website about which, according to you, is
the best mainstream movie of 2016. In the
poll, we considered movies that had got
good reviews while also working well at the
box office. The movies we had considered
were Aamir Khan wrestling biopic Dangal,
Salman Khan's wrestling drama Sultan, Shah
Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt's Dear Zindagi,
Sonam Kapoor's Neerja, Shahid Kapoor and
Alia Bhatt's Udta Punjab, Akshay Kumar's
Airlift, Sushant Singh Rajput's MS Dhoni: The
Untold Story and others.
While we had our picks with Sonam
Kapoor's real-life based hijack drama Neerja
or the biggest money-spinner of all time,
Dangal to get the trophy, surprisingly, it's
Dear Zindagi that won the poll. The slice of
life drama, directed by Gauri Shinde, got
nearly 35% votes with a big edge over its
closest competitor, Sultan which got 21%
votes. We have to say Shah Rukh Khan has
quite a huge fanbase among our readers.
As far as other entries go, the third spot
went to Neerja (which in my personal
opinion was the BEST movie of 2016) with
nearly 14% votes; Aamir Khan's Dangal came
fourth with 13.5% votes. The rest of the
order are like this in descending order: Udta
Punjab, Kapoor & Sons, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil,
Pink, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, and
surprisingly Airlift in the last position.
Here's the poll result...
Dear Zindagi was a co-production of Karan
Johar and Shah Rukh Khan, where the latter
had an extended cameo while Alia Bhatt
was the main lead. Kunal Kapoor, Ali Zafar
and Aditya Roy Kapur were also seen in the
movie.
