Kashibai is being shown as the perpetual rothi-sundari.

The name was given to her in childish spite. However it fits her perfectly, as the adult Kashi is shown crying or tearing up almost every time she appears on screen.

The CVs have determined to mess up her character. She and Rakma (Chimna's wife) are shown as jobless housewives. I confess my knowledge of history is poor nevertheless I cannot imagine that Peshwan bai and her DILs would have been idle throughout the day. Life was hard then and I imagine they would have been occupied with their housework and helping the masses.

To show Kashi mopping around all day is really unfair to her. Yes, I can see her crying some - because crying is a non violent way of releasing stress. But they show her tearing up at the drop of a hat. The CVs are showing her psychologically weak while they are making great effort in showing Mastani as emotionally strong and a source of support for her family.

This is downright unfair to Kashibai - she deserves better. In her life she has shown a high sense of emotional maturity - just by the one act of taking care of Mastani's kid. She did not do it for Bajirao - she did it to preserve Maratha dignity or the dignity of the swaraj cause. Because if Shamsher were brought up as a Muslim and had any leanings towards the Mughals - it would be a big shame for Marathas and their cause! By bringing Shamsher under her fold - she raised a Krishnarao who died for the cause of Swaraj!

The Peshwa family fostered many children. This included newborn Sadashiv, Chimaji Appa's son by his first wife Rakhma (who died in 1730) and 3 month old infant daughter Bayabai by his second wife Annapurnabai who went Sati when Chimaji died in December 1740.

Shamsher-Mastani's 6 year old son- was also raised by the Peshwa family but was brought up in his Muslim mother's faith as he was born illegitimate. Illegitimate children neither took their father's surname nor his faith.Such children were well-looked after but succession was governed by very strict rules.

The legend about Rau wanting to raise him a Brahmin and also insisting on a sacred thread ceremony is unsubstantiated. This would have been impossible in the orthodox 18th century climate of Maharashtra. Shamsher's son Ali Bahadur and their descendants became Nawabs of Banda and always practised Islam.

Re: the font in bold type.

So, Mastani was believed to be a practicing Muslim or leaning more towards Islam - although some claim that she belonged to one of those faiths that was a fusion of Islam and Hinduism!

Shamsher was six years old when his parents died. How did he end up becoming a practicing Muslim in a Marathi Brahmin household unless his mother had been a Muslim herself? Point to consider.
