You are saying as if people did not said the same about Akki. Even me myself found it tasteless when Haas Mat Pagli song released, and the song's video was rejected in IF itself. The issue was debated there in whole social media, than even Akki was questioned about it in media. So it is not like only SRK would have been mocked and not Akki.
Actually people for a long time where debating like how can a social message movie, encourage stalking and whole toilet issue was forgotten because of that. It was only after the movie released and WOM was strong that movie gained steam otherwise given how strong trailer was, opening 20 crore ki honi chahiye thi
On Topic: Ofcourse, it would have done great business, the script is the original hero of this movie. SRK hota toh opening bhi tagdi hoti after such a great trailer, aur WOM toh hai hi ish movie ka.

NO the role would not suit him at all!
