Why The Show (AND RUDRA) Must Go On

I love Lee. Let's get that out of the way so Rumya fans (of which I am one) don't assume I'm hating on the guy. I LOVE Lee. And while I have strong misgivings about the future of his career, I wish him well. But that does not mean I want Rudra to end. And nor should you. We should want Rudra the character to NOT be scrapped, to not have his tracks ended with a trip to Never-Again-Seen-Land or by him being sent to some relative's house or, GOD forbid, Rudra being killed off.

The issue for me is this: Rudra the character, has more value than just having Leeneesh the actor who
is playing it. All actors, even main heroes like Nakuul and Barun have said it-- they are only as good as the character study they get, and the writing that has created them. The converse of this logic is -- the character is a product of writing, not just acting. Gul does this better than any other producer out there-- she creates CHARACTERS that are iconic, and then casts actors who become those characters and thus, take iconic status in our imaginations. And that, my loves, is WRITING, and excellent, instinctive casting.

I had no idea who Lee was until he burst onto my screen, just like the Om Deewanis didn't know who their Kunal was until Omkara happened -- but my point is, I still don't know who Lee is, as a person. Nor do you. I don't need to support his career choices by boycotting this show. He's a young, talented actor, pulled out of relative obscurity and supporting roles, to become RUDRA SINGH OBEROI, which is how I met him. So the truth is--Lee is not a person for me.
I see him as RUDRA, the creation of Ishqbaaz, and I love him as Rudra Singh Oberoi the Playboy comic onscreen.

And while no one can (or should) discount dialogue delivery, acting and excellent chemistry that Lee has created onscreen- at least 50% of that is writing and not just the actor delivering the performance. So thinking Ishqbaaz is somehow cut at the knees because he is leaving doesn't make sense. To mourn the loss of an actor makes sense--but to be honest, I don't want to mourn the CHARACTER'S loss-and nor should I have to.

The problem with removing Rudra is that for the first 150 episodes, the story actually balanced out between the three brothers with Rudra and Shivaay having their own story arcs quite established. Kahani ke teen hisse is not over, not in the true emotional payoff of the concept. SO-- If Rudra Singh Oberoi is killed off now, it will be something, GIVEN THE STORY ARC of the previous 250 or so episodes --- it will be something that NO ONE -- No Omkara on DBO, not Shivika or the others on Ishqbaaz, can recover from. They cannot do an extended death scene and then three weeks of angst and then on May 1
st go back to business as usual with a giant Rudra picture and a garland in the living room. Not in EITHER show.

That ending is possible with Dadi, Prinku, anyone else, really. But NOT an Obro. And certainly not the youngest one, the one the other two literally brought up, and are affected by the most.
Rudra is not a character who can die and leave the other three main characters whole.

An accident is a copout. And if he's killed?
I'm leaving Soumya out of the equation here-- what will Shivaay Anika and Om do with this death? This is leap of 20 years, second season, new generation stuff, not just an ordinary loss here. Because this will break, permanently break, Shivaay. It will immediately remove Omkara's story arc from slowly working towards his love story with Gauri, to a full blown return to addiction-- especially if say, that most vicious vamp left, Svetlana, is responsible for Rudra's death.

So here's my take, and I hate it, but needs must. Let Lee go, and hopefully let him succeed at his new project. And cast another guy as Rudra, to take over the mantle Lee is leaving behind. These actors are out there, you know. Good ones, exceptionally talented people who'll give their left arm to be part of Ishqbaaz. Like Gul or hate her--her shows are a certified route to superstardom.

We'll hate the new guy. We'll swear never to watch IB or DBO ever again. We'll cry, re-watch old episodes, and swear eternal loyalty to a guy who is leaving his story half way through, for what he assumes are better opportunities. But then we'll tune in. 10 episodes in, maybe 20. They'll have to do some seriously intense story lines to introduce the guy well, to hit the ground running. And--given Gul's ONE genius-- fantastic casting--- we'll find that the guy she selected is not so bad after all. Then, we'll watch out of curiousity and find.. hey, he's giving Rudra new flavor, new quirks, and okay, he's hot too.

And thus, the story continues. And Lee--please do yourself a favor and look at what happened to Baun Sobti, a man who's superstardom you cannot even begin to approach right now. A man who's cult creation ASR still resonates throughout the world in dubbed runs of IPKKND, and who is still mobbed wherever he goes. And look at what actual WORK he could do, what actual INCOME he could earn, even with that super stardom-- whether in Bollywood, or on TV. Since 2012, till now, its been 5 long years. Barun has come right back with Gul, come right back to working for, and with, the woman who gave him all this. So leave on good terms, my love. Chances are, you'll be needing her, too.

Bang on post, i don't think they will end Rudra character but yes we will have to wait till replacement, n i hope we don't have to wait for months as gul is again focusing on new show with barun, i wish we don't have to wait for Rudy like om's fl , but my concern is subha is leaving too n chances R CVS can end priyanka character by suicide or muder, n again sadness in ib , which I am fed up of watching, prinku character is very waek CVS can show anything out of her track, the problem with this show is the story is not planned after 150 episodes, in other shows like beyhad(not a fan just find the show different) the story is preplanned n their explore the character growth after every 2_3months even they know sony don't give time to shows for too long but still CVS knows exactly how to progress n develop the character, but here they write a random track n forcefully bring the characters in random story, n every character react opposite to the believes , they kill the self-respect of anika, intelligence of sso because of random unnassery tracks , i don't know how many more random Inn tracks we have to watch due to absence of rudra and priyanka

well i think I agree. In fact, Gul can take out the best in actors if she wants; only the problem is if SHE WANTS!
But I still hope they don't completely do away with the character or kill it. It'll make both the shows pretty much senseless.

You are right...not everyone makes it big in Bollywood...Many tried and failed to click...

As for Rudr character is concerned it is highly unlike to be killed off cos Soumya is linked to Rudr...So GUL may replace him with someone else...In her show Qubool Hai...second male lead character was replaced initially audience raved, ranted and finally accepted the new guy ...

the only reason why I watch her shows...She casts amazing actors who bring life to character ...and fell in love with the characters portrayed by these actors..

As long as the story line is not compromised ...am game for the new actor as Rudr

In fact in one of his interviews after the release of his first movie, Barun had mentioned something to the effect ... "that he would rather beg than to come back to the telly world"

Agreed completely.

I'm also one of those people who think Lee should be replaced. As much as I love him, I think it's the CHANGE people are scared of, more than the fact that Lee is going.

If they kill him off, his character (and the initial story) will be too trivialized. They'd forget about him eventually and the bond of the three brothers will truly die a slow death. With DBO, Om would never be mentioned again. With Rudy gone, he'd be mentioned for a few epis and forgotten.

Waise I think Gul won't kill him. Remember IPK? She was all ready to replace Barun - despite the shit storm people had stirred - until SP intervened. If I'm correct, the new actor had even begun shooting. So as far as Gul is concerned, shw doesn't really care about what fans say (in this dept) and will totally do her own thing (which is right of her) and replace the actor. I really hope she does.

As for him trying out BW, all I can say is that better people have tried and failed, yes, but it's his life. He's young and if he wants to try his hand at something, he totally should. Moreover, I actually don't really blame him for leaving because Gul didn't deliver on her promises. I wish him all the best for his future. I hope whoever Gul employs now, she should make it clear the role would be a supporting one.

Aprilsunrise in another post suggested that the actor who played nanhey in IPK would be a great replacement and I think it's a wonderful idea! He has the look for it and can deliver dialogues well, too.

Totally agree Navin.

Leenesh was just brilliant as Rudra. I cannot envision anyone else who could have played the character better. His joie de vivre, expressions which changed in microseconds, and the right mix of vulnerability, naivete and strength was conveyed very well by Lee.👏 I haven't seen him in his earlier show, I knew him only from IB, and he has a fan in me.

But just like you, I have reservations about his desire to pursue a career in films. You pointed out Barun- I also give you two other examples: Gurmeet and KSG. The commonality b/w these three is: all three are Gul heroes and all of them abandoned their TV stints to pursue a career in films. The result is there in front of all of us. Yes, Sushant is an exception perhaps, but even he had to ride on the shoulders of Ekta, who was his TV producer- because it was her cousin Abhishek who produced his debut. And let's not even talk about SRK, because that was a different era altogether. Today's Bolly industry is built with nepotism as its bedrock and it is difficult for outsiders to create a niche for themselves there.

Folks tell me that it is better for Lee to look for another opportunity rather than squandering his time and talent here. I agree about the squandering part- that the show has not used his potential, or Rudra/RuMya to good effect- but whether it is wiser to pursue a career in BW is a big question. Call me a naysayer, a doubting Thomas- but bigger TV stars have done the same- and FAILED. MISERABLY at that. And the TV industry is not something you can just come back to if you fail- even this is a big, flourishing industry and thousands of new faces arrive here everyday as well. A Barun can perhaps manage it because of his bond with his producer, but not everyone.

As for the show, I hope they don't kill Rudra- he is the voice of reason, disguised under a veneer of comedy, who reconciles the conflicting ideologies of ShivOm. He is the one who holds them together- the lynchpin of ObBros. I hope they find a worthy substitute for playing Rudra. Will he be as good as Lee, who has put in so much of effort into creating Rudra? Who brings so much of life and liveliness into the show? Probably not. But Rudra deserves to live on nonetheless. So yes, just like you, I say- The show, and Rudra, must go on.

Guys many fans r requesting gul n harneet to kill rudra ..so pls tell gul to replace and not kill

Lee could take a break n experiment.. Iam sure gul.would allow... Leaving is totally senseless as his track would be gaining importance soon n dbo also will focus more on om n tudr...
BTW Iam shocked Barun is returning to daily soap after ranting that it is tiresome!

What u r saying makes sense logically but we fans are big emotional fools, who are attached to the characters of ShivOmRu and accepting another actor as Rudra will be next to impossible for the original OBros. Maybe the new actor will be good, can also be a better than Lee but he can't replace the originality. Also I dont think Gul mata has any story or interest for Rudra or Rumya, otherwise Lee would not have quitted. His character is useless right now. OBros were dead long ago and the the story was never ek kahani ke teen hisse like it was promised. So bringing a new actor to play a wallpaper does not make sense. Either Gul will send Rudra to abroad and he will never return or he will die. It is better to kill him as we will atleast get a proper fairwell for obros.
