Oaths, vows or promises - they are not mere flowery words rather they are words of action, of noble intention. They might be a string of letters but when it is turned into an oath, it acquires a power of its own, binding your very soul to the said words. & so it did, bind, I mean.. Arjun who has broken his solemn promise leaves his stag party & rushes to the abode of Maya where he makes an honest confession of his crimes as well as assurance that he will never repeat the mistake again. - A cute scene for sure but it also sheds light on Arjun's character. He is a man whose conscience troubles when he breaks his promise, he runs to atone for his transgressions, repents and promises to never repeat it _ The MOST important point, however, - under right circumstance's, Arjun is capable and will break the promises/Oath if it hinders him in his objective!
Maya, the queen bee who has virtually got everything but is a pauper realistically has been called many things, Pagal, controlling, ambitious, stubborn, obsessive, loyal & caring - She has many shades but throughout this shade runs a thin line of honor, in her own way, she upholds a promise she makes. When Arjun speaks about wanting to know the past - She is ready to confess HER perception of the truth. When bound to a promise, she honours it, unlike Arjun.
The Omniscience of Maya
Whether the soliloquy of Maya was the imagination of the drunk Arjun or whether we got a glimpse of Maya's inner voice, I am not sure..but it sure was interesting. What first caught my eye was the ambience - A vacant room with nary a soul, Maya standing all alone under dim lights, lights that did nothing to remove the darkness or the shadows. Here she stands and savours her triumph, here she is all saucy and sassy as she gloats about how she is going to be the dreams that will haunt Arjun's waking hours, a loneliness that will cling to Arjun even in a crowd, a desire that is required for Arjun's happiness, footsteps that will trample the heart beats of Arjun, a drug that will pervade every nook & corners of Arjun, a mad breeze . She is ecstatic that she has triumphed over her past! - WHO IS THIS MAYA?
Her Promises, her intentions are all negative!! She promises to turn Arjun into a lost soul, a lonely man, a man who will not be able to find happiness anywhere else. She promises to be a breeze but not any breeze, she promises to be the wild breeze - wild breeze cause nothing but destruction. She promises to seep through every pore, ever cell of Arjun but this Maya forgets that beyond a certain limit, even nectar turns into poison ultimately destroying the very person it was nourishing. Maya is ecstatic that she has won over the past but the past stands in her form, within her, - The past stands strong & crowing at its conquest of Arjun!!
