Please imagine Fitoor song ' Tere Liye' where I have written it in blue, purely from Omkara's perspective , I have switched some lyrics around, but they are all from Omkara's mind...
AAnkhon ki Gustakhiyaan - Season IV - The Wedding
Part 3
Omkara woke up feeling like he was on top of the world despite having suffered injuries the previous day. Today was his engagement with his chiraiyaa, his Ri. Just thinking about her being with him, always, as she had promised, made him happy. She was in the shower right now. He was feeling an energy today that he never felt before, he felt ready, he felt free, which was hard to understand, because he was getting engaged, he was getting bound to a person, why did he feel so free? So elated? He just couldn't describe this emotion. He wasn't afraid of falling any more, he wasn't afraid of getting hurt, he even wasn't afraid of ever being alone, his greatest fear, because from now on he never could, with her by his side. He smiled to himself, what love does to people is unimaginable.
Him, Omkara Singh Oberoi, the most non-committal person on the planet who didn't believe in marriage, couldn't absolutely wait for being tied to one person for the rest of his life!
Are you even listening to yourself Omkara?' the devil in him chided.
Hmmm. So what? I love her' said the angel lover.
'Uggh, you are not even making sense, what has that got to do with engagement, you have become impossible Omkara' the devil vanished thereafter, knowing his voice was redundant today and every other day now...
And the same thoughts echoed in Shivaay's and Rudra's heads, when they came to see him in the morning to enquire after his health. He didn't even remember his wounds! They had started believing that Omkara was finally healing from the inside, he was finally ready to let go of his pain, that had been his only companion for all those years, he had to make room for a new companion, his Gauri.
Wounds, what wounds, these are just physical injuries, the wounds are gone forever! Omkara grinned.
Omkara is a gone case, ShivRu thought, and weren't they happy about that! Just yesterday, they were worried about his injuries and him being wounded for his engagement party, but today he looked like he was re-born. Was Gauri a magician? Perhaps she was. They were happy for their brother and for Gauri, who they had come to love as a sister, in different ways. They decided to not bring up yesterday's occurrence at all today, to make this day special for RiKara. And if they mention what happened yesterday, that will ruin it. Accordingly, all family members were instructed like-wise.
Omkara took out her white saaree from the wardrobe, the one he had gifted her, the day he broke her heart, accused her for things he abhorred to even think about now. He laid it out on the bed, he knew she would wear it, she would know, that he wants her to. He wanted to surprise her, should I do it at the engagement ceremony? He thought, but Omkara was always a private person, and what happened between him and his chiraiyya, stayed between them, it was nobody else's business. He then left the room, hatching a plan. Gauri came out of the shower in her robe and saw Omkara missing, but her white saaree was laid out on the bed. She smiled and put it on.
He was in his outdoor studio, lost in his thoughts, recalling the last time he put a ring on her finger. She was wearing a red ensemble, looking like a queen, when she descended down the stairs , smiling at him, when he gave her a cold shoulder and accused her of being greedy.' Main chodunga nahin tumhe' he had told her then as a threat. Those words echoed in his head now.
He laughed at the irony of it all, now, he never wanted to leave her, he never wanted her to leave him, ever, even for a second in her thoughts. The very thought of losing her sent shivers down his spine. He was missing her already, and this made him anxious. No one was allowed in his studio when he was there, that place was for his me' time, but today he wanted to be with her, now.
He picked up the intercom and asked a servant, Gauri m'am ko mere studio mein aane ko kaho'
She walked in by the pool, looking like an angel, in plain white saaree, long ear rings and colourful chappals. He asked her to come to him, with his eyes; they spoke with each other that way a lot.
She kissed his cheek and caressed his hair, asking him with her eyes, how was he feeling, his wounds?
Mere har marz ki tu hi dawa hain, Hui hain jo kubul woh dua hain tu
He took her hands in his and kissed them both, looking at her lovingly. She looked at him, half blushing, half with love.
Maine pucha yeh dil se, main kyun ho jahan main, Ek dhadkan boli Tere liye
He then bent a little, leaned in and kissed her cheek, pushing her hair to one side with one hand, just like he had once done it before to her, in the same saree, but only to utter heart-breaking words to her. He wanted to re-create the moment he accused her of cheating on him, but only to replace it with this one... this moment they were just sharing ...
Maine yadeen tarashi, aur khwab banadi, nayi duniya basadi Tere liye
He turned her around like he did the other day, her back was touching his front now, he traced her hand from shoulder to elbow, leaning into her neck, kissing her neck. She had goose-bumps.
Jo main kehta hoon, jo suntan hoon, jo sehta hoon Tere liye
He turned her again, facing her, caressed her cheek, her lips with his fingers, teasing her and then kissed her passionately...
Main khoya sa, ek lamha hoon, bas is pal hoon - Tere liye
Her left hand was in his right hand, he had weaved a ring on his finger with a white silk thread, which he then weaved onto her finger and transferred over to her on her left hand.
Main awara baadal hoon, bas is pal hoon - Tere liye
She was stunned. What had he just done? She looked at him, trying to understand, but there was nothing to understand, only feel. Feel his love, his promise which he had just made to her. A promise of life-long togetherness, like this woven thread around her finger and his finger, inter-twined between the two fingers. A tear trickled down her cheek at the depth of emotion she was feeling. That's not what he wanted her crying, so he caressed her exposed stomach with his other hand, sending shock waves down her body, she pushed him and he stumbled a little...
Main girta hoon, sambhalta hoon, phir chalta hoon Tere liye
...only for her to cradle him in her arms again. They were in bliss. It was done. They had formally sworn themselves to each other before the pool, the walls, the water, the air and ether.
And now they can exchange rings before the family, make them happy too. They spent half the afternoon, by the pool in Omkara's studio, Ri sitting with her legs dangling in the water, and Kara lying down with his head in her lap, that was his favourite place now in the whole wide world. No one came to disturb them.
For the evening, Oberoi Mansion was decorated beautifully. It was Omkara and Gauri's engagement ceremony. It was going to be a family affair only, with no outsiders and no media invited. Gauri's mom had stayed back after the welcome party to attend the engagement as it was just after two days. She was worried about Omkara's wounds and came to speak with him when he was in the kitchen, all dressed up for the ceremony.
Dammadji, aap theek hain na' she asked out of concern.
Main theek hoon Ma. Main aapse Gauri ki koi bachpan ki photo mangna chata tha' Omkara changed the topic.
Woh, main bhi aapse kuch kehna chahti hoon, mangni se pehle' she looked worried.
Omkara held her hand, made her sit, kneeled down beside her,' kahiye'.
Woh, Gauri meri beti nahin hain. she was scared.
Kya. Toh kiski beti hain?' he was shocked
Woh, meri hi beti hain, par maine usse janam nahin diya. Gauri ko toh kuch yaad bhi nahin hain. Bahut choti thi woh jab hum usse anaath ashram se laye the. Bas ek tasveer thi uske paas, shayad apni badi behen ke saath, ek wahi hain mere pass Gauri ke bachpan ki'. She cried.
Omkara was stunned out of wits. His Gauri, an orphan! That little chirayya, who went about making friends and relations helter skelter, that titli, who no one could resist because of her selfless nature and good character, has grown up all alone in an orphanage for some time? And he was complaining about a bad childhood having a family full of people. He just couldn't fathom how much she must have suffered and this was not even half of it.
Gauri's mom broke his reverie,' Beta, main jaanti hoon aapko in baton se koi pharak nahin padta, aap Gauri se itna pyaar jo karte hain, par maine aapko bata dena theek samjha. Dus saal ki thi jab uske papa, mere pati, chal base. Tab se Gauri ne ghar sambhala hain, main bimar rehti thi, aur uske chacha-chachi usko maarne ke alawa kuch nahin karte the. Kaali Thakur se bhi Gauri ka sauda unhone hi kiya tha. Meri bitiya, dukan chalati thi, mataji ki chunri bech ke, wahi dekha tha Kaali Thakur ne usse. Jab usne Kaali ko na keh diya toh Kaali ne aise uska sauda kiya. Ghar aake zanjeer mein bandh ke utha ke le gaya tha, mere saamne, aur main kuch na kar saki?'
She was sobbing. Gauri koh dukh ke alawa kuch nahin de payi main. Lekin aap usse bahut khush rakhenge, main jaanti hoon. Uske Shankarji ne bheja hain aapko usske liye.' She put her hand on his head and walked away crying.
He couldn't console her, because he couldn't console himself. His head was bent. He was crying. He didn't want Gauri's mom to find out. His heart was sad, he felt a pain, a stab in his heart, listening about Gauri's childhood, he wasn't listening, he felt it. The loneliness, the suffering, the struggle, he felt it all.
He was shocked. He had to see her, his Ri. He was choking without her; he couldn't take the pain anymore. His heart was breaking. For her.
She was in their room, getting ready for the evening, looking stunning in a baby pink ensemble. She had just worn the dress, had no jewellery or makeup on. He saw her, like a child, whose shoulders had taken way too much weight until now, of responsibilities, of pain and humiliation. He will take it all away. He will make her forget it. He will make her so happy that she will never ever remember any of that in her life. She smiled at him, he rushed in and took her in an embrace, making another promise to himself, he will never ever hurt her, never, he has to do that for himself, he cannot see her hurt, he will choke if he sees her hurt again, he will die.
He was wiping his tears when Rudy monster appeared on the door, O, yeh jhappi shappi baad mein dena, Chul Bhabhi ko tayyar hone do, engagement ka time ho gaya hain'.
To lighten the mood, he ran after Rudy, 'Rudy tu ruk, abhi batata hoon'
The engagement was a small but pompous family affair; the Oberois were dressed to the tee in their signature style. The house was decorated with lights, chandeliers, drapes and what not, everything matching, creating an ambience of joy.
She came down the stairs accompanied by Anika. He waited for her underneath the stairs, hand outstretched.
She looked ethereal; there was only reverence in his eyes. He took her hand in his, smiled at her, took her waist and they walked together to the dias. She looked happy, very happy; it was filtering through her eyes. He took the ring in his hand, she put her hand out, she still had the white silk thread he had made her wear this afternoon, he covered it with this diamond ring, it fit above the thread cocooning and protecting it, a promise of everlasting love. She made him wear the ring on his white silk thread. They were looking at each other, this time, with mischief. His heart and soul were reserved, in all lives to come, for her.
There was a huge applause, from everyone witnessing this beautiful moment, Daadi blessed the two kids, tej and Jhanvi were next, Shakti and Pinky, and then Shivaay and Anika congratulated them with hugs and Rudy in his signature style, whispered to his bro ' Kaam pe lag jao O, kab se Chota O maang raha hoon, ab toh sagai bhi ho gayi'.
Omkara hit him on the head, Shut up Rudy' hoping Ri didn't hear it, when Gauri, who had heard it, wanted to disappear in thin air, she was already red like a tomato. There was one more thing left to do, which Omkara had specially requested from his Daadi.
They walked to the temple, from where the Kulpatri was taken out and Omkara held Gauri's hand retracing their names together in golden ink, this time never to be deleted, this time with complete acceptance and gratitude for having found each other.
