are acting schools effective?

we have huge variety of actors ..some good..some bad..some brilliant..some pathetic..

some have studied acting..some have never

but my question is..are these acting schools really effective..can one actually become a better actor by attending them or is acting one of those rare things which can never be taught..you either have it in you or you don't

it depends on the person..

Going to acting school always helps, but it is the person that has to show it in his acting..

I also feel acting is something that people can either be innately good or bad or selectively good/bad (or some gradually improve with maturity in life), irrespective of academic exposure.

But knowledge/experience/training never goes waste.. depends on the person ultimately, how he makes use of academic knowledge, his own temperament/sensitvity, his creativity, his own vitality, his journey in life, the experiences in his real life and so on.. lot of factors shape an actor, rather, should i say, keep shaping an actor.

one can learn the technicalities of the craft but that does'nt make one a bad or good actor... i think good actor can become a better by attending these schools but a non-actor can never become an actor i dont think any acting school can make jackie,nargis,katty act

There are advantages of attending acting school --

- They teach you about different stuff, techniques, they tell you beforehand the meaning of different gestures, intonations, the impacts on the viewer, what is expected, do's/dont's, and plenty of other things we are unaware of.

- I think you get to study acting, how it was done in a certain movie - kinda like case studies.

- PRACTICE. They perform, recieve feedback, watch and observe their colleagues, seniors, receive demos, keep practicing. You get to practice/experiment with the aim to improve - even if you fail here, it wouldn't cause any loss. Practice makes man perfect. One gains confidence.

Spending 1-2 years on something is definitely worth it, especially when the environment surrounding you would be conducive for your own development.

^^^ an innately good actor will polish on his 'craft' a lot, and a man poor at acting learns, or atleast carries something with him.. because everything was laid out for you - all you have to do is imbibe it, utilise it and keep developing on it...

That being said, acting school is not necessary, just has the aforementioned advantages... in the end, a person who has desire to learn, learns wherever he is/goes.
