A telegite, two tamilians, a bengali and a north Indian on the table, out of which three are women who have directed films that has ranged from all time blockbusters to critically acclaimed AND commercially successful at the same time, and all except one saying stories of small towns.
This is what inclusivity looks like right now in Bollywood and how beautiful it is! We've finally managed to go past the same old mehendi-engagement-sangeet-shaadi-honeymoon song and dance crap Bollywood was known to. While this year has been disastrous for the industry, I think 2017 will be remembered as the year of the underdogs and those underdogs are not the small, less hyped films but the Indian audience who have voiced their opinion that they need and want MUCH more than the standard bollywood K-Jo flick and they are there to make a film like Bahubali and Lipstick Under My Burkha hits!
Loved the roundtable discussion. The reason why I love Masand for doing the director's roundtable is that you often end up liking the person whose film you might not have liked. I don't like Rajamouli's style of filmmaking much but his opinions and thoughts in this discussion made me a fan of his! Same was the case sometime ago with Kabir Khan too. I somehow think these guys who make massy films are actually more intellectual and less pretentious.
