How did it present either as "weak"?
Even if Lakshmi or Saraswati attacked Tarakasura (which Lakshmi did), neither would have been able to kill him. Furthermore, they weren't grievously injured or damaged by his attack. Shiva himself stated Mahakali existed outside time -- only she was capable of circumventing Tarakasura's armour.

I can understand how that scene may be misconstrued, but if they truly were weak they wouldn't have engaged Shumbh and Nishumbh. They wouldn't have been able to match their strength.

Yup ! It was totally wrong and absurd .
Hope to God that we won't get to see such non-sense anymore .
