Chapter 2
Glaring angrily at the jewelry placed on her dressing table, Kalpi grabs it and throws it forcefully towards the mirror. Oblivious of the shards of glass around, Kalpi calls Pakhi, suddenly anxious as she waits for the call to go through, mentally mumbling, "please let their jobs be safe." Relief seeps in when she receives a text message from Pakhi stating that she is in a meeting. With a half smile, she tells herself, "bless... He hasn't fired them."
Mrs Mohan rushes into Kalpi's room, her gaze falling on broken mirror, then to the floor. Embarrassed over tantrum, Kalpi looks into eyes filled with worry and says sheepishly, "I am sorry. I will clean up."

Six months later
Ragav leans back, swirling his wine, his gaze contemplating, his attention on the woman seated across from him. Watching Kalpi rearrange the food on her plate. He asks lazily as he sips the wine, "is the food not to your liking?"
Reacting reflexively, Kalpi quickly takes a mouthful of food... Coughing and sputtering as she chokes on the food she hurried swallows... Worrried should she anger him. Frowning, Ragav walks around the dining table, crouches next to her, patting her lightly on her back in a soothing motion. "Are you okay?", he asks, concerned.
Sipping some water, Kalpi replies, "I am fine." Turns to him, her gaze apprehensive. Noting her distress, Ragav takes a step back, nods and sits back in his seat, across from her, his forehead slightly creased as he frowns.
His gaze thoughtful as he observes her... Once again distracted as she plays with her food. Getting up, he says, "I shall have my coffee in the study." He waits for her to acknowledge his request, doubtful if she would have heard him as she was thoroughly distracted. Kalpi lifts her head, confusion etched in her eyes as she tries to figure out what he had just said. He takes a deep breath, meets her gaze then repeats his request. Slightly annoyed at being ignored over dinner, he turns around and walks towards his study, not bothering to wait for her acknowledgement.
After waiting for his coffee for a half hour, Ragav gives up any pretense of calmness. Concerned, he wonders what could be bothering her. Debating whether to ask her or not. Deciding not to, telling himself he doesn't care, he paces to and fro in his study.
Sighing deeply, he takes his phone and makes a call to Dr. Abhimanue. Getting no answer he calls the hospice and barks into the phone when answered, "Dr. Abhimanue, please." His tone, a clear indicative that it was not a request.
The receptionist stammers into the phone, "whhhooo... who may I say is calling?"
Frowning Ragav walks back to the dining hall, slightly annoyed that Kalpi did not share her worries with him. He stops mid stride, his frown deepening, now annoyed with himself as he scolds himself, "why should I care? She is here for only one purpose... to entertain my moods... not I hers."
Startled by loud bang as the front door closes, Kalpi comes back to the present. She quickly gets up from the dining table and races to the front of the house, thinking, "oh no... he is angry. I can't let him leave angry. What if... no no don't think it."
Stepping out of the house, she sees the car racing around the bend. Sensing Mrs Mohan behind her, she turns around and cries out, "Mrs. Mohan what should I do... omg, he has left angry... I didn't mean to ignore him."
"Call him, quickly... placate him," Mrs. Mohan says worriedly, well aware of the scars he carries.
"Ring...ring..." Ragav's phone rings insistently. Glaring at his phone, he reads... 37 misscalls.
"He has switched off his phone," Kalpi tells Mrs. Mohan. "What should we do now," she asks.
Patting her lightly on the back, Mrs. Mohan replies, "there is nothing we can do. Let us go to bed. He will get intouch when he wants to."
Switching off his phone, Ragav leans back on his car seat, staring out of the wind screen, silently watching aeroplanes taking off and landing. For how long he sat there, he did not know.
Entering the house quietly, Ragav sees a worried Mrs. Mohan seated on the sofa waiting. He thinks, "the ever loyal Mrs. Mohan. Biting the apology that was about to escape from his lips, he asks instead, "Kalpana?"
"In her room. Asleep," she replies.
Nodding dismissively, he climbs the stairs, heading towards Kalpi's room.
Shaking her head as she watches Ragav walk into Kalpi's room, she turns to her husband who was quietly standing by the kitchen door and says, "why can't he show her that he cares when she is awake."
"Don't you dare meddle," Mr. Mohan scolds mockingly, then adds, "let them sort it out themselves. Come to bed. It is late."
Ragav quietly walks into Kalpi's room. Careful not to wake her. He sits by the edge of the bed. Watching her sleep. His gaze soft, unguarded as he lightly caresses her left cheek.
