CHAPTER 26. THE CLIMAX
Maan strode into Khurana Mansion head held high. His strides long, his anger at its peak, Maan Singh Khurana looked like bat out of hell. The servants took one look at him and scrambled away.
"Marry Viren she says!", Maan growled as he threw himself on the sofa, "Go ahead! Marry him! I don't give a damn! Marry Viren or not is not my concern she says!", He sat up straight, "Ha! It is definitely not my concern! Let her marry anybody she wants. Marry Viren for all I care! Marry him! But I bet you will be unhappy with him!"
Maan stood up and started to pace, "I bet you Geet! I bet you that you will be never happy with him! Never happy I say! Because he will never challenge you the way I do! He will never fight with you the way I do! Marry Viren she says! Go ahead! Go ahead Geet, I bet you will come back to me in a year. Yes Geet! In a year! You will come back. Begging. Sobbing. Asking me to help you. But gaah! I won't help you! Do what you want! Beg, plead, grovel, I don't care!" He threw himself back on the sofa and glared at a distance.
Just then Maan's eyes fell on the TV remote kept on the coffee table with a paper attached to it. He snatched the paper and frowned at what was written on it. The message was from Dev, "Bro! I am going to meet Annie. Leaving you with some food for thought. Check it out! Ciao!"
Maan was still frowning when he switched on the TV. He took in a sharp breath as Geet's face loomed on the screen. Maan's eyes widened. It must be the video recordings of Geet's trainings! Bah! I don't want to see her! He raised the remote to shut the TV but found that he couldn't. Just then Geet giggled on the screen and Maan couldn't look away. Dev seemed to be teasing Geet and Geet was laughing. Involuntarily Maan smiled. Her happiness was contagious. His hand dropped down and he kept the remote on the table as he watched Geet wear the heels. He felt his heart beat quicken as he saw her long legs. His mind went back to the bathroom incident. Two spots of red formed on his cheeks as the memory evoked strong emotions out of him. Next was about Geet arguing with him about Chandu Ke Chacha and She sells Seashells! He let out a loud laugh at her words. Oh Geet! Only you!
"Oh Geet! I will miss you! I will miss you so much!", Maan didn't even realise that he was speaking loudly. He smiled as on the screen Geet danced with Maan. He remembered the almost kiss and slowly his mind turned to all those moments he spent with Geet. "I will miss that girl!", Maan again started to speak out loud without realising it, "I will miss her Punjabi gaalis, her prancing around, her habit of crooning songs", his mind turned to the time when he saw her dance on the bed, "I will miss her dancing on the bed too. I will miss her cooking, her retorts, her laughter, her giggling." He stood up in surprise, "Its been barely a day and I already miss her totally. I am used to seeing her face in early morning, used to having her hover around to make sure I ate, I have gotten used to her face, her voice, her presence. I was independent before her. But now I am totally dependent on her." Maan continued to be in shock as he carded his fingers through his hair in confusion, "I cannot breathe without her. I cannot survive without her."
Maan sat down with his head in his hands, "What am I to do without you Geet? What am I to do?" Just then Maan felt a hand gently land on his shoulder. He looked up in duress only for his eyes to widen, "Geet!", he whispered.
Geet smiled at him.
Maan couldn't believe she was here, "But... how? You...? Weren't you...? I mean... You had left me!", Maan gasped out. Geet smiled softly, "I came to get my things while others were out!", she pointed to the bag lying by her feet, "But then I heard what you said and I just couldn't leave!" Maan's eyes widened and he realised this was his chance. His chance to have Geet back in his life.
Geet could only look in shock as Maan suddenly went down on his knees, grabbed her hands in both of his and started to plead with her, "Please Geet! Don't leave me! I cannot survive without you. I can survive without my business, my fame, my life, but not you! Please Geet! Please don't leave me!"
A tear trickled from Geet's eyes and down her cheek at Maan's sweet words. He was changing! She could see it. The man who never bowed down in front of anybody was today on his knees in front of her. He had left behind his ego for their love. What else did she want? Geet felt hope bloom in her heart. If he can let go of his ego just for her, he will respect her and her opinions too, right? With a wide grin on her face, Geet replied, "Yes Maan! I won't leave you!" Maan's pleading expression turned into happiness as he stood up and hugged Geet tightly. Geet also hugged him back just as tight.
"I love you Geet", Maan whispered and Geet pulled back to look at him in shock. Maan gave her a soft smile, "Haan Geet! I love you!" She let out a laugh and pulled him back into her arms, "I love you too Maan!", her soft voice echoed in the room. Maan felt his heart skip a beat and he pulled Geet closer. For few minutes, both remained in each other's arms and then Maan slowly pulled away and cupped Geet's face in his hands. He placed a kiss on her forehead and Geet looked at him with nothing but pure love in her eyes.
Suddenly Maan was filled with excitement. He grabbed her hand and started to drag her with him, "Chalo!"
"Where?", Geet asked as she laughed at Maan's enthusiasm. Maan dragged her towards the door, "Daadima ke paas!", Maan huffed.
Geet couldn't stop herself from teasing him, "English Maan!", her voice held a mischievous tilt.
Maan did not reply. He simply threw her a glare and continued to drag her away. Geet dug her heels and Maan was jerked back. He turned around and saw Geet refusing to move.
"Geet! Lets go!", Maan whined.
Geet frowned, "No! Unless and until you tell me why we are going I am not moving!", there was amusement in her voice.
Maan closed his eyes trying to calm himself down and then he turned to her with a wide smile on his face, "We are going to meet Daadima so that she can get us married ASAP!"
Geet's eyes widened and she chuckled, "Oh ho! You seemed to be in so much hurry!"
Maan huffed, "Of course I am in hurry. Come on! Lets go! I want to get married next month! I have a meeting out of country next month and I want to take you with me."
He continued to drag her. Geet was surprised at his answer and allowed him to drag her for few seconds before she dug her heels again. She looked at Maan in shock. He is serious. He is not kidding. He does want to get married next month!
"Maan! You have yet to propose to me you know!", Geet commented.
Maan rolled his eyes, "Arre! Whats the need for proposal? I love you! You love me! Matter ends!"
Geet was now alarmed but Maan simply ignored her and continued to talk, "I have decided Geet! We will have a simple wedding. I hate the frivolities, you see. We will go to honeymoon in Mauritius. I heard it is best for couples. And then...", Maan continued to speak.
Geet could only watch with jaw dropped open as Maan continued to plan their whole future. She stumbled back a little. He had still not changed. He may have kept his ego aside to plead her not to leave him but he still didn't respect her! He was making decisions without consulting her. He even forgot her dreams in process. She took a deep breath as she made a shocking decision.
Maan was still rambling about their future together when Geet suddenly wrenched her hand away from Maan's grip. Maan looked at her with confusion but Geet had a blank expression on her face. She came to stand in front of him and spoke, "I was wrong. I thought if you kept your ego aside to plead in front of me, you thought of me as your equal. I thought from now on you will respect me. But I was wrong. I am still a waitress for you. I am sorry Maan but this relationship won't work!"
Maan simply blinked, "Geet...", he whispered suddenly feeling as if he was thrown right into the middle of the sea.
Geet smiled knowingly, "You don't care about my dreams Maan. And I am not sure you ever will. You don't understand me. You fell for me, but never thought about what I want. I am sorry Maan. But such a relationship has no future. Without mutual respect, a relationship will turn bitter. Love is not enough Maan."
Geet turned to walk away just as Maan came out of his stupor. He grabbed her hand and turned her around roughly. Geet spun around in surprise. Maan grabbed her by her arms and pulled her close, his eyes glaring at her.
"What rubbish are you talking about? How dare you think of leaving me!", he hissed.
Geet lost her cool. She pushed him away and before he knew it, she was shouting at him, "Enough Maan enough! Enough about you!" She threw her hands into the air, "Why is everything for you, about you Maan?"
Maan looked baffled so Geet began to explain, "You love me, so obviously you should marry me. Who cares whether I love you or not! You want to marry next month so we will get married next month. Who cares if I want to get married so soon or not! Who cares Maan!" She looked at him with accusation in her eyes, "I have dreams too Maan! But you didn't take a single second to think about how you will help me fulfil it despite me having repeatedly tell you what my dreams are! You! You! Its always you to you! And why is that?"
Geet shook her head, "You never behave like this with Daadima, Dev or Annie! You listen to their thoughts, their opinions, their decisions, but when it comes to me you take me for granted. Why Maan? Just because I am a middle class girl? I am sorry Maan! But I cannot be in a relationship with a person who doesn't even consider me worth asking opinions!" Geet starting shaking her head as tears fell down her cheeks.
"What are you trying to say Geet?", Maan's voice was harsh whisper as he looked at her aghast.
Geet wiped her tears and looked at him with determination, "Maan! What I am trying to say is that you can give me love, but as long as you think of me as a waitress you can never give me happiness! I will be left with nothing but tears and I am not a doormat who would accept it. I am sorry Maan! But when it comes down to my dignity and your love, I chose my dignity!"
Geet raised her head high and looked at Maan with pride, "Between me and you, I chose me!" With that, she turned around and walked away from the house and away from Maan's life forever.
Maan stood there for almost 10 minutes before his legs buckled and he fell down on his knees.
Did you expect that end? In the movie, the girl comes back quietly and the guy continues to show attitude to her. So of course, I didn't like that ending. I had to change it. But don't worry. MG will be back together. Just check the next update!
Thank you, take care and have fun,
