Anaarkali of Araah gets better reviews than Anushka Sharma's Phillauri
Anaarkali Of Aarah might just manage to earn if we go by the reviews. Critics have lauded it more than Anushka Sharma's Phillauri.

Since the last few years, the Indian audience has matured manifold. They have started to buy tickets for the content of a film rather than pay to see stars. The success of films like Pink and Piku make us feel really proud of the movie audience now. And Anaarkali Of Aarah might just benefit from these new connoisseurs of good cinema. We say so because the reviews of the film have been really good. In fact, they are far better than Anushka Sharma's Phillauri which released along with it. In their 3 star review, The Quint surmised, "Anarkali of Arrah could have been a far better film, but it still deserves to be seen for all the things it gets right." They particularly enjoyed the performances and mentioned, "Swara single handedly gives us moments that make the movie Anarkali of Arre waah! Also seasoned actors of the caliber of Sanjay Mishra and Pankaj Tripathi are remarkably effective in their roles. The performances, in fact, help keep the narrative together with the songs bringing alive the rustic charm of unvarnished small town India." The Indian Express was also in awe of the film. In their 3.5 star review they wrote, "Anaarkali manages to hit many marks. Bhaskar gets a lead role worthy of her. Das is a new director to watch out for. And more than anything else, it is a ladies-oriented film. Enough and more, in these dismal times."

Talking of Phillauri, critics loved the performances but disliked the film as a whole. Indian Express in their review said, "The pacing is not just languid, it is positively slow, and it allows scenes to go on for much longer than they should. I found myself getting impatient in too many places. And though Suraj Sharma and Mehreen Peerzada are likeable and easy on the eye, they are flat. Anushka Sharma is good, but not as good as she can be, and that too only in bits and pieces." Raja Sen mentioned in his review for NDTV that Phillauri hasn't been able to take advantage of Anushka's talent. He revealed, "I can simply declare that Phillauri is too spoofy to feel like a drama and too mournful to be funny. This is a shame, because Anushka Sharma, who has also produced this film, is one of our most intriguing actresses. She's fine in her part, and often beguilingly pretty, yet the film wastes her." It's pretty clear that though Anaarkali of Araah wasn't very popular choice, it has managed to find a place in critics' heart while Phillauri fell short miserably.

There was another article on a popular site saying that one should go for Swara's film rather than Anushka's. Didn't bother to read it yet. 😆
