I just noticed that kingsman: the golden circle is coming out soon. Its a sequel to the spy thriller kingsman the secret service.. possibly one of my most favorite spy thriller movies of all time.

this reminded me that how Bollywood has failed to cash in in this genre.. when Hollywood always had the mission impossibles, james bond and so many other great movies.

bw did try and agent vinood was one of those attempts. you can say maybe ek tha tiger but then again that went totally the opposite direction at the end.

so the question is

why bw fails at this genre despite so many good actors that can do justice to these type of movies?

I just remember baby was a good attempt but it didn't do as good as I hoped it will do in box office.. still one of my favorite movies of akashy.

What was up with the love crap that they had at the end?

spy thrillers put country and law and order first... not run shameless after some girl or with a girl!!

james bond had ladies.. left and right.. he didn't forget his duty for them.. lol

Because spying, in the form that has been presented in Hollywood movies, is a Western trend.
Culture dictates what works and doesn't. Precisely why thrillers in general doesn't work in India as opposed to Korea, Europe, or Hollywood.

There have been quite a few spy thrillers in Bollywood.
If anything Sci fi is lacking.

It's sad... I wish Byomkesh Bakshi was a success. It was a good movie on all levels..

We could've had many BB series like Bond series.. 😔

There were many spies in our history. I remember watching this program on Epic Channel "Adrishya", about various Indian spies like Azeez-un-nisa, Ajit Doval, Bahirji Naik, etc... BW should make movies on such spies. There are many stories about real-life Indian spies in our history - from the times of Chandragupta Maurya to colonial times to the present day.

I won't blame it on the lack of a cultural trend. BW can take inspiration from so many Indian spy stories in Pak, theories, and intrigue around RAW etc.

For example:

Problem is they just have to make everything comical with stupid BW drama, weak plot and love angles. 😕

Not only spy movies, there's no proper adventure movie in bw.
They ruin it by adding love story or focusing on one character only or making it too kiddish or too serious.
ZNMD, love story of a spy were good to some extent.
