Actor Salman khan appeared before the sessions court judge MG Deshpande in Mumbai today and got the bailable warrant issued against him earlier, cancelled. The lawyers and court staff surrounded the actor who had earlier faced the 2002 hit-and-run trial in a court here. The few minutes that Salman was before the registrar in the court, many people struggled to get their pictures clicked with the star.

On the fourth floor of the sessions court building, Salman got the warrant that was issued at the beginning of the month cancelled. Salman was convicted by the Mumbai Sessions Court in 2015 for the hit-and-run case in which one person had died while four others were injured.

Salman had appealed to the Bombay High Court against his conviction and was eventually acquitted. However, when Maharashtra government appealed against his acquittal, Salman had to furnish surety of Rs 25,000. An accused is required to submit surety - a guarantee given by a person that the accused will fulfill the obligation or conditions set by the court.

Salman's manager Reshma had stood as his surety earlier but last year, the two parted ways. Owing to this, Salman had approached Supreme court seeking discharge of his earlier surety. The Supreme Court allowed this on February 23, 2018. The details for the new surety was to be submitted at the beginning of this month but around the same time, Salman was sent to a jail in Jodhpur following his conviction in the black buck poaching case.

The Mumbai Sessions Court, on not finding the surety in place, issued the bailable warrant which was later stayed after advocate Niranjan Mundargi, who represented Salman, explained the position. Salman was granted time til April 25 to complete the formalities.

Much before the deadline, Salman appeared in the court today and signed the documents. Salman's new surety in the case is his bodyguard Shera, an aide who has been by his side for ages now.
