I m fed up of watching '2 ghanto mein nikhar ' Or the matrimonial classic advertisements 'looking for fair bride ':\
Do we really need such advertisements?
What is your take on this ?
I therefore open the forum to Debate.
Should we or should we not cater to India's fairness fetish?

I recently saw an add on TV which I loved too much, I don't remember of what it is bu he concept is why to look on outer beauty when the inner one is too attractive that its unavoidable, this is a matchmaking add where the girl who always gets rejected due to her dusky skin one questions the guy who accepts her alliance and then his answer is BANG ON!!

Yes, its true that Indian people are obsessed with fair skin tones and its deemed to be above other outer factors like facial features, healthy and bright skin and ofc most importantly inner factors like attitude, behaviour and generosity. I know not everyone is like this but the difference is especially shown when matchmaking alliances happen.

I'm from AP, I'm considered fair as per my state but people consider me as wheatish (we've people from allover India here) and I hella don't even care, luckily I'm blind to skin tones of people as my vision keeps searching for the inner attributes even in a person I've just met and would depart in a few moments. I know not all people are like me and initial attraction does start with one's own pre-conceptions and the major one is fair skin tone, I know most of the guys around me approach girls with fair skin tone for dating, this is the reason why fairness creams are in high demand and I've no doubt that they'll be unless there's a change in mindsets which seems to be far from possible. Another reason for the success rate of fairness creams is that people in general lack in self-confidence and they keep looking out for boosts from outside and I've also seen that the fair skin toned people are the ones who get complimented the most.😆

I personally have no skin care regimens except for drinking plenty of water each day and of course being hygienic. I'm thinking of getting married this year and luckily my parents don't push me for a better skin tone... (they instead want me to shed few pounds which I know is for my own good, sorry for going out of the topic)

The fetish is annoying, but I'd say, finding a complexion attractive is natural, but to discriminate is wrong.. There are men that like dusky complexion, women too love 'tall, dark and handsome' type..
I'd say it's one thing to like something, but to to think other shades in skin color as inferior and discriminate is wrong.

As for advertisements... hmm, I think more than advertising, firstly, we as people need to educate ourselves and the older/younger ones that you have to be happy with your own complexion, and that we should aim to have a healthy skin.. Color is genetic, and there is beauty in all shades, one just has to see it.

PS --- Point I'm trying to make is, advertisements say something because there are people to buy what they're saying :p ..It's just a marketing strategy. I never got influenced by such ads despite not being 'fair' complexioned. People have to change within themselves, first... marketing strategies change as per people.. 😆

But if we speak along the lines of social responsibility of marketing, all those ads look like they are making fair skin an ideal complexion indeed. And that is wrong.

First of all
All the best for your groom hunting process!
I agree with being blind to skin tones.
Its just pitiful that people actually categorize ' beauty or not' on basis of this
Yes, to all of your other points!

Oh I agree with you
Tall, Dark and Handsome theories !( the classics have ruined it for the girls:p)

By fetishes I meant ,
X is dusky, dark or brown watched advertisement marketing Y product claiming to 'transform ' X into some powdered doll( it could be vice - versa too but soo not in India)
*cringe*

IMO advertisements should practice some ethical and social sensitivity while catering to such delusional claims of products.
We can't change mindset of people by reaching out to them individually but I guess advertisements can achieve this to some degree ..only if they act with responsibility .

Sorry to say but your simple facts show how shallow minded you are... Grow up kiddo!!! The two female actresses are indeed beautiful in their own way otherwise they wouldn't be in that position in which they're now...

Skin tone is basically genes and science, skin covers the flesh and organs which are vital for living, skin is also a vital organ but the skin tone has nothing to do with it... our life-span doesn't depend on the skin tone... the so called ok'ish skin tone is the one which we most Indians have, don't we!! You're too ignorant that I think I'm wasting my energy typing this much

In my personal opinion, I find fair skin tone as boorish... there must be some spark in the eyes of the person which will be directly reflected from the purity of one's heart and this is the most attractive
