Oscars 2026: Timothee Chalamet LOSES Best Actor, One Battle After Another DOMINATES with 6 wins
With the audience warmed up and the mood firmly set, the ceremony smoothly moved into the official award presentations for the night.

The 96th Academy Awards began on a lively and entertaining note, thanks to host Conan O'Brien, who set the tone for the evening with a playful and inventive opening segment. Rather than launching straight into the ceremony, O'Brien first appeared in an elaborate pre recorded skit that instantly grabbed the audience’s attention. In the video, he hilariously stepped into the world of Weapons, briefly portraying a character from the film before the gag took an even more amusing turn.
The skit quickly expanded into a crossover parody where O'Brien’s character awkwardly wandered into several worlds inspired by the year’s Oscar nominated films. Each cameo was packed with quick jokes, visual gags, and clever references that fans of the nominated movies could instantly recognise. The result was a lighthearted and energetic start that drew plenty of laughter both inside the venue and among viewers watching from home.
After the video concluded, O'Brien finally walked onto the stage to loud applause and seamlessly transitioned into his opening monologue. Staying true to his trademark comedic style, he delivered a series of playful roasts aimed at some of the biggest stars in attendance. The jokes were sharp but never mean spirited, striking that perfect balance between witty and affectionate.
With the audience warmed up and the mood firmly set, the ceremony smoothly moved into the official award presentations for the night.
