Having a lot of people vent about GST in India in my TL. Found out that they reduced the tax on a movie ticket under Rs 100 from 28%. How in the world do you guys afford to go to the movies ? 😲.

we are paying with the market rate of dollars like if US charges 11 dollars then in Indian mall like Mumbai zone it is charged with 11 x 65 = 715 for recliner and 450/500 for usual seats on first week

No idea about India, all I know is that movie in Multiplex is not cheap and it all depends on which city you are in.
Small town's plexes will charge much less, even on weekend than Gurgaon Malls.

Last time I watched movie in Kolkata. South City INOX, regular tickets were 200 bucks and special seating was 300 to 500 bucks
So prices will come down now after GST?
How does it work?
Will tickets be cheaper now?

Less than Rs 100, taxes come down. Rest 28% AFAIK.

$11 is not a lot of money to us. But isn't Rs 715 lot of money ? I truly have no idea what Rs 715 in India can buy so please pardon the dumb question.

So its only applicable to single screens.
Good thing, people who cannot afford will get a boost to go watch movies 👍🏼

Rupees 715 is equal to 11 dollars in current exchage rate

But 11 dollars we pay that price for matinee shows, for evening and night shows its higher, usually 13-15 dollars here and if its 3 D then its higher usually 17 dollars

In West Bengal the entertainment tax on non-bengali film was 30%. Now the GST will replace the entertainment tax i.e you have to pay 28% tax instead of 30%.
