Will Kajol choose Idiot over Khan?
The latest buzz in Bollywood suggests that director Raj Kumar Hirani is going all out to convince actress Kajol to play the female lead in his film Idiot based on Chetan Bhagat's book Five Point Someone. Hirani has already roped in Aamir Khan and is close to signing Kajol opposite her Fanaa co-star.
"Kajol and Hirani have spoken about the film. And she has shown keen interest in the script and the film. Although nothing has been signed, the story line and her role have impressed her and there is a very strong possibility of her working in the film," says a source close to the actress
The source adds that the actress and her husband, Ajay Devgan's directorial debut U, Me Aur Hum releases in April and that the actress has refused to make any commitment or think of anything else till the film hits theatres. So one can't help but wonder what would happen to Kajol's best friend Karan Johar's film Khan if Kajol is to do Hirani's Idiot?
Johar has made it clear in numerous interviews that for him it's only Kajol who can be paired opposite Shah Rukh Khan in his film set in post 9/11 America.
"When Kajol made her comeback in Kunal Kohli's Fanaa with Aamir both Karan and SRK were disappointed. Karan wanted to bring back his favourite actress but she chose to do it with Aamir and now too if she is to do Idiot it will put a spanner of sorts in Karan's plans of signing Kajol opposite SRK," says a source close to Johar.
Recently we had reported that although SRK was a forgone conclusion in Johar's Khan, Kajol was to still sign on the dotted line. She has reportedly asked best friend Karan to come back with the detailed schedule of filming in the US and only after that will she make a formal commitment.
Another thing in the favour of Hirani's film is that it will be shot in India whereas Karan's film is based in the US. Kajol has made it clear that she can't stay away from her daughter Nyassa for long intervals and that was one of the reasons why she had taken a sabbatical from films after becoming a mother.
John Abraham has already been signed to play the second male lead while Saif Ali Khan is close to accepting the part of the third IIT student for Idiot.
About Kajol's Role
Bhagat's Five Point Someone is set in the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, in the period 1991 to 1995. It is about the adventures of three mechanical engineering students - Hari Kumar (the narrator in the book), Ryan Oberoi, and Alok Gupta. Kajol is expected to play the role of Hari Kumar's girlfriend who happens to be the daughter of the head of the Mechanical Engineering Department.
