I don't understand the hype. I can understand that it was a success in Marathi but it's pretty much like the Tamil movie Kaadhal with Bharat.
The ending may differ but the story is similar.

Why only Kaadhal, there area lot of Indian movies based on rich and poor here in Sairaat the distinction was caste based and mostly about honor killing which was depicted and displayed very nicely... Sairaat is definitely different then kaadhal or Alaipayuthey...
I fact there is a marathi remake of Kaadhal...

It is not just the rich and poor aspect that reminds of Kadhal but also the scenes where the couple are adjusting to a newer lifestyle, from bathrooms to sleeping in theaters. Sairat does remind one of Kadhal at many instances. Also the fierce girl and relatively low key guy along with an amazing friend. Though I agree, that the presentation of Sairat is different from Kadhal and the likes, but the Deja Vu feeling is totally there.

The story of Sairat is nothing new. Its the treatment which differs. It just brings a new life to the same story. The scenary, the sheer natural acting by the leads. Thats the key pts

@TheekThak... see that's what some people feel abt its closeness to Saathiya some feel the defiance similar to Ek Duke ke liye, some fee similarity to the characters and feel of Kaadhal...
I agree with what's written above that the story is repeated in so many movies so many regions nothing new... but it's the leads their natural acting, the ending, and something so real that relates to it... I feel all these beautiful movies though share similarity are woven and handled differently hence that's what makes them unique... it's not like one is picked up from the other...

In Kadhal it was also a matter of caste.

Exactly, in both cases the girl was spoiled outgoing and bossy. She also didn't care about consequences.
It was also a matter of caste because that''s what is implied when the girls family leads the couple away. Especially when the uncle tells the story of his shopped off arm.
