The Whiteboard

It had taken up the whole day to filter useful information and then finally get started to put this up on the whiteboard.

He heard her voice asking, "What has Dev got to do with this?!"

His poker face did not show any emotion but his heart felt every bit of it, jumping for joy, but being restrained by his rockhard strong muscled chest. He was happy to see her. For once, for the first time, she came to see him. But why?

"What brings you here Miss Oberoi? This is not some playground you walk in and out on. People work here. Handle serious and confidential cases. Criminals are brought in for justice. You should not be here."

"I was not looking for any p-playground ACP Randhawa. I am here to d-discuss the case. I am here for b-business. So what's this? What has Dev got to do with all of this? Why is his name on the board?"

She looked at him, demanding an answer, which he could not give her. She walked towards the big whiteboard and studied the information on it. There were pictures with notes underneath it.

Mr. Manohar Chhabra and Mrs. Sheetal Manohar Chhabra.

Happily (?) married for 25 years

University of Mumbai, both

Mr. Chhabra second marriage

One son, Rehaan Chhabra, 20 years

Mr. Manohar Chhabra and Mrs. Devki Manohar Chhabra

Mr. Chhabra's first marriage

Not officially divorced, separated after 1 year

Devki passed away 2 years ago

Devendra Chhabra, 20 years half brother of Rehaan

Shveta Chhabra, 25 years,

elder sister of Devendra, half sister of Rehaan.

It took her some time to have all this information sink in. The Chhabra's, could they be involved? Dev.. Devendra.. Just now, she had found out his full official name. Silly her, she had never bothered to ask such things. What did she really know about him, other than that he looks handsome.

Is Svetlana his sister?? She was in shock!! Shveta Chhabra... Dev had never spoken about a sister. But then again, the fact that he was Rehaan's half brother was kept a secret. Did her dad know this? Was that the reason why he was hesitant to give his permission for the wedding in the first place? Did Shivaay bhaiya know this? He had been adamant on not allowing her to have any kind of contact with Dev.

"What is that in your hand Miss Oberoi?" Ranveer wanted to divert her attention in order to give himself time to think of an answer to her question. Fact was, he even didn't know the answer yet.

Shveta? Devendra? Svetlana and Dev? But what is their connection to the Oberoi's? Why would they want to hurt Priyanka and Omkara? Or Tej perhaps? Or one of the other family members for that matter. What was he missing here?

It took her some time to speak up. She held the bag up high.

"I had brought some fried rice and fried noodles, with vegetables and roasted chicken aside. One of my favorites. I thought.. Perhaps.. If you had not eaten yet.. We could have a quick bite together? If.. you want.."

Ranveer was amused and happy. She had thought of him.. How attentive.. And for a little shy girl, she showed guts walking in here all alone.

Why is he staring at me again?' Priyanka felt slightly uncomfortable.

"I see you have grown so attached to me. You were missing the good old times already? Remember me feeding you?" He pointed and touched his handcuffs. He smiled at the sight of her being startled briefly and stepping back.

"OK, if you have no interest in dinner then I will be on my way again! Your choice!" she said.

This lady keeps on surprising me. And she is a lifesaver, bringing food for me.' He pointed at the part of the table, free of files.

Both had their dinner quietly, stealing glimpses of each other secretly.

"Ranveer.. Seriously, why are Dev and his family under investigation? It is Svetlana who is the main suspect right? Just tell me. I feel I have a right to know."

She was right.. He knew it.. He explained to her how someone had sabotaged the wires of his car and that the SUV was registered on Dev Chhabra's name. When Tej mentioned Svetlana's family name, he was also puzzled.

"Look Priyanka, I am not holding back information here. I just really don't know what the connections are exactly. And that's why all of them are on the board. So I can fit in the pieces of the puzzle."

"Is that what you have done with my family too?"

"Yes.. I did.. In fact.. I still have that.."

He proudly turned the board around and she saw all their pictures, notes and arrows. She saw her own picture linked to Omkara. Her eyes focused on the words WEAK LINK'. It had been a slap in her face. So that's how he sees me?' She could feel tears well up but fought them back.

He could sense something had changed in her. She had became quiet all of a sudden. He thought she might be tired of their trip and recent events.

"You know ACP Randhawa, even my parents studied at the University of Mumbai. In fact, Mr. Chhabra and my mom were close friends in their college years. That's why mom was so happy to have Dev as a son in law. You know Dev is a good boy. It's not his fault if Svetlana indeed turns out to be his sister Shveta."

After Priyanka left, Ranveer looked at his white board again. Could that be the link? Mr. Manohar Chhabra and Mrs. Jhanvi Tej Singh Oberoi. Was there another connection than college friendship between these two?
