CHAPTER 26. THE CLIMAX

Maan strode into Khurana Mansion head held high. His strides long, his anger at its peak, Maan Singh Khurana looked like bat out of hell. The servants took one look at him and scrambled away.

"Marry Viren she says!", Maan growled as he threw himself on the sofa, "Go ahead! Marry him! I don't give a damn! Marry Viren or not is not my concern she says!", He sat up straight, "Ha! It is definitely not my concern! Let her marry anybody she wants. Marry Viren for all I care! Marry him! But I bet you will be unhappy with him!"

Maan stood up and started to pace, "I bet you Geet! I bet you that you will be never happy with him! Never happy I say! Because he will never challenge you the way I do! He will never fight with you the way I do! Marry Viren she says! Go ahead! Go ahead Geet, I bet you will come back to me in a year. Yes Geet! In a year! You will come back. Begging. Sobbing. Asking me to help you. But gaah! I won't help you! Do what you want! Beg, plead, grovel, I don't care!" He threw himself back on the sofa and glared at a distance.

Just then Maan's eyes fell on the TV remote kept on the coffee table with a paper attached to it. He snatched the paper and frowned at what was written on it. The message was from Dev, "Bro! I am going to meet Annie. Leaving you with some food for thought. Check it out! Ciao!"

Maan was still frowning when he switched on the TV. He took in a sharp breath as Geet's face loomed on the screen. Maan's eyes widened. It must be the video recordings of Geet's trainings! Bah! I don't want to see her! He raised the remote to shut the TV but found that he couldn't. Just then Geet giggled on the screen and Maan couldn't look away. Dev seemed to be teasing Geet and Geet was laughing. Involuntarily Maan smiled. Her happiness was contagious. His hand dropped down and he kept the remote on the table as he watched Geet wear the heels. He felt his heart beat quicken as he saw her long legs. His mind went back to the bathroom incident. Two spots of red formed on his cheeks as the memory evoked strong emotions out of him. Next was about Geet arguing with him about Chandu Ke Chacha and She sells Seashells! He let out a loud laugh at her words. Oh Geet! Only you!

"Oh Geet! I will miss you! I will miss you so much!", Maan didn't even realise that he was speaking loudly. He smiled as on the screen Geet danced with Maan. He remembered the almost kiss and slowly his mind turned to all those moments he spent with Geet. "I will miss that girl!", Maan again started to speak out loud without realising it, "I will miss her Punjabi gaalis, her prancing around, her habit of crooning songs", his mind turned to the time when he saw her dance on the bed, "I will miss her dancing on the bed too. I will miss her cooking, her retorts, her laughter, her giggling." He stood up in surprise, "Its been barely a day and I already miss her totally. I am used to seeing her face in early morning, used to having her hover around to make sure I ate, I have gotten used to her face, her voice, her presence. I was independent before her. But now I am totally dependent on her." Maan continued to be in shock as he carded his fingers through his hair in confusion, "I cannot breathe without her. I cannot survive without her."

Maan sat down with his head in his hands, "What am I to do without you Geet? What am I to do?" Just then Maan felt a hand gently land on his shoulder. He looked up in duress only for his eyes to widen, "Geet!", he whispered.

Geet smiled at him.

Maan couldn't believe she was here, "But... how? You...? Weren't you...? I mean... You had left me!", Maan gasped out. Geet smiled softly, "I came to get my things while others were out!", she pointed to the bag lying by her feet, "But then I heard what you said and I just couldn't leave!" Maan's eyes widened and he realised this was his chance. His chance to have Geet back in his life.

Geet could only look in shock as Maan suddenly went down on his knees, grabbed her hands in both of his and started to plead with her, "Please Geet! Don't leave me! I cannot survive without you. I can survive without my business, my fame, my life, but not you! Please Geet! Please don't leave me!"

A tear trickled from Geet's eyes and down her cheek at Maan's sweet words. He was changing! She could see it. The man who never bowed down in front of anybody was today on his knees in front of her. He had left behind his ego for their love. What else did she want? Geet felt hope bloom in her heart. If he can let go of his ego just for her, he will respect her and her opinions too, right? With a wide grin on her face, Geet replied, "Yes Maan! I won't leave you!" Maan's pleading expression turned into happiness as he stood up and hugged Geet tightly. Geet also hugged him back just as tight.

"I love you Geet", Maan whispered and Geet pulled back to look at him in shock. Maan gave her a soft smile, "Haan Geet! I love you!" She let out a laugh and pulled him back into her arms, "I love you too Maan!", her soft voice echoed in the room. Maan felt his heart skip a beat and he pulled Geet closer. For few minutes, both remained in each other's arms and then Maan slowly pulled away and cupped Geet's face in his hands. He placed a kiss on her forehead and Geet looked at him with nothing but pure love in her eyes.

Suddenly Maan was filled with excitement. He grabbed her hand and started to drag her with him, "Chalo!"

"Where?", Geet asked as she laughed at Maan's enthusiasm. Maan dragged her towards the door, "Daadima ke paas!", Maan huffed.

Geet couldn't stop herself from teasing him, "English Maan!", her voice held a mischievous tilt.

Maan did not reply. He simply threw her a glare and continued to drag her away. Geet dug her heels and Maan was jerked back. He turned around and saw Geet refusing to move.

"Geet! Lets go!", Maan whined.

Geet frowned, "No! Unless and until you tell me why we are going I am not moving!", there was amusement in her voice.

Maan closed his eyes trying to calm himself down and then he turned to her with a wide smile on his face, "We are going to meet Daadima so that she can get us married ASAP!"

Geet's eyes widened and she chuckled, "Oh ho! You seemed to be in so much hurry!"

Maan huffed, "Of course I am in hurry. Come on! Lets go! I want to get married next month! I have a meeting out of country next month and I want to take you with me."

He continued to drag her. Geet was surprised at his answer and allowed him to drag her for few seconds before she dug her heels again. She looked at Maan in shock. He is serious. He is not kidding. He does want to get married next month!

"Maan! You have yet to propose to me you know!", Geet commented.

Maan rolled his eyes, "Arre! Whats the need for proposal? I love you! You love me! Matter ends!"

Geet was now alarmed but Maan simply ignored her and continued to talk, "I have decided Geet! We will have a simple wedding. I hate the frivolities, you see. We will go to honeymoon in Mauritius. I heard it is best for couples. And then...", Maan continued to speak.

Geet could only watch with jaw dropped open as Maan continued to plan their whole future. She stumbled back a little. He had still not changed. He may have kept his ego aside to plead her not to leave him but he still didn't respect her! He was making decisions without consulting her. He even forgot her dreams in process. She took a deep breath as she made a shocking decision.

Maan was still rambling about their future together when Geet suddenly wrenched her hand away from Maan's grip. Maan looked at her with confusion but Geet had a blank expression on her face. She came to stand in front of him and spoke, "I was wrong. I thought if you kept your ego aside to plead in front of me, you thought of me as your equal. I thought from now on you will respect me. But I was wrong. I am still a waitress for you. I am sorry Maan but this relationship won't work!"

Maan simply blinked, "Geet...", he whispered suddenly feeling as if he was thrown right into the middle of the sea.

Geet smiled knowingly, "You don't care about my dreams Maan. And I am not sure you ever will. You don't understand me. You fell for me, but never thought about what I want. I am sorry Maan. But such a relationship has no future. Without mutual respect, a relationship will turn bitter. Love is not enough Maan."

Geet turned to walk away just as Maan came out of his stupor. He grabbed her hand and turned her around roughly. Geet spun around in surprise. Maan grabbed her by her arms and pulled her close, his eyes glaring at her.

"What rubbish are you talking about? How dare you think of leaving me!", he hissed.

Geet lost her cool. She pushed him away and before he knew it, she was shouting at him, "Enough Maan enough! Enough about you!" She threw her hands into the air, "Why is everything for you, about you Maan?"

Maan looked baffled so Geet began to explain, "You love me, so obviously you should marry me. Who cares whether I love you or not! You want to marry next month so we will get married next month. Who cares if I want to get married so soon or not! Who cares Maan!" She looked at him with accusation in her eyes, "I have dreams too Maan! But you didn't take a single second to think about how you will help me fulfil it despite me having repeatedly tell you what my dreams are! You! You! Its always you to you! And why is that?"

Geet shook her head, "You never behave like this with Daadima, Dev or Annie! You listen to their thoughts, their opinions, their decisions, but when it comes to me you take me for granted. Why Maan? Just because I am a middle class girl? I am sorry Maan! But I cannot be in a relationship with a person who doesn't even consider me worth asking opinions!" Geet starting shaking her head as tears fell down her cheeks.

"What are you trying to say Geet?", Maan's voice was harsh whisper as he looked at her aghast.

Geet wiped her tears and looked at him with determination, "Maan! What I am trying to say is that you can give me love, but as long as you think of me as a waitress you can never give me happiness! I will be left with nothing but tears and I am not a doormat who would accept it. I am sorry Maan! But when it comes down to my dignity and your love, I chose my dignity!"

Geet raised her head high and looked at Maan with pride, "Between me and you, I chose me!" With that, she turned around and walked away from the house and away from Maan's life forever.

Maan stood there for almost 10 minutes before his legs buckled and he fell down on his knees.

Did you expect that end? In the movie, the girl comes back quietly and the guy continues to show attitude to her. So of course, I didn't like that ending. I had to change it. But don't worry. MG will be back together. Just check the next update!

Thank you, take care and have fun,

CHAPTER 27. IT'S A DATE!

Six months had passed. Six months had passed since Geet exited Maan's life. It had been six months since Maan felt his life shatter into pieces. And now Maan sat in a bar area of a party in Mumbai sipping a champagne and looking around. As he looked around, he prayed in his heart that this party showed him what he wanted for so long. Oh Geet! Where are you?

Yes, dear readers! Maan Singh Khurana is waiting for a glimpse of Geet Handa. And he has been waiting for this glimpse for almost six months. A month back he had heard that Geet was seen in Mumbai circuit of elite people and since then he has been frequenting all kinds of high class parties hoping for one glimpse of her. So far, he had been unsuccessful. He hoped that this attempt didn't prove to be like the last ones.

Just then Maan caught a glimpse of Geet's face and he sucked in his breath. She was hidden behind some people and he could only see her face. But that was enough for Maan. He stood up from his seat and looked at her with love filled eyes. Her hair fell like a waterfall, framing her face. Her eyes were bright, highlighted by her make up. Her lips were red and plump, inviting him. Her cheeks glowed as she laughed at something somebody said. Maan felt like a thirsty man who was finally seeing a drop of water after months and months of draught. His heart thudded in his chest as he wondered if he ever get his second chance. No! Not his second chance! That he lost the day he confessed his feelings to her. This was his third chance and knowing her, his last chance. He hoped he didn't loose her now.

Just then the people in front of Geet moved away and Maan finally could see her fully. He blinked in surprise at how different she looked. Dressed in three piece black and white, suit and skirt and black high heels, she looked totally different from any avatar he had seen her in. She turned around and spoke to another client and then spoke into the Bluetooth receiver in her ear. Maan couldn't believe how sophisticated and graceful she was! Just then Maan's eyes fell on her long legs and he gulped. Yup! It still held the same power on him that he felt almost a year back.

Maan had to try very hard to drag his eyes away from Geet's legs to her face. He looked at her face just as her eyes fell on him. Maan felt a thrill go through him as Geet met his eyes. Her eyes widened and she visibly stumbled back. She took a deep breath and Maan watched with bated breath as Geet turned around and stormed away.

No! You cannot go like this! Maan thought in panic as he started to follow her. He pushed past the people and noticed Geet vanish outside the party hall. He followed her and stopped when he saw her leaning against the railings. He stepped closer and was shocked to see her wiping her eyes. She was crying.

"Geet!", Maan whispered and Geet turned around. It was clear she did not expect to see him follow her.

She visibly pulled herself together and stood straight facing him. Maan felt pride surge through him at the way his student was handling the situation. I am proud of you, Geet! Very proud!

"Hello Maan! How are you?", Geet's poised voice broke through Maan's thoughts. Maan raised an eyebrow at the cool and calm way Geet greeted him as if they were just two old colleagues and not two people who loved each other. Alright Geet! Maan smiled softly. If this is how you want to play then so be it!"

Maan nodded, "Hello Geet! I am good. How are you?"

"Fine! Thank you!", Geet replied, "So you are here for business, I assume?"

Maan smiled, "Not exactly. What about you? What are you doing these days?"

Geet smirked, "I am doing good. Better than you expected infact."
Maan raised an eyebrow and Geet elaborated, "I surpassed your expectations!"

Maan looked at her confused.

Geet shrugged, "You thought that someday I will become some kind of trophy wife but look, I did better! It seems in Mumbai no one knew about Rajkumari Geetanjali. So with my good English and experience, I was able to get a job as Event Manager, a post I always wanted. Infact, today I am handling mine 50th party. In six months, I managed 50 parties expertly."

Geet stepped close and glared at Maan, "I have won Maan. And you have lost. As I have got what I wanted even though you never gave a damn about my dreams and made me famous even though I didn't want it."

Geet turned around and Maan sensed that she was still angry. He frowned. I am sorry Geet. Because of me, you have turned so bitter. I hope I didn't kill all of your sweetness, Geet. He looked down sadly.

Just then Geet's voice cut through the silence, "By the way, Mr. Khurana, may I know why you are here wasting time with a low life ex waitress like me?"

Maan took in a sharp breath at her harsh words and then smiled softly, "I am here because I love you!"

Geet turned around and looked at him with wide eyes. Maan smiled gently at her, "I missed you Geet. These six months were hell without you. I want you back Geet! I want you back!"

Geet chuckled mirthlessly, "You are still saying I'."

"Because I don't want to assume things about you like last time! And I don't have yet the right to say we'.", Maan commented and Geet looked at him sharply.

"You have changed!", Geet commented.

Maan nodded, "Yes, I have realized!"

Geet raised an eyebrow, "Took you six months for that!"

Maan let out a laugh, "I changed in few days after you left Geet. You leaving me taught me my lesson. And of course there were lectures from Annie, Dev and Daadima. It took me a while to understand your point of view and how wrong I was! And once I understood it, I understood why you didn't chose me. And for once, I am glad that you didn't choose me. So I learnt my lesson ages ago. But it took me six months to find you and show you my change."

Geet blinked in confusion and Maan explained with a chuckle, "I don't know how many waitresses of Dilli I have talked to and enquired about you! Those poor girls! Must be so shocked! I had asked God knows how many people about your whereabouts before your friend Pinky finally took pity on me and told me you left the city. I continued to ask around and finally a month back I got the news that someone saw you here in some party. So since then I have been in Mumbai checking out every party hoping the next one is where I find you!"

As Maan finished his narrative, he finally noticed Geet's expression. Her eyes were wide and her jaw was dropped open. Maan was amused by the expression she made.

"Geet! Geet?", Maan called her and Geet blinked twice as she came out of her thoughts.

"I searched high and low for you! I want you back. Will you come back to me?", Maan asked softly.

Geet looked down unsure what to say. When she saw him for the first time in six months, all the hurt she had left buried inside came out in the form of bitter words. But to know that he had changed in last six months and spent those months searching for her, felt like a balm to her wounds and the old flame of love burst open. Now the ball was in her court and she had decide what she would do next.

Maan watched with bated breath as Geet pondered over her decision. Then Geet looked up at him and spoke, "Maan! You have been honest with me. So I will be honest with you too. I love you. I still do."

Maan let out a relieved breath. But Geet was not finished. She raised her hand in the universal sign of stop.

Maan gulped. Now what?

Geet continued, "I love you Maan but I cannot come with you. The thing is that I have my dream career in my hand now and I won't let go of it. I won't leave my job for you. I have a career for the first time in my life and I want to focus on it. I am sorry Maan!"

Maan let out a loud breath, "That's it? I thought you would say you are engaged or something?"

When Geet looked at him incredulously, Maan waved his hand at her, "You need not worry Geet. If you can't come to Dilli with me, then I will shift here!"

"Kya?", Geet looked at him as if he was an alien.

Maan shrugged, "Ya. Don't you know? KC has Mumbai Division too. I will simply head it and leave Dilli one to Dev! This way he will also get the chance to get out of my shadow!"

Geet looked away in shock. Maan didn't just change his thinking towards her. He, infact, turned into a new leaf totally. Now what? They loved each other and he was ready to shift here. Then what is stopping her from giving him another chance? But Geet got her answer right away. And she turned to Maan to give it to him.

"Maan! I cannot trust you! Don't take me wrong! I mean I know that you have changed. But what's the guarantee you won't change back? Your ego ruined everything and I am scared that it would ruin everything again.", Geet asked. Maan sighed and nodded, "I know Geet. I know. I know you won't trust me. But you know what Geet? I am ready to wait!" When Geet looked at him in shock, Maan nodded, "Haan Geet! I am ready to wait as long as you want."

Geet blinked back the tears in her eyes. She thought for a second and then shook her head, "Nahi Maan! Its not possible! I don't believe you will ever see me as anything other than waitress. I just can't get past it!" She looked away sadly.

Maan thought for a second and then gave her a smile, "Toh theek hai, lets start over then!"

Geet was once again shocked. Maan smiled, "Haan Geet! Lets start from start. Where we were strangers. We can meet like strangers, get to know each other, you as an equal to me, and me as the sweet guy that you fell for or so Annie claims."

Geet chuckled at the last part. And then she nodded, "Theek hai! You get your last chance Maan!"

"Fine!", Maan spoke and then took few steps back. Geet looked at him amused.

Maan walked towards Geet and raised his hand to shake, "Hi! I am Maan!"

"Maan and what...?", Geet asked teasingly.

Maan shook his head, "Only Maan!"

Geet was once again surprised. She nodded, "I am Geet. Only Geet!" She shook hands with Maan and was for the umpteenth time surprised when Maan bent down and kissed on her knuckles. When he looked up, butterflies erupted in her stomach at the intense look in his eyes.

"By the way, are you hungry?", Maan mused.

Geet nodded, "Haan! A little!"

Maan smiled, "Toh theek hai! Why don't you join me at a Restaurant? We could eat together!"

Geet blinked and then playfully looked at him, "Is this a date, Maan?"

Maan leaned forward and whispered, "I guess so!"

Geet smiled knowingly, "Then lets go!"

Maan raised his arm and Geet linked her arm to his. Arm in arm, both walked away.

How's that for an ending folks? Hope you like it!

And with this update, a beautiful story ends!

Thank you all for liking, reviewing and being a part of this Journey!

The story might have ended but my urge to write more stories inspired by Audrey Hepburn's movies is still there! So what say you? Interested in Season 2 of My Fair Geet? It is inspired by Sabrina Fair movie. You may know the story by its Indian remake "Yeh Dillagi". If you don't remember this movie, here are your hints: Jab Bhi Koi Ladki Dekhun Mera Dil Deewana Bole Ole Ole Ole, Naam Kya Hai Pyaar Ka Maara and Hoton Pe Bas Tera Naam Hai...

But the Hindi Movie was changed a lot to suit Indian tastes. My Fair Geet Season 2 will be totally different from the Indian movie and will follow the Sabrina Fair in terms of plot. So are you game, folks? Let me know!
