It's just really sad what Indian television has come to.

Thankfully, I wouldn't term Vividha as mahaan but she's drowned in guilt because you know...that's what our female protagonists do. They take it upon themselves to lessen everyone's sorrows around them.

Where as 2 decades back, the popular serials back then actually did deal with females with grey shades, they weren't doodh ki dhuli. They dealt with REAL SHADES!

There's no new thinking in the nayi soch, instead it gets more regressive by the day.

This article is so on point! It's just sad to see what indian tv has come down to. This is why I quit indian shows. I think it's high time someone needs to take the initiative and start a channel with finite series only. At least those kinda shows have a message and real story which they stick to throughout rather than tampering for sake of trps.

There's a pakistani channel called Hum Tv which airs finite series only, most of them are less than 20 episodes only, but their storylines are amazing. No drama, no illogical tracks, just plain quality over quantity. Unfortunately indian tv lacks in this department :(

Too many channels too many shows. We live in an era where they preach ' life is a race' . The competitive world has so many ups and downs and quality being one major thing.
Trp matter than quality.

During childhood we only had one channel and I was watching a show called junoon. In that there was a lady called mini she was grey too. Now imagine those makers were brave enough to show reality in 90s .

Now it all comes down to sanskaari and melodramatic bahu . It is what sells. What a shame

Such a good article with so many valid points.

In a way, indian tele has regressed. The female lead always has to make sacrifices whether she's happy or not. Where's her self-worth, her dreams and aspirations? As soon as she gets married they go down the drain and she settles on becoming the perfect bahu.

I still have hope in our show, that they will take the leap and give the woman the freedom to choose what she wants out of life and who she wants to be with.

Thanks reemz for posting this article. Now the only motive of any Indian serial is making high trp, showing FL as mahaan bahu. For this purpose, they are introducing illogical tracks. But the fact is many of the audience like to watch saas-bahu saga and meaningless tracks. That's y shows like SNS,YHM,MAM,SSK are still surviving. It's high time people need to change their thoughts and must give welcome to progressive shows. I never take any serial or film to heart till now. But JNDSD is different. This show highlighted all social issues like domestic violence, forced marriages, honor killing. so Cvs need to show empowerment of women to society. Not only atharv and Vividha, uma and sujatha too must take revenge on kk. They need to show women are not born for compromises or sacrifices. Hope our show never become BALIDHAN in the name of trp. Want to see JNDSD as NAYISOCH.

Its all about stereotypes now. They all look the same, act the same and react the same. No character development at all

Wow, this is a great article...
And quite true... Television these days have neither "entertainment" nor "escape" nor has got any " inspiration value"...

In the world of television 90s was more advanced than 2016 - 17.. 😆

Technology and standard of living is moving forward ... Choice of people and creativity of producers are going backward... Wonder what went wrong !!... 😕 🤔

Thank u 4 sharing... 😛

Now a days the only value in Indian soaps is eye candy for women. No substance is required for that. Even negative substance if shown in an aesthetically pleasing bottle is appreciated by the dim wits that is the Indian audience today. So ya, that is what we will be fed. Just like Bollywood still cannot get away from the formulaic item dance in all their movies via a woman who dances happily to the tunes that objectify her. SMH. Kuch hona chahiye to shake up the audience and give them the option to choose smarter content instead of keeping them dumbed down.
