Regarding Alka Yagnik, I think Alka was a more popular artist than Anuradha Paudwal. As for driving Alka out, actually after becoming T-Series' favourite, Anuradha Paudwal dubbed over many of Alka's songs, including the songs of the film Dil, which really pissed off Alka Yagnik.

I was just listening to her song from Saajan yesterday and thinking, that where has Alka, Kavita and Anuradha's time gone. I miss that time. These 3 made amazing pairs with Kumar Sanu, Udit & Sonu. Lovely solos and duets.
