of course this is no youth show man...and shivaay's views are extremely archaic...I have been saying that since long too...nothing more unattractive than narrow mindedness and old fashioned thoughts imo...does he put down every employee of his the way he puts down anika? In this environment of increasing start ups in our country, why and how is he so hung up on old money and naam khoon khaandaan?...
WHAT is this khoon jaanp...?I loved when anika taunted him about his SHAANDAAR khoon😆..can we get her back...he was issues with dev being illegitimate as if that defined dev the person...what kind of a character is shivaay with all the money and legitimacy he has? somebody needs to throw this line at him.

^^I had said it once and I will say it again...I will have absolutely no problem if my sibling decides to marry somebody "illegitimate"...it's not even about being archaic or being modern...it's about simple logic for me...the fact that a person was conceived without marriage between the 2 people involved says nothing about the person himself...perhaps the elders in my family would have problems...I haven't thought much about how I would tackle it,obviously😆...but I personally would have NO problem.
But I agree that none of the male character is really open minded...Om the LEAST of all...he does not even listen to others, let alone try and understand them...he is a really superficial and pretentious character...gul has disappointed...and with the accident history he is now a hypocrite too.Rudra too is not truly open minded or metrosexual like his character description says...he is a homophobe...indulges in fat shaming.

The only time I ever felt this show was a proper youth show was during Mallika track, my absolute most favourite character in the show. Only she brought the youth factor to the show tbh, the show was so much fun and lighthearted back then. *sigh*
She got the entire Oberoi family questioning themselves about their attitude towards women and in general the worth of women in our society. It was refreshing to see. The moment when the three brothers sat down and introspected that do our mothers really treat sons better than daughters? Shivaay himself who is very archaic in his views questioned himself too.
Of course, to Gul's credit, a proper nayi soch was actually displayed here where the ex-girlfriend was not a vamp and was not scheming & plotting to get the ex-boyfriend back. I totally LOVED the equation between Shivaay & Mallika as well., #excouplegoals.
Then I did love the entire episode with the Ranas, and how they all discussed their treatment of women and Mallika's farewell. <3 Pinky's confession about being treated like second class citizen...I am just sitting here thinking is this the same IB now where Dadi is giving speeches about sanctity of sindoor & mangalsutra. 😕
Of course, the poolside party and the halloween pranks also lent the youth factor to the show IMO. Before Mallika track, the show was a family drama running alongside ShivIka story. But I guess IB has never had typical saas-bahu drama before, hence it's being tagged as a 'youth show'. It was always fun & lighthearted before without any excess drama and negativity, further adding to the notion that it was a 'youth' show.
Shivaay's character was never supposed to be be geared towards making this show a 'youth' show. This show was supposed to about his evolution and how 'Ishqbaazi' changes his flawed principles and makes him a better man. Till now, we have only seen the exact OPPOSITE of that so I am not sure what the makers are trying to do here.
I have a different point of view about naam, khoon & khandaan. I believe these three things are still very important in our present society and class barriers and prejudices will always be inherent in people. I can say with confidence that no girl here will marry a man who is a beggar and does not have a stable job. How many people here would be okay if their sibling were to marry an illegitimate child? I don't know if I am archaic or traditional in my thinking, but I would not be. So the point I'm trying to make here is that NKK is still very much functional in our society and it always has an impact on inter-personal relationships between people, doesn't matter from which class they belong. Shivaay's character is just supposed to have a much DEEPER obsession with NKK than the rest of us, and the reasons for this were explained in the initial episodes of IB. It is my belief that in only the utopian/ideal world (which doesn't exist btw) would these class barriers cease to exist.
They could showcase his NKK obsession in a much nuanced manner too and give some proper backstories to make the reasons for his obsession look more plausible but to expect nuance from GK and her team of writers is a waste of time.
Look, even what Om and Rudra have done nothing that demonstrates their open-mindedness according to me.
Om had a girlfriend Riddhima for 2+ years and they had a long-distance relationship for a while, then she came back and even then he did not offer her any commitment while pretending to love her. Then after his drug episode, he conveniently asked her to live in with him one day and next day he humiliated her and kicked her out for a minor error in judgment (according to me). Why? Did she not deserve to get another chance for waiting for him all this time? This showed a complete lack of respect towards Riddhima and also a complete lack of open-mindedness. But this is worse in Om's case, because he always pretends to respect women and relationships and gives moral lectures. Will the Oberois give the same punishment to Om when his hit & run case comes out in the open? I don't think so. He has also always resented his father for cheating on his mom but never actually bothered to do anything about it.
Shivaay has never pretended to be a good guy. He knew he was bad, and that's what he showed to the world. Shivaay has always been clear that his marriage with Tia is a deal and that he does not love her.
Rudra has never claimed to be anything in this show nor has he ever given any gyaan or lectures unlike Shivaay and Om. But I don't see how he showcased any open-minded behaviour? 😕 He has always judged women for their outward appearances and was always a playboy and played with the feelings of women. Where is the open-mindedness in that?
So, I think no one was truly open-minded in the show except Mallika (and the old Annika), but this show was supposed to showcase all of their journeys towards being more open-minded in the end. Though at this point, it seems the reverse is happening. 😆
