I thought Ali loved Avni and was waiting for her all these years?

I started watching the serial recently and went back to watch from where grown up Ali's scenes. In those scenes Ali was telling Neil about his wait for Avni and it felt like he was in love with her. But now it seems he is in love with Riya? Can someone explain what did I miss? Was it shown in childhood that Ali is in love with Riya?

Yes Ali loved only Avni and he still loves her.he doesn't love riya. Since avni want to stop Neil and Riya marriage Ali wants to help her.he is just acting to be nice with riya so that she will break up with neil.

Really? But his words to riya like if she wants to feel special or something come here and all??? And he even asked Riya why she wanted to separate Avni n Neil?? I thought he is happy with Avni Neil's relation

Neil and riya are getting married.so till now he didn't find anything between Neil and Avni.And he thinks they are just friends.once he knows about their feelings and when they get married he will be heartbroken.

As long as Ali is concerned, he don't know there is even relationship between Avani & Neil. Even those two idiots don't know about their own emotions.

& yes, Ali said those things but didn't you hear the next words he said after Riya went away, that he knows Avani wants to break their marriage, but won't say anything about it to anyone. But he is her best friend & knows it & will help her by changing Riya's mind about the marriage.

Yes I saw that. But the later episodes also showed him saying something or other to Riya which made me feel Ali likes her. And also when he said he is avni's best friend, i felt he considers her as bff. It all got me confused.

he's trying his best to break apart Neil and Riya because that's what Avni wants. He's still madly in love with Avni. Which we got a glimpse of when Nanno was teasing Avni about liking Neil. Ali's reaction gave it away that he still likes/loves Avni.

Everything he says to Riya, is to make her feel that Neil does not treat her like a fiancee/lover should. To create doubt in Riya's mind so she herself calls off the wedding.
