Sonam Kapoor will be next seen in the film PadMan. The actress is busy promoting the film nowadays. Directed by R Balki, PadMan also stars Akshay Kumar and Radhika Apte.
PadMan is inspired by the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, a small town entrepreneur from Tamil Nadu who invented low-cost sanitary napkins to generate awareness in the rural area.
Today, Sonam turned a PadWoman and was snapped distributing sanitary pads to school girls. She was accompanied by director R Balki, who also distributed sanitary pads to these girls.
Sonam looked pretty in a zari cord tie up kurta set.
Check out the pictures below:
During a media interaction earlier, Sonam was asked about the time when she got periods for the first time. She stated, "I was 15 when I got my periods and all my friends had got that way before me. I was very upset that I had not got it. So when I actually got it I was very relieved because I kept telling my parents there is something wrong with me as I did not get my periods. So, I was very very happy."
PadMan will hit the silver screen on February 9, 2018.
In an interview recently, the Neerja actress said that screen timing doesn't matter to her and what she looks at while doing a film is the story and the character she is offered. Sonam had said, "It is the combination of the story and my character; screen timing does not matter to me, honestly. One does not have to be in every single frame of the film to create an impact of the character. If my part is well-crafted, even with three scenes, my character can make a major impact on the story. And that's what matters."

Sanitary napkins have dioxins, BPA and are made of celulose gels. I hope Sonam and Akshay are not thinking themselves as saviours of Indian girls by their endeavours. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-mercola/feminine-hygiene-products_b_3359581.html

Loosely translated it says "Oh brother, such gestures come to mind only when a movie has to be promoted, selfish people"

Thanks 👍🏼

To answer to RTH, Sonam is already heavily involved in charities regarding women as well as kids. So no such gestures aren't new for her.

Futhermore, she herself didn't know the plight of some women regarding the issue of not having the means to offer clean way to protect themselves during their periods which is natural imo as it's not something people of her entourage are victims of and it wasn't an issue which had been raised beforehand.

The importance of this movie is to raise awareness. By being involved with associations and doing promotional events in this regard, they are raising awareness toward this topic too.

Who is to say Sonam don't use sanitary napkins or tampons ? Most of the stuff being sold in supermarkets have something toxic in it anyways.

You may have the means to buy bio napkins but not everyone does and not everyone feels confortable using cups too.

But eh, it may be that you're involved in charities regarding the same and not only passing judgement while not doing anything... Who knows.

BPA and other plastic compounds found in sanitary napkins are not necessarily harmful by touch. It is usually ingestion that causes problems.

While it is still harmful to the environment, it is extremely valuable for menstrual health. It keeps women clean and dry. It reduces the risk of infection due to moisture. It also allows women to continue resuming day to day activity like working or going to school.

Even Padman's pads are not organic. They use pressed wood pulp cellulose. Organic cotton pads are available. They are a lot more expensive to manufacture. In the west, they are a niche item. It is infeasible for Indians to adapt to it due to costs. Maybe in the future.

Menstrual cups are the best bet cost and hygiene wise, but because of the risk of tearing the hymen - young girls and unmarried women in many parts of India will not adapt to it. At least not for years to come.
