Today, I caught up on the 15 episodes of Ishqbaaaz that I missed when I was sick + away +busy and I honestly don't know how I feel about this memory loss track.

When the promo first came out, I was super excited. As cliched as it is, memory loss is a great opportunity to showcase some good old angst, and bittersweet romance. And I hoped that this time, the romance would be more heartfelt. We all enjoy the sensual scenes, and the cute flirting, but I feel like the romance is getting a bit superficial now. That could just be me, I have no idea.

I got so hyped for this track that I started writing a memory loss story, one that was super angsty, and if the track were to go the way I hoped it would, I would have actually posted it! Trust me when I say, I had envisioned this whole track to be so much more than what we've actually gotten.

This track was more for Shivaay, than for Annika. We've already seen her introspection on her relationship with Shivaay, and we know how she feels. On the other hand, Shivaay has probably even acknowledged that he feels for her, and yet, refuses to come to terms with it. Thus, all of us have been waiting, from Episode 60, for the goddamn man to tell us, her, or anyone about how he feels!
The memory loss track would have been a perfect entry into his thought process. The tagline in the promo had me even more excited, 'What would you do, if the person closest to you, suddenly loses all of their memories of you?" I was so prepared to watch Shivaay's anguish (Nakuul Mehta is a heartbreaking crier, also!) and also, the way that everyone else in the family deals with it. The fact that RumYa were in the promo was even more telling, but apparently not.

As cute as I find Kumari Kalavati Thakur, this track did a really 180 from what I thought it was going to be. It's completely comedy, and I can't take anything seriously at all. If she's actually lost her memory, than I honestly think that this was a track completely wasted. And if it's a plan, then I find that extremely contrived.

It makes me upset, because Annika, while embittered by the world and its cruelty, had always been a pure character. So for her to be so seamlessly manoeuvring a fake memory loss, doesn't bode well with me. It's borderline manipulative, and even though she has good intentions (and will eventually get Tia out of OM, according to TOI), I'm scared that Shivaay will not think so.

In front of the grateful family, he may be happy. Hell, even in front of Annika, I think that he'll attempt to be thankful. And yet, I fear that when he finally breaks, she's going to have to bear the brunt of what he will see as a betrayal of sorts. He's going to be majorly cut, when he realises that she didn't tell him about her plan. He might even feel like a fool; to have subconsciously invested so much in a woman who couldn't trust him.

Nevermind that she was trying to protect him, and help them all, but Shivaay is going to be really hurt when he realises that this time, he wasn't the Great Wall.

I want Annika to throw it all back in his face then. Tell him that whatever she did, was because of the family. I would love to see that whole scene again, the one that we saw from their first few days of marriage. The scene where Annika tells Shivaay that the only reason she patched things up between the Obros, is because she cared about the family. We all remember how cut Shivaay was in that whole scene.

Hopefully something along the lines of this will happen. Even during what he believes is her memory loss, he can't tell her that she's his wife. Annika pauses, everytime he is about to, and Kalavati takes a standstill. Because she hopes; maybe this time, even unknowingly, he will call her his wife. You know, I think that that is what is giving Annika the real strength to do this whole charade. The fact that she thinks that this wedding means nothing to him, so he won't be hurt. Even though he is blatantly giving signs that he isn't coping with the loss of Annika, she isn't relenting. Even though she is blatantly giving him signs, to tell him that she is still Annika, and not Kalavati, he isn't comprehending.

Essentially, both characters still have a long way to go. They may be in love, but neither still completely understand each other. She needs to give him time, and he needs to pick up his slack, and address all the problems at hand.

Hopefully, the aftermath of the memory loss track will bring them one step closer to finding what they need.

Love your post. Lovely analysis on the ML track and also of Shivaay's reaction and Anika's continued Kalavati act.

Wish we would get a peek into SSO's mind about missing Anika his wife... what he feels... not much guilt as he is too busy dealing with her ML... I mean the man... is not cut up...whereas Anika was cut up when he was shot and took a bullet meant for her. She cried buckets... and he is not even..expressing that to himself or to anyone else.

it is for the family and also to find out where she stands in this marriage. Does he want her in his life, is he willing to call her his wife, is he willing to take on the world for her? I think these and more Anika wants to know from Shivaay. If his thought process still is the same and thinks NKK then she is going to leave at the end of it. If the man can't say it, then what is the point of being in this marriage. He did come back for her when she was not at OM after the Lohri scene.. but did he give her a real reason?

SC needs to go on a vacation and then we can see Billu's tadap and looking for her high and low... HE is not going to like it one bit if he finds out that she was faking the whole thing and did not include him in the plan. He is going to rant.. and then maybe share a smile at the end. 😃 Love the Kalavati avatar of Anika and giving him good at every chance.

Hi Innika .. Hope you're all better now.

You know when you hear a good joke and you appreciate it, and then the joke goes on and on, and it stops being funny? Yeah, that's what I feel.

I appreciated the trolling and Annika's wacky duplicity, but it's getting frustrating. Earlier it seemed like she had a good plan, but now she's off on her own tangent and dubious effectiveness.

Hiding Svetlana in Shivaay's closet was just🤢 .. Maybe it was to gain a foothold with NBs , as Svetlana herself mocked Shivaay saying she has his Queen.

But what is she doing? Going through Tia's purse, finding D for Dushyant, then sleepwalking out to find him? It better work!

I'm tired of Shivaay looking incompetent. He keeps saying "main sab theek kardunga" and nothing to that effect happened. He is busy thinking of random lightweight moments to jog Annika's memory instead.

Let's face it. He was like a monster to her for the most part. Now he takes pains to show all those memories in a euphemistic manner, like he was not the bad guy in her life. Of course she won't remember anything.

..Shivaay is far from sad. He is just imperiously demanding the return of her memories, like it's a darn inconvenience to him. It would serve him right to be conned even longer. It annoys me that he can still remain aloof and refuse to acknowledge she is his wife.

She keeps rubbing it in her face , over and over. "Aap Pati Parmeshwar hai" and he says,"Haan, toh?" Like it's a thing to be taken for granted.

Any normal person with memory loss would've walked out when this man started waving a knife at her. But she is on a mission, so she stays.

Sure, Shivaay will be mad, when he finds out she was faking it. VERY mad. Why? Because he was a veritable mess inside, losing her . But he never showed it, not to her. The woman can't remember, for goodness sake, and he couldn't say she is his wife ! Such an Ego.

If he gets furious at her, she can turn and say " Why don't you understand? Whatever I'm doing, or did, is for you?"

That was the last thing she said before she fell off the bannister, if you recall.

So I don't really comment on forums just because I usually have no clear idea of whats going on, but with this one I'm hoping against hope that I have actually been following whats going on.

It seems as if the Bro-mance of Om, Rudra, and Shivaay has taken a little break. Instead of working together, they're all working toward the same goal from different angles and not keeping each other informed. Rudra (the admitted Cry-Baby) is working with Anika, Shivaay and Om have taken their own paths to getting Tia and Svatlana out of the house (out of their lives). Anika's deception wouldn't be effective if Shivaay was aware of what is going on and in the moment getting him more wrapped up in his feels is just a means of getting him out of the way. It's a bonus for Anika if she makes him revisit his own "marriage is a deal" philosophy by having to actually say/show how he feels about her.

I admit I haven't watched the show from the beginning but he (Shivaay) hasn't been very nice to her and he really seems to be taking her not remembering him and all their "good times" together as a personal affront. Will he be mad if and when it comes out that it was all a set up? I would think so but I would also think that the only honesty that he has shown her has been in and through his anger.

Like I said I'm never really all that clear on what's happening.

i totally agree.Nice post Innika.I thought with this ML track we will get to see Shivaay's angst,his restlessness about he lost his Anika...but CVS are taking it very funny way...we know old is gold and we have got recreation of many their old scenes...but CVS should show the inner thoughts of Shivaay...after each recreation scene...that how can she not remember him..also He should just say it..She is his wife...but CVS making long way for Shivaay to go!
I think this track will end after Tia's truth out in a week or two.We enjoyed till Naagin dance...after that spark is less...bcz of not showing inner thoughts...hope CVS will work on this.
Even I am thinking when Shivaay will know its a plan of AniRu what will be his reaction. And from yesterday's pool scene sometimes i feel even Shivaay is involved in this plan but upcoming sleep walk scene again making me think...why is he angry on servants ?

hope this ML track will give some realisation for Shivaay...sigh.

I think ML is plan of AniRu and shivaay also. So angst yeh sab nahi hoga. Also treatment in IB has always been funny and illogical only. If it was real ML, we would have got something atleast.

And they never show what shivaay really thinks and is left to imagination. While i think he is over his NKK while others think its there and he will even marry some other girl.😆 I mean leaving so much to interpretation only as the viewers mindset. I guess CVs are keeping their options open by not making him introspect. If he did introspect, things will clear and CVs will have to show either shivaay accepting anika in which case story will not be much for them or show separation or something which CVs don't seem to afford.

There is a movie named 'The Vow' It has Rachel MacAdams & Channing Tatum. MacAdams character loses memory & her husband(Tatum) puts efforts to bring it back. And that is what I first thought of when I heard about this ML track. Not as much as the movie but I expected to see Shivaay in half as much as the pain I saw Tatum in that movie.
I have to admit that I did find the episodes funny, they were great but the desperation in Shivaay's behaviour to bring her memory back is lacking. It feels like he wants her memory back bcoz she is helping the enemies which is not helping his schemes. It never felt he wants her memory back bcoz he cannot bear her indifference or she forgetting him or not feeling the way she use to feel about him. Mind well NM & SC do their best, I feel there something lacking in the material they are given.
I don't expect any introspection on his part or even guilt. I have stopped doing that after the whole Daksh madness. He will never really drown himself in guilt no matter what he does.
About Anika's plan, I feel she did this bcoz she feels he will never truely suspect Tia & antagonise her. Somewhere he will still have the doubt that Tia cannot be bad. So she decided to exclude him from the plan. Secondly lesser the people lesser the problems.
He is going to get angry. I just hope that makes him realise that Anika doesn't blindly trust him anymore. I hope he realise that it is bcoz of the stuff he has done to her. And finally he retrospects on it!

Word. Even though I am not pinging any hopes for introspection from Shivay but I hope Anika gives him some reality check over keeping him in dark about her plans to expose Tia. Shivay has always been dismissive about Anika doubts on Tia and even though he suspects her in video leak fiasco, he was fine with giving into her demand for opening a trust for the unborn baby?...So Anika chose a dependable person - Rudra over Shivay to trap Tia and dig her connection with Svetlana. Its so telling that even though she loves shivay selflessly, he is not the go-to guy in certain scheme of events !

This ml track is awesome, we got relief from saas bahu crap, the only problem I have with ml n previous track is the outcome is nullified, shivay nkk believes R as strong as first episode, near death experience of Anika , ml track, her sacrifices, nothing effected him, now ofcourse one day they will show shivay realisation but iam afraid it will look fake, they tried every possible reasons for him to realise it, n yet he behave same , n when he will realise I will be like come on it happened previously also n that time u didn't realised it why now, we need some self talk scenes from shivay to know where he stands in this relationship😆

You have reflected so much of what I feel regarding this track.
Yes, its cute no doubt. BUT there are so many things lacking.

The first thing I am very disappointed is Shivaay's guilt. HE PUSHED HER! Nevermind the plans (hell maybe Anika actually jumped herself!) cause he doesnt know about them. Where is Shivaay sitting down and thinking , really thinking, about what he has done and reflect on the consequence of it. Not even a single monologue on it.

Another thing I feel let down by has already been worded perfectly by you so I wont be repeating it but just second you on it all. Especially this;

It could have led to a realization of sorts for Shivaay. It should have been like 'Why does it bother me that she doesnt remember me? OUR moments - the glances shared, the takkar, the emotions, the conversations...'
Imo, Shivaay fell for Anika long before she did, so the man is freaking late. They could have added the comedy scenes here and there no problem. But seriously, according to me, they lost a golden opportunity to show a progression in their relationship.

About Anika not letting Shivaay in on the plan.. I honestly did not think of it the way you do. For me, I feel like there are sane reasons why she could have chosen to do so. And tbh, I feel like through this act, Anika now has a genuine excuse to find out what Shivaay feels and think about her. His multiple attempts at keeping her close and reminding her of her past are just subtle hints.
If only they'd add the angst and emotions needed from Shivaay. *sigh*

Wonderful post though. I wouldnt ever have been able to express it like you have. Glad to see someone resonating these thoughts.
