We have seen actresses who debut at very early age even before they complete their education. But I honestly think its very important to have a college degree because industry is very unpredictable.

Earlier the better, so that they can have longevity in their careers. Vidya could have had more top years in her career had she not started so late.

22-24 is ideal if you have a great launch pad and the whole industry wanting to work with you. Like Sara Ali Khan. But if you're a nobody and have to come up the hard way, then starting at 18-19 would be best.. may be do modelling or ads, so that by 22, if you do enough good work, you at least get noticed and are have a chance to be cast in big films. Case in point Disha Patani, she's just debuted, yet she is older than Alia who has had a work experience of 5 years.

Hmm. Actors' peak at 40 😆. At 40, all the Khans were seeing flops. They are a lot more successful in their 50s. Hrithik's peak was during 2006-08 period and he was just in his early 30s, and now he isn't able to replicate that success.

And actresses' retirement at 34. Thank god we have so many actresses now breaking this glass ceiling and continuing to work in their 40s.

You're not wrong but I still feel 18-19 is too early. Because industry is one tough place to survive in so one should be mature. With star kids, its different because they already have a good backing. Alia and Kareena debut at the age of 19 made sense because they knew so many people so there was no fear of getting lost. But its not same for outsiders. I feel one should be at least 21-22 so they have a college degree. In case if acting career doesn't work then they would have a backup option.

Disha debut at the age of 24 which is good. I feel she has a lot of time. @bold Alia had a dream career so far. She found success right after her debut movie which was at the age of 20. But thats because she had a mentor like KJO who helped her pick some of the best films with good roles. Even Kareena was a star kid but she never found success so early on.

Women are put out to pasture by 35 so they have to start as early as possible.

It takes five years just to get traction, once success hits it means at the most 5 years on top, afterward starts the decent.

Once past 30 it's basically over and time to start looking for Mr. Moneybags to get married to.

Yup. That's exactly what I said too; star kids can choose to debut at 19 because it would be difficult to say no to amazing offers coming their way. Besides, they would have many mentors and friends within the industry who will help them. But for outsiders it would be tough. So they can stick to modelling assignments and ads and also pursue their college degree on the side as a backup.

But I feel it shouldn't be the case for everyone. Some who think acting and cinema is their true calling and are passionate about it should not waste any time. Like in Kangana's case. She is 30 now, and came to the industry at 17-18. She took about 9 years to finally get recognized. Had she actually come at 25, she wouldn't have been getting the kind of roles at 34-35 that she is getting now. Roles like Queen and TWMR wouldn't be offered to her because she would be considered too old for those roles.

The bottomline is, I don't think there should be a certain age that one should be targeting. If one is an outsider but wants to take the safe route, finish your degree and start acting. If you are very passionate and think cinema is your true calling, then take a pluge as soon as possible, you haven't got too much time on your hands!

Love how you wrote so well and I agree with you for the most part. I guess a lot depends on your luck. I feel Anushka was lucky that she got connected with right people and got a film like RBNBJ. Then BB after two years of her debut. I guess it all depends on your networking. I agree about Kangana but Kangana did make a lot of wrong choice initially personally and professionally. Had she been little older, maybe she would had avoided making those choices. Nothing can be said. Bollywood is very unpredictable. You never know what can happen so I feel that one needs to think practically.

For insiders, its usually easy to get notice if they are talented because they already know people who can help them out. Even Deepika took good 5 years to get noticed. On the other hand, Anushka took two years to get noticed.
