Part 20:

6 months later

Few days after Mehak's wedding was called off, Shaurya approached the Sharmas for their permission to allow Mehak to work at his restaurant again. The Sharmas happily agreed. Shaurya didn't want to rush things this time. He had promised her that he would become worthy of her trust and love and he really wanted to do that.

It had been six months that Mehak had started working with him. Shaurya had changed from the mean, manipulative guy to someone who was more appreciative and kind towards his staff a change that had been noticed by everyone including his mother and Rajeev.

Mehak had thought that after few days, Shaurya would visit her family with the marriage proposal. However, she was surprised when he said that he wanted to wait and know her better. This was something that didn't go down well with Mehak. It made her doubt her decision of trusting him again. She was angry that he was wasting time when she had told him umpteen times that her Kaanta chachi had started making rounds of various marriage bureaus for her rishta.

One day, she was angrily chopping the veggies alone in the kitchen when Shaurya had come to ask her about a dish.

Shaurya: Mehak, did you start working on the dessert "Baklava? I hope Kunal has started training you on this..

Mehak simply ignored him and continued chopping the veggies.

Shaurya (a little louder): Mehak, did you hear me?

Mehak angrily: YES!

Shaurya was taken aback with her reaction. He walked towards her and kept his hand on her shoulder. She shrugged him off and continued with her work.

Shaurya held her shoulders tightly and made her look at him. She refrained from looking at him and kept her eyes fixed on the floor. Shaurya was worried with her reaction.

Shaurya worriedly: Mehak, is everything alright? Are you stressed out about the dish? Please don't worry its ok...I will help you out with it...See its not that diff...

Mehak looked up at him with tear filled eyes. Shaurya cupped her face and wiped her tears. This was trouble he knew that. Was he really stressing her out with too much work? Was she feeling too much pressure?

Shaurya hugged her and said: Mehak, I am sorry if this has caused you too much stress but I thought that you were capable enough of handling it...I will ask Kunal to train someone else..Not to worry dear!!

Mehak broke out of his hug and pushed him slightly: Is this is what you think about all the time Shaurya? Work, work and work?

Shaurya looked at her confusingly. He tried to hold her back but she hit him on the arm and said angrily: I don't want to talk to you...You are just impossible..Just go away!!

Shaurya looked shocked. Was she having second thoughts about their relationship? Was she disappointed with her decision of giving him a second chance? Hell, he couldn't understand her sudden outburst today. What just happened today exactly to cause her to react this way.

Shaurya cupped her face again: Mehak, please tell me what happened? What have I done?

He waited impatiently for her to answer. Mehak wiped her tears and said angrily: The problem is that you aren't doing anything Shaurya? Its been months now and you still haven't met my family for our marriage. Are you having second thoughts now? I am sure you have got bored of me now and are planning to dump me...Is that what you are going to do? So many times, I have told you that my chachi is looking for proposals for me but nahi...You always turned a deaf ear to all that..When are you going to talk to them? After my marriage? Tum kuch bhi nahi samjhte...

And there she started her fresh round of tears again. She was holding his shirt in her fists trying to balance herself with Shaurya's arms around her waist.

So that was it. She wasn't angry coz she was stressed regarding work but because she felt that Shaurya wasn't interested in her anymore. He looked at her amused.

Mehak saw that expression on his face and got angry. She hit him on the chest with her fists and tried to push him but Shaurya held her tightly bringing her close to him.

She continued sobbing looking down at the floor. He held her chin and made her look at him.

Shaurya (controlling his laughter): You thought I wasn't interested in you anymore and was planning to dump you? Mehak, I didn't know you had a sense of humor...

Saying that, he burst out laughing. Mehak looked at him bewildered.

Mehak angrily: Are you done? Shaurya irritate mat karo...Just let me go...

She tried to free herself from his hold but he only held her tighter.

Shaurya pulled her closer tucking a strand of hair behind her ear and said : No, I wont let you go - not now, nor ever. Mehak, listen to me...The reason I am not rushing into anything now is that I want to prove my trust and loyalty to our relationship and not because I m bored of you. I will never be bored of you sweetheart. I want some time for both of us. I want us to know each other better. Do you think its easy for me to stay away from you for so long? Hell, its not !!! I feel like I am dying every single minute away from you. You gave me a chance and now I don't want to ruin it. I want to earn your respect and trust and for that if I have to wait any longer, I would just do that.

Mehak touched his cheek and said: But I trust you...then why?

Shaurya held her hand that was on his cheek and kissed it: I know you do. In future, if we ever fight, I don't want us to look at each other with distrust. I need to build that faith and understanding in our relationship...I have never been loved before without being used for someone's' ulterior motives but you have taught me the value of love and made my belief stronger in it. I assure you that I am not commitment phobic Mehak. I just want to give you some time and space. Will you help me do that? Please Mehak!!

Mehak looked at him with awe. Was this the same man who had broken her trust and insulted her? He loved her so much that he wished to be worthy of her love and here, she was thinking that he didn't love her anymore. She felt so stupid.

Mehak hugged him tight: I am sorry Shaurya...Its just that I don't want to stay away from you..I am sorry to have misunderstood your intentions. I love you alot!!!

Shaurya hugged her tighter and laughed: Aww...you really thought that I would do that..Mehak, you are crazy...No wonder your siblings call you tubelight' coz koi baat tumhe jaldi samjh hi nahi aati.

Mehak hit him on the arm playfully and said: Shut up and don't you dare Aww' me...Samjhe.

Shaurya: Ok fine, I won't...Love you too Mehak..You are my life and I would never want to lose my life!!Never forget that!!

Shaurya kissed her forehead and left. Mehak heaved a sigh of relief. She was sure now that Shaurya had changed and that he would always keep her happy.

In those 6 months, Mehak and Shaurya would meet in private to spend some time with each other. During their fake courtship, they had never discussed about their personal life but now Shaurya wanted Mehak to know everything about his past and his painful childhood. He told her how he hated his father for betraying his mother and leaving both of them to die on the streets. Mehak, in turn, would hug him and console him to let go his past and embrace his future. On the other hand, Mehak would tell him about how she missed her parents during her childhood. They both wanted to soothe each other's pain.

At the hotel, they kept a safe distance from each other making sure that no one knew about their relationship. Shaurya would leave no chance of stealing glances of his lady love during their regular meetings. Chef Kunal had noticed how Shaurya would appreciate every dish of Mehak instead of berating her. He would also notice the way his boss looked at his intern at times. Kunal had once warned Mehak to be careful of Shaurya. He genuinely looked concerned for her like an elder brother. Mehak had simply smiled and ignored him.

It was during one of their long drives when Mehak had told him about Chef Kunal's concern for her. Shaurya was angry but Mehak laughed it off assuring him that he was just worried for her like an elder brother. But Shaurya wasn't willing to accept that. She simply pulled his cheeks and kissed him on the nose to calm him down. She perfectly knew how to handle his anger now.

Meanwhile, Shaurya would visit the Sharmas for random reasons. During one of those meetings, he had come to know that Mohit was looking for a job. Shaurya helped Mohit get a job in one of his friend's companies.

When Mehak came to know about it, she asked him: Shaurya, why did you help Mohit? See, if you did this to impress my family then this is absolutely wrong...Mohit ko apni mehant pe kuch karne do...

Shaurya knew she would react this way maybe that is why he didn't tell her about it. He held her shoulders and made her sit on the couch.

Shaurya held her hand said: Mehak, yes I asked my friend to give him that job but trust me I am a businessman and so is my friend. We would never hire someone if we weren't sure of that person's loyalty and dedication towards their work. I had just asked him to take his interview and if he thought Mohit wasn't good enough for the job, he would have rejected him. Him getting the job had nothing to do with my recommendation..Trust me!! I just gave him a chance to prove his talent...That's it!! I know the importance of having that one chance' to prove yourself!!!

Mehak looked at him with pride. She hugged him sideways and rested her head on his chest.

Mehak: Thank you Shaurya...Thank you very much!! Mohit is so happy!!!

Shaurya hugged her back saying: Don't thank me...If you really wanna thank me, then just stand by me when I would come to your house with the proposal...Uss waqt peeche mat hathna!!

Mehak pinched him on the hand saying: Main toh kabse keh rahi hoon ki chachi se baat karo but tum hi time waste kar rahe ho and now you are accusing me!!Waah Maata Rani...kaise Khadoos Kumar se pyaar kiya hai!!

She said so looking up at the ceiling as if really talking to her Maata Rani. Shaurya laughed at her antics. She indeed was cute.

Khanna Mansion:

Mehak frustratingly: I give up...No seriously, thats it!!I cant do this anymore Shaurya Khanna!!

Saying so, she sat on the bed with her face buried in her hands.

She was beyond angry. Today, they had decided that they would meet the Sharmas and confess about their love for each other. For the past two hours, Shaurya had been trying various outfits for this meeting.

Shaurya walked towards Mehak and bend down on his knees holding her hand.

Shaurya: Sorry Mehak...Please

Mehak snatched her hand away from his and said angrily: Shaurya, two hours...2 gante se I am seeing you changing clothes after clothes...first, you decided to wear a sherwani..When I told you to keep it casual, you said that shaadi ki baat karni hai toh lets wear shaadiwale clothes...After wearing it, you said it looks too flashy and changed into a formal attire. Ab three piece suit pehena hai toh, you are confused with the tie color...This is the third tie that you have changed...How do clothes matter? Just wear any damn thing!!!

Saying so, she folded her arms across her chest and looked sideways. She looked like the female version of Shaurya Khanna to him now.

Shaurya held her chin lightly and pulled her up to look him in the face: Mehak yaar, please don't get angry...I just want this meeting to be perfect and for them to accept me..You know what its said about impressions First impression is the last impression and I want to hit bull's eye in this meeting..

Mehak looked at him angrily: Technically, this isn't your first meeting Shaurya..They have met you and known you for quite a long time and why wont they accept you? Their opinions have changed just like mine for you...They will love you just as I do..So stop stressing yourself!!Main hoon na!!!

She kissed him on the cheek. He closed his eye savoring this moment. He sat on the bed next to her. He took her face in his hands and caressed her cheeks gently, kissing her on the forehead saying: I know but I just want it to be perfect..That's it!!!Bas abhi I won't change..This is final..Promise!!! Happy now??

Mehak smiled at him and pulled him for a hug.

Shaurya teasingly: Mehak, don't you think you have become too touchy these days...

Mehak broke the hug and looked at him with an aww' expression. She hit him on his chest and pushed him softly but Shaurya held her in time making her fall on his lap.

Mehak wrapped her arms around his neck: Ab who is getting touchy touchy?

Shaurya held her tightly by the waist saying: When did I say that I mind it?? Tumne puri baat sunni nahi and chal padi...How am I to be blamed for this?

Mehak rolled her eyes and rested her head against his chest listening to his heartbeats.

He held her close for a while, caressing her hair and back. Mehak closed her eyes feeling his warmth.

Shaurya: Mehak..

Mehak: Hmm

Shaurya: Don't you think we should tell them the truth?

Mehak: What truth?

Shaurya closed his eyes: What I did to you in the past? How I betrayed you and played with your feelings?

Mehak looked at him and held his face: That's not needed Shaurya. We already had our discussion on this..Not again please!!! I told you I have forgotten and forgiven you for everything so it isn't required any more.. The only thing that my family and your family should know is that we love each other deeply and nothing else...

Shaurya had always brought this topic for discussion with Mehak. He wanted the Sharmas to know the entire truth of their relationship but each time, Mehak would talk him out of it. He knew he had done mistakes in the past but was ready to accept them but Mehak was adamant on not letting anyone know about it.

Shaurya: But I think they should know...

Mehak cupped his face: No, they don't need to...That was our past and we should be concerned of our future...

She adjusted his tie and got up.

Mehak: Lets go Mr. Khanna before chachi reprimands you for being late...aur tumhe daant khaate huye nahi dekh paaongi...Ab please chalo!!!

Shaurya held her hand smilingly making his way towards his car.
