Barun Sobti to Karan Singh Grover: Popular TV actors who failed to

Barun Sobti made his debut on the small screen by starring in two cameo roles with shows like 'Shraddha' and 'Dill Mil Gayye'. However, his roles did enough to bag him a lead role in a show titled 'Baat Hamari Pakki Hai'. He gained a huge number of female fan following through this show and eventually went on to bag yet another big-ticket show, titled, 'Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon'. As he rose on the popularity charts, Barun's career took a 360-degree turn and he began getting offers from Bollywood and various other regional film industry. He made his Bollywood debut in the 2014 film 'Main Aur Mr Riight'. He also acted in 'Dry Dreams', a short film about water conservation and signed Arshad Sayed's 'Satra Ko Shaadi Hai' but revealed in May 2017 that the film had been shelved. This forced the young lad to return to his small-screen career.

The heartthrob of small screen Karan Singh Grover has a huge female fan following. His show 'Dill Mill Gayye' and his character Dr Armaan is one of the most recognised characters on TV even today. However, his tryst with Bollywood has not been as commendable as his TV career. Karan made his debut in Bollywood with 'Bhram' and bagged his first Bollywood film as a lead actor with 'Alone', starring Bipasha Basu. He featured in 'Hate Story 3' later the same year, however, both films received a lukewarm response at the box office.

Mihir of 'Kyun Ki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi' is a television superstar. His first film 'Dhund: The Fog' was a box office disaster, but he kept going with films like 'Jodi Kya Banayi Wah Wah Ramji', '13B', 'Dahshat', 'Dhoondte Reh Jaaoge!' and 'Lodi Road'. Finally, he returned to small screen and did a few reality shows that were well received by the audience.

Gurmeet Choudhry ruled millions of hearts with his character of Lord Ram in a mythological show 'Ramayana'. His fan following increased overnight and that helped him bag several other TV shows. In a short span, Gurmeet emerged as one of the numero uno actors on small screen. However, it seemed that his decision to try his hand at a Bollywood career was not wise as his films 'Khamoshiyan', 'Mr. X', 'Wajah Tum Ho' and 'Laali Ki Shaadi Mein Laaddoo Deewana' bombed at the box office.

Jay Bhanushali rose to fame on the small screen with shows like 'Kayamath', 'Dance India Dance' and a few other daily soaps. He is considered as one of the best hosts on television and has gained immense popularity as a reality TV host. However, despite his small screen debut, his Bollywood career which included films like 'Hate Story 2', 'Desi Kattey' and 'Ek Paheli Leela' opposite Sunny Leone, failed to match up to his TV popularity.

Similar to that of Jay Bhanushali, Manish Paul is best known for his comic timings and as a charismatic host on small screen shows. He gained popularity by hosting reality shows and that signalled him to pursue a career in Bollywood. However, his debut film as a lead, 'Mickey Virus' didn't work well with the audience. Similarly, other films like 'Ranbanka', 'Tere Bin Laden 2', 'Katha' also bombed at the box office.

Actor Apurva Agnihotri made his Bollywood debut with the Shah Rukh Khan starrer 'Pardes'. However, his Bollywood career did not match up to his polished characters and fame on small screen. The actor, despite being so popular on the small screen, failed to make it big in the Hindi film industry. Apurva continued pursuing his Bollywood dreams by taking on small roles, but it failed to make as big a mark as his small screen's career.
