Why did she do a TV show romancing unknown names that too for 2 years?

Many say cause she needed money, but it was produced by Boney so it isn't like she was getting paid by someone else.

Also, this is after the birth of her daughter, yet she shot for it at a stretch whereas she could return to movies if money was he issue.

Anybody knows? Many even say it was a flop. Was it?

How many movies were being made with 40+ actresses in the lead 15 years ago? None.

If they had a role, it would be the mother, sister kind of character roles only. So it was better for her to do a titular role in a serial that revolves around her, even if it was on TV.

Besides, at that point, a lot of actors started hitting TV since TV had become the new cool. SAHARA came in with a lot of money and offered shows to movie stars. That's why I guess she took it up.

I guess ponymo said it all.

But i'd also like to add, Malini Iyer was not a flop.. it was a hit show in terms of ratings & her character also became pretty popular back then.

Boney from his own big mouth said that Sri did the show to repay his debts. She didn't want to do it but did it for him. She has never worked the long hours of television before but still did it for him and took care of the girls. She didn't do it because she wanted to, she did it because she had to.

Back then, lots of BW actors and actresses were doing Sahara One shows. There was another show around the same time called Karishma which had Karishma Kapoor and Arbaaz Khan in it. Raveena Tandon did a show called Saheb Biwi Ghulam at that time on Sahara and Hema Malini also did a show called Kamini Damini on the same channel.

As ponymo said, there were never titular roles written for married women above 40. We didn't have films like English Vinglish or roles like Aishwariya in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil back then. Television was in vogue and paid the bills.

Other actresses like Urmila settled with judging dance reality shows.

Juhi Chawla was still doing good in her 40s, few independent movies but good roles.

In which big budget films Juhi acted as a lead heroine in her 40's? One 2 Ka 4 was her last movie where she played a glamorous heroine opposite of SRK that released in 2001 and after that, she mostly played supporting roles as a senior actress, in Ek Rishtaa, she played Akshay Kumar's elder sister, in Paheli, she played SRK's chachi, in Dosti, she played a doctor, in the multistarrer movie Salaam-e-Ishq, she played Anil Kapoor's love interest, other than that, she worked on some low budget movies as a lead actress but I don't think those movies paid Juhi lot of money, so it's better to do TV serials as a lead actress rather than doing supporting roles on movies but as some people said that Sridevi only worked on that serial to save Boney from being bankrupt, if he casted some other actress on it, then he would've have to pay them money but that money was saved since he casted his own wifey on it.
