self"👍🏼

This reason for Nahi seems much more genuine and worthy.
Than one they showed in the show regarding Nirmala.🥱
She too needed to preserve herself from all the hurt.
Glad you came up with this.😃

Every word that she said is so heartfelt.💔
And Shravan's inner turmoil due to all she said is genuine.

"Someone was right when they said that hindsight is always 20/20"

Ahh!! The promise.

That's true ...that's the biggest difference between them.
Sumo never planned things to hurt him or to take revenge or to prove a point.
Instead she many a times tried to conceal his mistakes.❤️
She never told her family about anything that between them from the very start.

"She took everything in until she couldn't and what he saw in front of him was a product of people's unwarranted expectations from her. Including his."

Lovely Take.⭐️

These two people suffered the most because of unnecessary expectations.
One due to pinning them... the other due to fulfilling them.😒

Enjoyed reading.
Nice job done there.

Yes, they are! That one definitely goes in my Top 5 Episodes!

That seemed such a cop-out. Like dude, there are people out there who don't get along with their mom's but still have really good relationships with their female friends. You can't judge everybody with the same yardstick.

Yes! Yes! Yes! It always bugged me how Shravan just expected Suman to love him. Like why, dude? She's not obligated to love you just because you love her.

He always put her on some imaginary pedestal and when she wasn't what he thought of her to be, he got pissed. She, on the other hand, was suppressed a lot and the only time she could truly vent it all out was when she was at work.

Enjoyed reading.
Nice job done there.
Thank you so much, once again! 😳
