Last week we had a party/remix/disco special with Akbar Sami. And then there was Romance special for Valentine's day. The week before that was Folk songs special.

I think there a plenty more genres that the contestants could tap into.

I would love to see a Classical special. Or even just raga based songs, if not purely classical.

Also some specials on music directors would be fun - like an RD special. Or O.P Nayyar/Madan Mohan/ S.D Burman. I would love a Shammi Kapoor/Raj Kapoor/Dev Anand/ Guru Dutt special. Their songs are sooo amazing!

Sahir Ludhianvi's b'day is coming up in March, he wrote some mind-blowing songs. Would be great to have a Sahir special.

I would also love to have an era special - like a 50s, 60s or 70s tribute.

A comic songs special would be fun too. I can come up with several Kishore Kumar/Johnny Walker songs that would fit!

A Mujra/Qawwali special would be great too.

Just watched Nithyashree in Indian Idol Jr singing "Eena meena deeka" and just had to add rock 'n' roll special. It would be so foot-tappingly fun!!

What would be your choice of genres or specials?

There has never been a classical round in Indian Idol, atleast as I remember. But I'd love to see how Mohit could sing classical in high pitch and Kudha with folk flavor and the rest. I'd hence prefer a classical or semi-classical round.

Secondly, melodies of 60s and 70s. Most of these songs are raga based and it'd be fun listening those songs in different voice textures.

I'd also go for a rock and roll round. Songs of Kishorkumar and Shammi Kapoor would fit in this round too.

I was bummed there was no republic day special. I really enjoy listening to patriotic songs.

Some specials I'd like -

Ghazal special
Semi classical (not everyone would appreciate classical)
A black and white special ( sings from black and white movies)
A round where everyone sings in a language they don't know (they'll have extremely low trps though)
Qawwali

Republic day was the perfect opportunity to have patriotic songs, wonder why they missed out on that one.

Agree, the different language one may not work. Item songs is something I can do without..not a fan. But I don't mind cabaret songs from the Helen era 😳.

It would be great if Sonu Nigam went up there and sang duets with each contestant (preferably Rafi duets, since he worships Rafi anyway). Or perhaps they could have a guest star to sing duets, like they did with Armaan Malik in Indian Idol Jr.

Just found out its Talat Mahmood's birthday on Feb 24th. Would be great if they had a Talat special, he's sung some amazing ghazals and also semi-classical numbers. Sigh!🤢 This will only happen in my dreams, I guess

They will continue to do what they believe sells.

This years format is completely messed up...no direction whatsoever.
Apart from the themes mentioned above I'd like to see a round where judges select songs.
Ar Rahman special would be good too.
On another note, how come no celebrities r coming?? Tho I'm not in favour of promotions on shows, but atleast it will spare us from family drama.

I want a classical or semi classical round,lots of golden oldies episodes(so many genius music directors to singers that one episode wouldn't be sufficient ),rd burman episode and ghazal episodes(jagjit,ghulam ali,talat mehmood fantastic numbers ) too..

idol missed out on a patriotic songs episode opportunity,i would have loved to see someone attempt lataji's vandey mataram,manna dey's 'ai,mere pyare watan'...

And there should be a 2 song episode where judges suggest a song as a challenge to contestant followed by one where the singer can choose anything (any language or musical arrangements )they like to showoff their potential as a musician...

i really doubt anyone else singing 'jalthe hain jiske liye'⭐️ would have the same velvety soft impact..such a beautiful song and i still remember sunildutt softly singing it on phone...

Sunil Dutt's handsome face and Talat Mahmood's smooth as velvet voice, S.D Burman's music and lyrics by Majrooh!! Just perfect! ⭐️

And you're right, no one else would be able to do justice. Its better if they don't try.
