Part 1
"Shanaya! It's not working for me!" Haider declared finally, keeping his fork down.
"What? Your new job?" She asked him, eating a piece of steak from her plate.
"No. New job is great. I'm talking abt us." He replied, clasping his hands together. She looked up at him confused.
"I don't understand what are you talking about?" She spoke up aghast as she kept her fork and knife down as well.
"I don't think we can be together anymore." He told her, his voice flat. Shanaya looked rather stared at him as his words sinked in.
"Why?" Was all she managed to whisper.
"I don't know. I guess we have lost that spark! Both of us are so busy in our respective lives that we hardly get any time for each other. I have my job, you've got your caf. I don't think this is going to work." He tried to reason.
"Then we have to make it work. Haider, we can think of a way out." She replied, keeping her hand on his softly.
"Shanaya.. you don't understand." He started only to be cut in middle by her.
"Yes! I just don't get it why all of a sudden?! Sab kuch toh itna achha hai. We're going to get engaged next week." She spoke up, totally at sea as to why was saying this now when they are all set to get engaged after dating each other for good 5 years.
"Exactly my point! I don't want us to separate as bitter partners in near future. I'm just not feeling good abt all this." He snapped back as his patience began to give up.
"Really? After 5 years you've realised that?" Shanaya replied somewhat enraged.
"Look! Together we have spent some really good time and I intend to be friends with you even after all this. People grow apart and it's unfortunate! You just can't help it." He replied, his grey eyes staring straight in her coal black ones.
"Fine! All the best to you and I hope you've an amazing life ahead." She said while picking up her clutch from the table and walked out of the restaurant or should we say his life, without caring to look back at him even once.
Though she had expected him to stop her atleast but he didn't.
She walked down the busy lane of the Times Square NYC both furious and heartbroken at the same time. A tear left the confines of her coal black eyes and rolled down but she wiped it away fiercely. That man is not worthy enough to waste her tears on. A chilled breeze blew by making her shiver a little as she wrapped her arms around herself blinking away the tears that welled up her eyes again.
Maybe it was too easy for him to end everything that has ever happened between them in a flick of second, maybe those 5 years together didn't mattered to him anymore or is Lydia right? Is he interested in a rich brat working in his office?! Whatever! The truth is they've broken up! They've broken up a week before their engagement and three days before her 24th birthday to be specific.
Next day,
Shanaya measured the flour in measuring cup before adding it in a big mixing bowl along with two eggs, some baking powder, cocoa powder, sugar and a cube of butter. Taking a steel mixing wisp, she mixed the contents of the bowl aggressively while her younger sister Pari and best friend Lydia looked on worried.
"You know? This is 12th cake she is baking!" Pari whispered to Lydia, careful enough that Shan doesn't overhears.
"I feel like punching life out of that scumbag!" Lydia hissed angrily.
"Tell me when you do that, I'll give you a hand." Pari replied equally infuriated as she turned to look at Shan who was now doing dishes all over again. Just keep herself distracted, Shan was doing everything that wasn't needed. She cleaned the whole caf twice, baked 12 cakes, washed dishes twice, it's third now. Random dusting and vacuuming every once in a while was in the do to list as well.
"She needs a break!" Pari declared decisively, "We need to get her out of this place!"
"Yes! I've a plan!" Lydia agreed as she walked up to Shan.
"Babe! What's the plan for your b'day this time?" Lydia asked her cheerfully, hopping up on the slab just besides Shan.
"I've no plans." Shanaya replied, totally indifferent.
"Oh well I have! Let's go somewhere out and party." Lydia suggested only to earn a deadly glare from Shan.
"Not a bad idea!" Pari supported Lydia enthusiastically making Shan turn to look at her with WTH expressions.
"Let's go to Vegas! We'll get a male stripper for the night!" Pari proposed mischievously.
"Naah! I've heard that Miami is having some Annual Beach Fest which means lots of beach parties, liquor and hot men!" Lydia replied with a dreamy sigh!
"Oh really? Why don't you say you want to visit your Beach King, Matt?!" Pari replied, nudging Lydia teasingly making her grin sheepishly. Matt is her surfer boyfriend, Beach King as Lydia loves to call him. Two have been together for 8 months now and things progressing well between them.
"I broke up with my boyfriend of 5 years yesterday! Can you two please show some sympathy?" Shan spoke up irritated.
"Oh. My. God. Shanaya! That was terrible.." Lydia exclaimed dramatically, pretending sorrowful and sympathetic.
"Cool enough?!" She added, giving her a Stop-This-Nonsense look.
"It's not funny Ly!" Shan replied as tears glistened her gorgeous coal eyes.
"Yes! It's not funny, it's plain stupid Shan! Stop crying over a douchebag like him." Pari snapped back.
"Even if he turned out to be a douchebag doesn't changes the fact that I loved him! I loved him for 5 years, I had imagined my whole life with him Pari." Shan replied in a broken voice as a lone tear rolled down her cheek but she wiped it away.
"She's right Pari. We need to see it from her pov as well." Lydia agreed in a low voice as she hugged Shanaya tightly from a side, comforting her best friend.
"I'm sorry.. I should understand." Pari spoke up as she went ahead to hug her sister too and the three ladies indulged themselves in a warm, loving hug.
"But Shan, We're just trying to make it easy for you." Lydia tried again, getting out of the threesome hug.
"Yup! Get out of here, relax for a while, clear your mind and then start afresh!" Pari added giving her hand a loving squeeze.
"You think that'll work?" Shanaya asked them unsure.
"Of course! You need a break from all the chaos!" Pari replied smiling a little which Shan reciprocated back faintly.
"Now! Stop crying and tell us, Vegas or Miami?" Lydia popped up the question excitedly as she gently wiped away the tear from the corner of her eye.
Shanaya took in a deep breath to calm down herself and smiled at her friend, "Miami!"
"Miami!" Ibaad announced as he took a sip from his beer bottle.
"Sounds fun man!" Phil exclaimed excitedly, "What is it? A Victoria's Secret shoot like you did last year?" He guessed making Ibaad roll his eyes at his buddy.
"Nothing like that! There's some Annual Beach Fest there, I think! Gotta cover that." Ibaad told him laughing at the disappointed face Phil made.
"Now that's not-so-fun!" Phil replied unenthusiastic all of a sudden as he siped his whiskey much to Ibaad's laughter.
"I'm going to get myself another one! You want?" Ibaad spoke up, keeping the empty beer bottle away.
Phil shook his head dismissively as Ibaad got up and made his way through the crazy crowd dancing on the floor to bar counter. A couple of girls did tried to pull him for dance but he very skillfully escaped them.
Reaching up the counter, he ordered himself another beer bottle. A good bit away from where he stood waiting for his order, one could spot a group of girls gushing and sighing dramatically.
"Holy God! He's damn hot!" One of them exclaimed with a sigh.
"If he's so hot, imagine the firebox he must be in bed!" The blonde girl, exclaimed adjusting the neckline of her cleavage revealing dress.
"His girlfriend is so so lucky! Imagine the moaning when they would be in bed!" The third girl spoke up.
"I don't think, he has one. Otherwise, she might be by his side here!" Another brunette from their group suggested. Not just them, almost every girl in the club was checking out this hotmess. Were they to be blamed?
Not really! Coz the man did looked drop dead handsome in his sky blue jeans with a cool black T-shirt and brown leather jacket. He moved his fingers through his thick black hair as he picked up his beer bottle and turned around to leave when he saw those girls standing there in a corner. The blonde immediately pulled that plunging neckline of her golden sequined dress down, revealing a good bit of her cleavage making Ibaad look at her with disgust. He looked away horrified. In his life of 30 years, he has completely failed to understand why do some women love to objectify their feminity? It's something to be proud of and not to showcase and sell like that!
Phil who was watching all this couldn't help but be amused at Ibaad's antics. Had there been any other man in his place, he would've been all over her by now but Ibaad was as indifferent as he is always! Ibaad came to sit down while Phil still had that surprised look on his face. Ibaad wriggled his eyebrows at him, "What's wrong?" Ibaad asked him, gulping down a good bit of beer.
"What are you made up of? I mean you grab so much of female attention and yet you don't give a damn!" Phil spoke up amused.
Ibaad laughed, "Well.. they need to grab my attention too for giving a damn about them. Their botox lips and swollen ass are not enough!" He replied winking at him.
"What kind of girl do you want?" Phil asked, intrigued coz his friend was certainly out of the league.
Ibaad looked at him and smiled briefly, "A girl whom I don't have to think twice before kissing!"
Phil raised his eyebrows, "High standards!" He remarked sarcastically.
"Very high!" Ibaad agreed smiling too.
Miami
Shanaya turned the page of her new murder mystery novel completely engrossed in it. She grabbed this paperback from airport when they were waiting for boarding to kill her time and ever since, she's glued to it. Turning to her side, Shanaya picked up the tall glass with cute blue-green umbrella and took a sip of her refreshing cucumber drink.
"Come on Shan! Leave that book already!" Lydia spoke up making Shanaya look up from her book as her eyes took her form clad in orange beachwear. Orange complimented well with her mildly tanned skin and that slim figure. Lydia sat down on the pool chair just besides her.
"You look hot!" Shan winked at her earning a chuckle from her as she waved her hand dismissively.
"Beach King needs to safeguard his queen!" Matt spoke up from behind making both of them turn to look at him.
"Matt!" Lydia squealed happily as she went ahead to hug him as the duo kissed and Shanaya looked away, not snooping their private couple moment.
She could feel a strange gloominess engulfing her. Until two days back, she too had a boyfriend, now she doesn't and that made her very sad. To distract herself from the gloomy thoughts, she turned her attention back to her book.
Matt left a little later and Lydia decided to sunbath for a while before going for a swim. Pari too joined them as she settled down on a chair on the other side of Shan.
"Oh. My. Goodness!" Pari exclaimed as she pushed her sunglasses on the top of her head to have a better look at the hotness getting out of the pool.
In his blue swimming pants, Ibaad stepped out of the pool after a good fulfilling swim. He moved his fingers through his wet hair as he shaked his head a little and crystal like water droplets scattered in every direction. That bare iron crafted chest and those broad shoulders lined with water were a huge threat to all the ovaries by the poolside. He wasn't like those waxed male models types yet a thousand times more sexier than them. Thin streams that trickled down his bulgy biceps and milky expanse of his back made the females loose their sanity. A majestic dragon that was spread just on his chest was sexy sight to behold.
Ibaad looked around himself when his walnut orbs caught sight of a girl in a cute pink and white beach tunic with her hot pink beachwear peeping from inside. Almost every pair of eyes were transfixed at him except one. Shanaya!
Oblivious to the massacre happening around herself, she was too lost in the ongoing interrogation of a suspect of the murder in her novel. He couldn't help but smile a little looking at her. Dunno what it was? But something certainly clicked the moment he saw her. Pari and Lydia immediately nudged her to look at him but when she did, he had disappeared.
"What?" Shanaya asked them confused as she was being served with some deadly, envious, vicious glares by all the girls around the poolside.
"You just missed Tabahi!" Pari sighed dreamily.
"Whatever!" Shan mumbled under her breath as she buried herself in her book again.
Later in the evening..
Shanaya stirred her peach and strawberry cocktail before taking a sip. It had a surprising tinge was lemon as well which Shanaya loved. She glanced around the beach party area as she could spot Matt Lydia burning the dance floor with their sizzling dance moves and kisses. Pari too was there in a corner with a guy, laughing at something he just told her and she seemed to be enjoying with that handsome man. Pari caught her looking at her as she wriggled her eyebrows asking her if she should come but Shanaya simply smiled and blew her a sweet flying kiss, telling her to enjoy herself.
Almost everybody was enjoying but her. She wanted to have fun too but couldn't. Dunno what stopped her but something just didn't felt right about all this!
She knew this was stupid, plain stupid to cry over that man but she just couldn't help but feel bad abt herself.
Just when, "A stunning woman like you doesn't deserves to be drinking down alone!" She heard a man speak up from her behind huskily.
To be continued..
