Just mentioned this in the thread @tibs has made that in all likelihood this issue of an underage driving which is relevant to and prevalent in Delhi will all but be swept under the rug conveniently

Very distressing to watch such stuff being churned out on ItV

Totally distressing, Fernweh..

I cant digest this. its painful

Today's show was upsetting on many levels, the sheer acting of naani, the irresponsibility and abominable behavior of the grown up in the car, the misguided mother, the thoughtlessness of the plot...

There is the aspect of bringing in social issues that you are ill-equipped to handle. I get that this show is not meant for it. Why not just stay clear of them then? Sonal abuse case atleast was better handled in the sense that she walked out. But, the rape and murder attempt, and now underage driving and its implications. Why take up these social issues when you cannot address them with the graveness that it needs. Especially when they are absolutely not needed for the story to proceed.

Then there is the whole shock value that they were attempting, which again was not needed. The scene in the car was God-awful. It was tantamount to watching a murder or a rape. It really shook me up. Maybe it was the mother in me, but it did have the impact that they were gunning for.

And then there is this whole sentimentalizing this and there by trivializing it, which is plain wrong. Not withstanding the lives lost, I already feel for the 14 year old driving the car, who now has to live with the consequences of an action that all of them in the car were equally responsible for.

@Santi, a very apt post. I was just wondering what types of crimes & social issues they have dealt with till now and unabashedly in the worst possible manner ...

1. Dowry
2. Exploitation of participants in reality shows (includes sexual intimidation)
3. Misuse of power, status and money (e.g. bribing, registering false case)
4. Cheating (includes ditching @altar)
5. Theft
6. Emotional Violence
7. Stalking
8. Kidnapping
9. Molestation / Sexual Abuse / (Attempt of) Rape
10. Underage Driving
11. Rash driving
12. Manslaughter (by a juvenile)

I must have missed a few and have purposefully ignored the repeated mockery of medical practices... All of the above are heinous criminal acts. Unfortunately the makers have either swept them under the rug or simply ignored their horrific implications or justified them in the name of love !!!

I am appalled by this continuous unapologetic, unabashed attitudes towards such abominable criminal acts ...

Maybe it was just me Thabs, but I found the whole car scene upsetting. I get very concerned when I see 12 and 13 years olds behind the wheels and am appalled at parents who allow it even if they are right next to the kid. So, I think it is this quirkiness of mine that made me look at it in a certain way. You see it and let me know...😊

Am just so mad at their level of insensitivity in each and every issue they take up, be it abuse or rape or now accident involving rash driving! I sometime think that they are so thick that they won't understand the gravity of anything until it happens to one of their own. Until then they keep preaching bullshit to the world.

Exactly! I cant agree more with you.

This shit is traumatizing to watch and hell, they justify all in the name of love..

Am all for shows taking up such cases - no two ways about it - but then ensure that it get the right treatment and consideration, show us the implication of such acts, the gravity of it.. will be an eye opener for the large audience as well!

Chandrima, thank you for populating the entire laundry list; I had forgotten most of it except what remained etched in my memory.
Just shows the extent to which what one is forced to be believe is the norm, can be discarded without a thought.

I dread to think of the larger impact coz of the trivialization of tracks!

I have left the show now - just read LUs coz in true ST lang, I chose to use the remote as my time is not worth this rant of a third rate manipulative show which values nothing!

I had always been off ITv and was lured by this show, lulled into thinking this could be different.. but no.. sadly..

Dsr, we are all emotional fools, I believe as we got so deeply entwined with the show.

The PH is in the 'business' of entertainment and has no scruples when it comes to the number game.. they wil continue to peddle what sells..
