Dragon ji I second you. Neil was a unique ML in the fact that the story since the leap was mostly said from his POV. This was his Ek Tarafa Safar of love. He started this journey much before Avni. Unlike what the Rat said, the man Avni married to achieve her goal of revenge on Daya WAS in love with her. Neil fell in love with Ananya first, long before he knew who Avni even was.
Through the journey of knowing Ananya he also met Avni. By the time they got married he had started to develop feelings for the "Avni" in Ananya who had lived through trauma and injustice. After the marriage, he was determined to help her get justice. He pretended that was all he wanted, but the truth was, he also wanted her! That is why when their mission of getting Daya arrested ended, he was deeply hurt by the thought that now she wanted out of this relationship. But true to his word he said she was free to leave. He was in pain, but he covered it up and set her free. But she didn't leave. In fact, she helped his aunt and cousin instead and returned his favor. She was there for him like he was there for her, and his regard for her increased, his love only deepened. But it took Neil months to admit that he was in love and he didn't want to let her go.
If we think about it, for a guy like Neil for whom duty comes before ALL, to actually contemplate having feelings for someone he suspected to be a criminal, was probably a moral dilemma. We saw him deny and fight his feelings all the way till he realized Ananya was Avni and a victim more than a criminal. Yes, she was ready to take Law into her hands and THAT is where Neil came in and stopped her. As he says in the Promo "I thought my love was enough to change you. Enough to change your nature. But I was wrong!"
Neela got Avni married to Neil mostly coz she knew Avni needed a Neil in her life. She needed a man who could control that raging anger inside of her. Someone who was strong, yet gentle enough to handle Ananya & Avni together. That man was Neil. In every test of their relationship, Neil proved Neela's faith in him was not misplaced. He proved he WAS that man. The man that Avni needed. If indeed Neil breaks his marriage then he breaks that promise. But we did see that he fears the return of that vengeful and out of control Ananya. He said it a few times in the past 2 weeks. He saw Avni lose control when she pushed Juhi and she said she would do it again.
Now again the lie detector. This was the old ACP Neil who was in pursuit of Ananya Verma. Who connected her to the Polygraph to get the answers he needed coz he knew if given a choice Ananya has and WILL lie to him. The same applied here. He knew Avni was in Ananya mode and she is hiding something. He noticed that Avni was not thrilled and stalled when he said Let's go home. Ali gave her an out by suggesting she pick up cupcakes. Right away Neil realized something was going on.
I am willing to let this premise play out. But I feel our show is also going down cliched paths after the Choohi track was dragged too much by this new CV! This woman and her fave has been a Panoti for this show. Most of the times tracks went on for 3 weeks max on NK. This track is 4 months now and still no real end in sight. We dont even know what is happening with Rat's death. Fake or real etc? We just don't know right now. Turning Choohi totally negative was also a disappointment. This track could have gone so many ways. Even if she lied about Mishti it could have been handled better instead of her trying to marry Neil. She was never shown as having such an agenda at the start and turning her Evil was a total Cliche! If someone better had played Juhi maybe they may have kept her positive or just grey so she can be redeemed. But Poonam is pretty bad and Vamp is all she can pull off and that too a bad one. So we are now saddled with what we have.
I am waiting to see what next for AvNeil. But my personal opinion is Keteki and Poonam both need to be fired, so we can get our show back. I don't want to see Gul/ Surabh Tiwari type MCP Male lead on this show. If they turn Neil into one of those useless guys I will really be mighty pissed off. I love Neil and I want to keep loving him!
