controversy for the longest time. The movie
starring Shahid Kapoor, Deepika Padukone
and Ranveer Singh is set to release on
January 24, 2018, at 7 PM. Padmaavat is
being helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
Over four states including Madhya Pradesh,
Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh had
banned the movie but after the producers
challenged their ban at the Supreme Court,
the apex court ruled the case in Padmaavat's
favour thereby ordering the states to screen
the movie whilst ensuring there is no law
and order situation.
Despite this, the Rajasthan and Madhya
Pradesh government requested the apex
court to reconsider the decision. However,
coming hard on the state government,
Supreme Court has asked the states to abide
by their decision and said, "It's an order,
better abide by it. You (states) can advise
people not to watch the movie.
"We passed an order and our orders
required to be complied by all," the Chief
Justice of India Dipak Misra said.
"People can't come and say law and order
problems, ban the movie. Let us not come to
a state where the exhibition of a movie,
despite certified by the censor board, is
crippled," he said.
Following this decision, the states are left
with no other legal remedies to call for a
ban on the movie.
Supreme Court even rapped the Karni Sena
who was the third petitioner in the case.
