Competitions are mostly created by teachers and not by students ...I still remember how my teacher used to scold and tease ...I guess those days ...Kumud kind of teachers were common..than the kinds like Shanthi teacher. 😆
I guess sometimes , these fears that are created at school kind of stays with in you ...
Most of my English teachers thought , I was hopeless ...I wont blame them because there were students in my class who used to excel in the subject...and in those days reading romance especially Mills and boons were a taboo...but that didn't stop me from reading them...so till I graduated I used to borrow books from libraries...once I started earning , I used to buy 1 or 2 Mills and boons every month..and I did that for so many years...I guess its only couple of years back I gave all those to a library near my parents house...hoping that it would help other ppl like me...
As I read these books , I felt the need to write ..a need to weave my own thoughts and imaginations into stories...slowly got into writing...but never talked abt that part of me to anyone...till I wrote my first OS here in this forum.
I quite resonate your thoughts. Those days teachers were like Kumud.(My blood boils when I see her taunting Naina) Yesterday's episode just reminded me of one teacher in my school who used to be extremely partial and never gave a chance to me in class to read. Even when I lifted hands to answer, she ignored me. It was as if she had a personal grudge against me. And she was my English teacher and I hated her class and the subject. However I loved reading books since childhood and that motivated me to take up learning the language on my own. I even write blogs, not that great at writing, but definitely doing fine.
The point is yes, teachers in those times created unncessary competition between students and had their own favourites. I suppose the situation has changed now. Hope today's kids get more Shanti like teachers who understand you and guide you.
