Disclaimer; this is NOT a bashing post. This is just a mere opinion. If you don't agree with me, by all means, go ahead and reply - just please make sure its a healthy debate, and not a bashing fest. If you want to bash, go right ahead as well, because I probably just won't reply. Apologies if sentiments are hurt on this post; that is genuinely not my intention.
Contrary to popular belief, I do like Omkara and Gauri. I'm just really, really confused about where their track is going right now. To be fair, (as the TRPs reflect right now) none of the three couples really have an distinction or any particular direction, right now. Shivaay and Annika have been continuing with an immature farce of a wedding that has honestly been stretched too long, and RuVya have the beginnings of a companionship forming; but the fact that he works undercover with her now is just too out of character for both. These two couples have been mused over multiple times, but I feel like somewhere in the mix, the current RiKara storyline has no development, nor any real meaning.
Please don't start the SS debate here, everyone, because in its entirety, I think that its true that you don't need thirty minutes per episode to leave a lasting impression on an audience. Even a two minute scene, written with meaning and depth can do miracles; and no, good acting does not save drastically written tracks.
Where are they going right now?
ShivIka are building trust, RuVya are developing a friendship - but where does that put RiKara? His misunderstanding about her was sorted and dealt with in one episode. That was a huge problem in their relationship right now. They may be getting screen time and beautifully acted and shot scenes, but that doesn't really do much to help their story.
The three brothers had their respective battles to fight from the very beginning; Shivaay is about to come full circle with his NKK prejudice. Rudra, who judged everything by appearance (which is essentially one sign of Peter Pan Syndrome, which the guy definitely has!) is maturing, and looking below the surface. Om's battle was to stop looking at the world in black and white - to understand that its okay to blur lines, and lie sometimes.
I'm sorry, but I genuinely think that his fight has not been addressed yet. Omkara needs a woman in his life that will show him that the world in not divided into two equal halves, and that his idealism is only going to hurt him in the future. In theory, Gauri should help him do that.
I've had this debate with people on the forum before, but I stand by my word and repeat, Gauri as a character, confuses me. She's written all over the place. However, judging by the knowledge that Gauri fans know her much better than I do, I will take their word on this one. She's supposedly 'grey' - she lies, and she's cunning and she's willing to hurt others for people she loves. Ideally then, she should be able to fulfil Omkara's journey, and help him overcome his overtly moralistic thinking.
From the beginning of the show, I have only related to Omkara as a character. It scared me initially, how much I related to the person he was, and what he stands for. This man know everyone around him, but himself. He desperately divides his world into halves, because he seeks some form of control in the world that is so out of his reach. He rages a constant battle within himself; because all he wants is to make peace with himself, and soothe his own wounds. He can't though, and it terrifies him.
I'm going out on a limb here, but I'm pretty sure that Omkara has abandonment issues. Even though its not spelled out, there are underlying signs all around. His father, though not physically leaving their family, has left them emotionally - by cheating on Jhanvi with Swetlana. Do you honestly think that Gauri leaving him would really be the best thing for him?
I know that yes, Gauri has her own self-respect to uphold, but I also know that the way her anger towards him was written was not a way that I was very keen on. In theory, people like Om would loathe ultimatums, and they would resent being left. Its terrifying for someone with abandonment issues and someone who prides themselves on being independent, to be given a situation where they do not have any choice. Especially when it comes to love - because he might listen to her because he loves her, but there's no way that it won't leave scars on him. So yes, I honestly don't want a physical RiKara separation.
Gauri has things she resents as well - I just hope that she doesn't show it by leaving him. See, it worked for ShivIka because they're both stubborn and even though he loves her, he didn't really realise what she was to him until much later. Shivaay SIngh Oberoi learns through the situations that he is thrown into, especially the ones he can't take control in. Om, on the other hand, may learn to cherish Gauri as well, but it will also break him further. It won't heal his wounds, but rather, will carve them deeper.
She needs to make him fight for her, definitely. One of the reasons I stopped watching DBO was because of the way he used to address her - like she was an animal. Goddamnit, the man needs to have a redemption track, but definitely not through a separation.
Unlike Annika and Bhavya, it takes Gauri a while to forgive. Even if she does, the resentment will haunt her for a while. For their sake, I hope that this the battle that RiKara have to really fight with, and alongside each other. This idea that even if they love each other, they will eventually need to learn to build bridges and understand each other as who they are. Om needs internal harmony, Gauri needs to maintain her self-respect.
The writers need to build on this dynamic, instead of trying to do whatever they're doing right now. Omkara and Gauri are both beautiful characters, and they desperately (alongside the other two couples, but rants on them later!) need a track to elevate this further!
