Part 19:

When Kaanta chachi had knocked on her door to call Mehak to the mandap, Mehak had asked him to leave but Shaurya couldn't. He hid behind the curtains so that chachi doesn't see him. He knew how much Mehak loved her family. He knew she loved him but she would always choose her family's honor over him. It was too late for her to back out from this wedding.

He hid behind the pillar at the balcony staring at Mehak and Ajay. He wanted to rush to her and stop her from getting married but he just couldn't do that. She had asked him if he had ever cared for her or loved her, he wouldn't do anything foolish. He didn't want to hurt her further. When they started the third phera, he couldn't stop himself and made his way towards the mandap. He had taken few steps when he had heard a female voice asking everyone to stop the wedding. He heard everything that the girl Jaspreet said. It made him punch Ajay's face which he would do one day for sure. He watched Pammi and Ajay being thrown out of the mandap, Kaanta chachi crying, Mehak consoling chachi and finally the Sharmas hugging each other happily.

He had to talk to her and convince her to give him one last chance. He always believed that God had never been kind to him and gave him any happiness. He accused his destiny of playing cruel games with his happiness first it was his mother and then it was Shruti but how could he not see that the very same destiny gave him Karuna Maa and now Mehak.

When he saw chachi and Mehak making their way towards Mehak's room, he decided to wait in her room and talk to her when she was alone. He understood chachi's fears regarding Mehak. The thought that she could have tried to harm herself shuddered him. It pained him to even think about what would have happened.

When he saw her on the bed crying, he approached her with slow steps. Without looking up, she said: Why are you still here? Didn't I ask you to leave? Aren't you happy with what happened today?

Shaurya painfully: Mehak, I am so...

Mehak stood angrily facing him: Sorry? Is that you wanted to say? Sorry for what Shaurya? Aren't you happy that my wedding has been cancelled and I am left all alone here crying and blaming my destiny? Does this make you happy? Of course, it would, right!! This is what you wanted. You had told me innumerable times how victorious you feel seeing me cry. I am sure today would be marked the happiest day of your life..Hai na? Bolo na Shaurya?

Shaurya simply looked at her dumbfounded. Her pain was evident. Did he really want that? Did he really want her wedding to be cancelled? Few months back, he would have hoped the worst for her but now when it actually happened, he is feeing remorseful.

He walked towards her trying to hold her arm but she pushed him saying: Don't you dare Shaurya!! Don't you dare! You have played well with my feelings..Don't show this fake sympathy of yours...JUST LEAVE FROM HERE!!!

Shaurya tried to touch her again but this time she held his collar tight and shouted: After all that you did to me and played with me like a toy, I wanted to hate you...I really want to but I hate myself coz I just can't seem to do that. I should hate you but I cant. I ...

Saying so, she collapsed on the floor sobbing uncontrollably. She kept on saying incoherently that she should hate him but she couldn't.

Shaurya bent down on his knees leaning over her cupping her face to make her look at him. Tears blurred her vision as she searched for the man who once claimed to love her and honor her. She found him looking at her with grief-stricken eyes. He was crying too. She kept on hitting him on the chest scratching him with her fingers.

Shaurya didn't stop her and allowed her to vent her anger.

Shaurya (chokingly): Hit me as much as you want. Do whatever you want with me. Beat me, kick me, punish me, scream at me but give me once chance Mehak. I can't be in worse pain than I am now. Just this last time. I have been a fool blinded by my ego and pride. You taught me the value of love and kindness something that I had experienced only from my mother. I was an idiot to not see the depth of your love and care for me. I know I don't deserve you but I ll try to be worthy of your love Mehak...Trust me this one last time. Please!

Mehak had no energy left in her. A lot had happened today. She was stressed out. Her shoulders slumped and she stared at the floor.

Without looking at him, she replied: Do whatever you want Shaurya. I don't care anymore. Trust is a fragile thing. It is earned, not given. It is like an eraser which gets smaller with every mistake. It is the backbone of every relationship and you broke that. I had never trusted Ajay. Sooner or later, I knew that my life would be ruined and I was prepared for that. I would have never blamed my destiny for his actions but with you, it was different. You made me trust you and then broke it into pieces shattering me and my belief in love. How can I give you another chance? Would you have given me another chance if I had done the same?

Shaurya stared at her still trying to see any hope for their relationship.

Shaurya looked shattered hearing her say all that.

Shaurya spoke painfully: You are right Mehak. I broke your trust but now I want to rectify my mistakes. I know I have done many but we both know that you were always the bigger person in our relationship. Give me that chance once. I assure you that you won't be disappointed this time.

He folded his hands looking down at the floor.

She grabbed him by the collar and sobbed on his chest: I hate you..You are bad...I just hate..hate..love you. I just couldn't stop loving you..Love you!!!

He pulled her in a bone crushing hug. He feared that she would change her mind and he wasn't willing to take that risk again.

Shaurya broke the hug and cupped her face: I promise I will love you for the rest of my life.I can't live without you Mehak...Thank you for trusting me again. I love you very much!!

They rested their foreheads against each other savoring this moment of happiness.

After what felt like eternity, they broke apart and sat next to each other. Shaurya was leaning against the bed with Mehak sitting between his knees resting her head on his chest playing with the buttons of his pastel blue shirt. Shaurya was thinking something when he tightened his arms around Mehak protectively. The suddenness of the hug scared her.

Mehak asked: What happened Shaurya?

Shaurya's voice trembled when he spoke: Mehak what if Ajay wasn't a fraud and he hadn't cheated that girl, would you still have got married to him?

Shaurya waited for her to answer impatiently.

Mehak closed her eyes and answered: I had no choice Shaurya. I would have got married to him.

Shaurya hugged her tightly: I am sorry again Mehak. Meri ek galti ki wajah se your life would have got spoiled...Main apne aap ko kabhi maaf nahi kar paata! My heart is breaking at the thought of losing you...

She hugged him back saying: Let bygones be bygones now Shaurya. I didn't get married to him and I am here with you. Jo hua nahi uske bare mein mat socho...Lets start our lives fresh.

To lighten the already tensed moment, she got up and pointed a finger at his chest: If this time you break my heart, I will tear you apart and send you to the gallows. So be careful...If you want to change your decision, you can do it now mister coz I won't spare you without taking my revenge!!

Shaurya mockingly gulped his fear down looking at her: Ah, Mehak you are looking like the evil queen from the movie "Snowhite and now I really need to rethink my decision.

Mehak hit him on the chest playfully: What the hell!!!

Shaurya laughed gathering her in her arms holding her tight with the promise of never letting her go.

Note: A word of caution to the bombers - havent written the next chapter which will probably be the last chapter...So please expect a delay and please leave ur comments...Silent readers can i have ur comments too????if possible...
