Books. They leave more scope for imagination, and that's a good thing sometimes, IMO.
Plus a LOT of important details were left out of the film, which put me off quite a bit.

Books.

Movies have to cut short a lot of things, and books give a lot more scope for fleshing out characters and backstories which is not possible with movies.
