Hi, wrothe this because personally i do not want to see Bani grovel at Jai's feet. I want him to realise what he lost. I am also tired of the morbid. no backbone Bani, and the arrogant sense less Jai. My FF is going to be very different, not sure if it will be enjoyed. Had to play around with ages here and there. If no response I will discountinue.
It has been 17 painful years. Jai Walia was 47 years old. He reflected on his life. Married Bani Dixit when he was 30, lost 3 children and had 2 surviving children that did not want anything to do with him. He looked at the family portraits and felt as if his soul had left him. Not one of them was of Veer, Ganga or Bani. It was as though they never existed. Amongst all his nephews, their wives and their children, it was only Jai's family that was not part of the display. His heart ached. Where were they? Are they OK? Is Ganga alright? Have they all forgiven him. But the burning question was what of Bani. Has she moved on in life? Did she think of him?
He confined himself once again in the sanctuary of his study. Where had it gone all wrong he asked himself. Ganga and Veer were almost teenagers now. It saddened him to know that he would not even recognise his own children if they passed him on the street. Most of all he wondered what had become of Bani. Bani, that was all he could call her these days, not "my Bani" or my wife Bani. Just Bani. After all he was the one that had reduced her status from his to a stranger.
Bani stood on the beach, contemplating the same things that Jai was thinking. How he had changed her destiny irrevocably.
5 years ago WM
Jai and Bani had been told that Ganga needed a sibling in order to save her life. Meera had suggested that Bani and Jai get together and create another child to save her. But when Jai had protected Meera by calling her his wife, it had broken the last flicker of hope that she and Jai could ever be together again. Despite her legal status as his wife he had chosen Meera to be concerned about. Somewhere amongst all the discussion she had stopped listening. Her life had just ended. In one instant she realised that Jai had changed his loyalties. Who could blame him she questioned. After all it was her doing as much as his that they found themselves destroying each other.
Still the realisation pained her. As she stood up to leave after he had uttered those words Jai was confused. How could she walk out knowing that they were discussing their child's life. But it was Adi's look that told him all. There amongst his family whom Jai doted on, he once again humiliated her. He made it quite clear that Bani had no place or importance in his life any longer. To him she was the mother of his child that's all.
Bani had walked out in a daze. Depending on her survival instincts she did something that she never thought she would ever do. She went to Pia. Pia her own sister who had deceived her, and destroyed her life. She was seeking that same sister for her child's life. Seeing the condition Pia was in, Bani told a shocked Pushkar the reason she was at his doorstep. The little respect that he had for Jai Walia evaporated with Bani's heart wrenching cries.
The following morning Bani and Pushkar took Veer to the hospital, to be tested. Veer was explained in detail as to why they were doing this and was astonished when he said that he would do anything to help his sister.
Bani's happiness and relief was boundless. Veer was a perfect match. It was amazing how Veer had taken to Ganga. They had spent the most part talking and getting to know each other.
One realising that her father was every bit the Khadoos that she called him and the other realising that he had a father that did not care nor enquire about his existence.
Jai Walia looked in horror as Adi explained to him why he was so upset. He swore to Adi that it was not his intention. But Bani too had moved on. And it was at this point that Adi had had enough. By the time Jai had heard the full and finally true story, it was too late. In his heart he knew that Bani was totally shattered. He knew that irrespective of what he did and said she loved him with all her heart. Many a time he questioned his own behaviour towards her, but it was his pride that always won in the end.
He had to find her. He had to tell her that this was a huge misunderstanding. He did love her, but he was unsure of what rights he had over her. Reaching the hospital, he ran up to Ganga's room. The room was empty. Panic set in and he ran to the nearest nurse. Where is Ganga, he demanded.
Relax, Mr Walia. Ganga is having her treatment, it would be over soon.
What treatment?
Look Mr Walia please go and take a seat, her mom is in there waiting too, she shot back, fed up by his bullying attitude.
Bani did not acknowledge Jai when he walked in. in fact she had deliberately turned the other way. Jai was hurt.
Bani, what is happening to Ganga, what treatment is she having?
Mr Walia, she said coldly. Did you not hear? Ganga needed bone marrow, to get her through this.
Yes I know, he countered. But we were discussing this Bani. When you left suddenly, I was……….
What Mr Walia? You were what. You were not discussing my child Mr Walia. The thought of you and I creating another life appalled you. You were not thinking about Ganga you were concerned about Meera. I will never take her place Mr Walia. You made that absolutely clear yesterday. I know that the thought of me disgusts you. After all I am a kept woman aren't I, she said fighting back the tears.
Bani, please it was not like that. I swear?
You swear! On what? Our child. our relationship?
Bani we can discuss this later, but please we need to think about Ganga right now.
I am thinking about Ganga, she hissed.
Just then the Dr walked in.
Well Bani, she is very tired which is quite normal. I have given both of them a little sedative so that they could rest a bit. I will check on them later. With that said he left.
Bani what the hell is going on? Demanded Jai.
Who is "they"? he asked..
Don't worry Mr Walia we don't need to procreate. Tell Meera that there is nothing to worry about. You are all hers.
You see Ganga needed a sibling's marrow and that is what she got. You are free. Go back to you Meera and your doting perfect family. You are not needed any more. She jeered.
What nonsense are you talking Bani. What sibling? My God Bani did you have a kid with that lover of yours?
The slap reverberated around the room. Jai was shocked. Never had he seen Bani this angry before. Her beautiful eyes flashed. Tears were threatening to fall. Jai looked at her unbelievingly. Did she just slap him?
No Mr Walia, she screamed. My Ganga was not saved by my lover's child. in fact she was saved by your lover's child, she hissed.
My lover's child, he growled. What new game is this Bani.
Not a game Mr Walia, reality. How selective is your memory isn't it. You can remember every tiny detail of my shortfalls, your hurt your pain. It is always about you isn't it?
My child was saved by her sibling Jai. Veer. Do you remember him at all. Or is he also a thorn in your perfectly made up life?
Jai was stunned into silence.
He had waited for years to hear her say his name, and when she did it was to break all ties with him.
