Anyone else sees similarities & parallels to Elizabeth/Darcy in Kabir/Myra's relationship?

Both Elizabeth & Myra have been prejudiced against Darcy & Kabir respectively ever since they met despite the undercurrents of attraction. Kabir crushed Myra's pride & ego early on when he called her out for her anger, or for her tendency to only have one version of a story - her version. Darcy crushed Elizabeth's pride when she overheard that she wasn't pretty enough to tempt him.

Myra is similar to Elizabeth in the way she's the good daughter that doesn't offend. She is proud of her wit & intelligence, to the point that she has the tendency to judge based on first impressions & think she is damn right about them. The novel tracks her emotional journey as she comes to realise her error of making hasty judgements & finally overcomes her prejudice, surrendering to love. I feel the show going a similar way with regards to Kabir/Myra.

I would call Kabir a more fun, modern & relatable version of Darcy in that he smiles, jokes around & is not hung up on being prim & proper. He is also very likeable (HEAR THAT MYRA!😆) But he too is well-read, smart & charming like Darcy. Even though Darcy/Kabir tried to have civil conversations with Elizabeth/Myra, they were always misunderstood. Yesterday's discussion or to put it more aptly fight over love & arranged marriages reminded me of Darcy/Elizabeth's conversation in the Bingley's dressing room where that statement of pride/vanity was made. Kabir, like Darcy, is proud without being vain while Myra's vanity clouds her judgement. Technically Myra is the one who gets personal with Kabir all the time calling him a hypocrite & what not, while he maintains a calm front hitting back with arguments & facts (rather than personal opinions).

Despite all the clashes, Kabir/Darcy favour Myra/Elizabeth because they see beyond their imperfections to recognise their beauty & strength of character.

What do you all think?

Cheers,
Samridhi

It's almost like the show I like, Sammy has to be there!😆
Caught up with it recently and it's done well till now. :P
Yep, both of them are imperfections personified but i personally feel Myraa is a bit more judgemental. She's hasty in taking decisions and opinions and also very feisty. No complaints with Kabir though, he's doing his part good save a few things here and there (I take the liberty to overlook them)

Rightly pointed out the parallels but I also see some similarities in Myraa/Margarite & Kabir/Scarlet Pimpernel. Do give this a thought!
Hope this show doesn't crashes back on us like some of the last few experiences.

Great to see you again!🤗

Yup trust me to be watching all the good shows HEHE!😆
No idea who Margarite & Scarlet are but I'll check it out & get back to you on that!
I am not sure if you know but this show is a finite series of 157 episodes. They're in the last leg of shooting in Jaipur at the moment. They'll be wrapping up soon! So I'm pretty sure they won't disappoint.😊

Interesting comparison. Sam.

Myra is quite like Elizabeth with her prejudices. But Kabir is not Mr Darcy... and I mean that in a good way. You pretty much explained why.😊

There is a parallel in both the stories though.

I just started watching this show and I don't understand why myra is so uncivil with kabir always, what has he done? I agree with the person who said she is too fiesty, that too unnecessarily...so no,I don't see similarities between myra and elizabeth...elizabeth was never so rude..darcy started it with the whole "she is tolerable but not handsome enough" but still her behaviour towards darcy was way more civil than myrah's is towards kabir.
But I suppose those times and society wouldn't have allowed myrah kind of behaviour😆...like just imagine darcy asking "may I join you ladies" and elizabeth being all "no"😆...sir lucas would have been scandalized😆

Agree with you that she's very prejudiced & rude towards Kabir. Not trying to justify her here, but I think ever since she's met him, he's unsettled her with his presence, crushing her pride by calling her out for her anger or her prejudices & not to mention, her horror at ending up on his bed. All this goes against her rules & regulations I mean her values & what is proper according to her. I think it makes her even more irritated because there are undercurrents of attraction which she refuses to acknowledge (remember her dream of him at night & the subsequent nights when she thought of him) If you noticed when she as trying to explain to Nikhil about Kabir & Rhea she stopped herself from saying it out loud that he's a decent guy who means no harm.

^ I agree Sam.

Kabir has added it to her guilt with the 'I wish we had made love that night' note. She thought she buried the whole thing by returning to Jaipur, but now it is in her face.

Going by the precap, I guess we would see more of Myra's viewpoint today.

I am catching up on the episodes which I have missed out. But after watching the first 20 episodes, it definitely feels like the show is very loosely based on pride and prejudice. So came to the forum to check out whether that has been discussed. And bingo! I am not the only who felt that way🥱
Myra is definitely Lizzie in the sense that she is smart, witty but clearly prejudiced against Kabir. Her forming an opinion of Kabir in their very first meeting and not allowing that to change is quite Lizzie-like.

Kabir is not exactly Mr.Darcy with respect to 'pride'. But he does exhibit other characteristics of Mr. Darcy. Some of them are that he is rich and quite influential, he is well read, and also seems like well traveled.

There are also some other things which I felt were P&P inspired.
1. The Bennet family consisted of only one male member and Mr. Bennet did not quite have a say in the family matters. Most of the decisions were taken by Mrs. Bennet. Also they were a middle class family. In BKK too, the Kohli household is run by women. The middle class thing is debatable. But the Kohli's do suffer from financial constraints (at least up to the first 20 episodes. No idea whether it improves later on.)

2. When Myra meets Kabir in his hotel room and tells him what she thought happened in Mumbai, Kabir doesn't clarify things on the spot. He instead sends a handwritten letter to her stating his viewpoint. This is also very P&Pish where Lizzie and Mr.Darcy have their confrontation but Darcy clarifies his stance through a letter.

3. I don't think the character Rhea is inspired by Lydia. But she sometimes displays certain characteristics which reminds me of Lydia. She is a little self centered, clueless of how her actions are affecting her family, and behaves brazenly sometimes. But she is definitely much more mature than Lydia. Also, Sudha too resembles Mrs.Bennet sometimes when she wants her daughters to be married and happily settled.

Basically, I do get P&P feels from watching the show and maybe that is why I love BKK so much. Kabir is a sweetheart and such a gentleman. Myra can be too dense sometimes because of her prejudice but she is also relatable. The only thing I have a problem with is that in the episodes on which I am currently on, the focus is more on Rhea and Kabir's chemistry. Though I know that everything gets sorted out and Rhea goes back to Nikhil, I would have preferred if they had just not shown any kind of love connection between Rhea and Kabir. Other than that, it's amazing😳

I'm so glad that I'm not the only who gets major P&P feels from BKK.
Mrs Kohli is definitely a better version of Mrs Benett in the way she sees beyond marriage for her daughters & puts their happiness first. (though she's a little more conversative when it comes to Myra)

IMO all the other characters are slightly more sorted & modern versions of P&P. Rhea/Lydia, Abha/Jane, Mrs Kohli/Mrs Bennet, Akshay/Wickham, Sandy/Bingley, Myra/Elizabeth, Darcy/Kabir.. watch on & let me know what you think.

Rhea/Kabir speculations last only few episodes to fuel Myra's jealousy. They don't have anything going on at all. So don't worry.😃
