Prem, here my discussion was not about the run of the mill common folk like us. There has always been this general attitude in India that the whole world is one big family, and concepts like Vasudeiva Kutumbakam.

It does not work at ground level now in these days of rigid national boundaries and ideas of nationalism. But its remnants still remain in the thinking at the ideological level of several people. I was generally speaking of such a mindset. It may not be general or exist among the majority of the population. It is however relevant when we talk about great leaders, political, religious, social activists, etc who supersede these narrow man made boundaries with the services they render.

Take Aung San Su Ki. I think she was born in America though she was of Burmese origin from one side. But I don't think any of the Burmese people will see her as anything but Burmese. They surely will not see her as an American. Mother Teresa is another case point. I have heard of several social activists born in Asia or America who spent 20 or 30 years serving people in a small and remote African village working for their betterment.

They might even have taken the citizenship of that country as well. And I don't think any of the people around them see them as anything apart from them. They consider them as one among them. You or I may not be considered American or English even when we live for years together in those countries. We have our own interests in staying and working in those countries.

We perhaps go for earning more money, career advancement, international exposure, etc. Why would we even become part of them? I myself live in US and I myself don't consider myself as an American just because I live here. When I cannot identify myself with US why will anyone identify with me? They will see me as an Indian only.

At the same time, no country in the world refuses citizenship rights to someone who has married their countryman or woman. The individual has the scope of deciding which citizenship they want, the one they got by birth, or the one they will acquire by marriage, and in some cases, they can even retain dual citizenship. So coming to our CN, Helena should not be discriminated just on the basis of her foreign origin.

Nand and Nandini are doing nothing but a pure volte face. I have always felt that Nand falls in the category of a famous saying in Telugu, "Andhithe juttu, andakapothe kaallu!"(Pulling hair if it reaches, if you fail to reach falling at their feet).

He keeps saying Nandini means everything to him, but at the same time, if he has to choose between her happiness, or his remaining in power as the king, he will choose to remain the king. Here realistically speaking, Nandini's life is not under any threat, according to him. These days we take domestic and sexual abuse in a very serious light. It may not have been so serious according to the BC sensibilities of right and wrong. Perhaps they did not think much of such things when the girl herself had no problem with it.

Nand would all the same be unhappy with this decision because he might have sensed by now that Malayketu, though an excellent warrior, and a very strong and able ally to Magadh, might not be the right husband or life partner he would have wanted for his daughter. It is that bitter pill both he and Nandini have to swallow for the sake of politics and power.

They need Malayketu very badly this time round. Malay can afford to break this alliance but not Nand and Nandini. They have been cornered this time round. You think they would have countenanced all his misbehavior so calmly if they had another option? Definitely not!

There is nothing great or elevated in this great "sacrifice" that Nandini is making by forgoing her rights and self-respect. She is selfish and narcissistic too though in a different way from Helena. I am really finding it difficult to sympathize with her.

She made her choices after knowing everything. She knew what she was walking into agreeing to this marriage. She was ready to pay that price as well. I would perhaps have felt sorry for her if she did not at all have the option of any choice and the entire thing is forced upon her. Here she has the choice but chose not to exercise it.

Its like i see an accident on road and just walk off why should i get into trouble with police or doctors etc same mentality

I wonder how writer will reedem nandini in long run for i see her misbehaving with chandra, helena, dhuradhara, chankya etc for defeating nandas. When she realizes truth how will she redeem herself one sorry one apology and all will say she is mahaan and great and forgive her? That is what shall happen ultimately because chandra will fall for her first so will forgive her without any prayaschit as such and praise her sky high for simple acts

Let me take example of recent Us elections - hillarys silence during bill clinton scandal made her a untrustworthy lady in long run(apart from email etc)
Same is case of nandini - no commoner will care if nandini did not know etc the fact she kept quiet after truth comes out(once chandra takes over as emperor he will free all opporesed and his mom, sister, uncle, chankya are all living proof of what padmanand was a bigot ruler yet nandini will never believe is gauranteed from promo and wants revenge from CGM) will only add fuel to already raging fire. Ok CGm forgive her as he is blindly in love what about his family, his other wives and parents and commoners. Will they believe her? Na never it will be like hillary case always a lingering doubt in mind and she will be never trusted again in life no matter what redemption she does.

No, my dear Geet, it is not the gendering of random adjectives. It is just the way that adjective is used in the language. Even in French, the word ravissante, which is the equivalent of ravishing, is not used for a man. I did not create this rule, I merely cited it.

Besides, I do not understand the use of too in your sentence.

And you're the judge of gendered stereotypes too now, aunty? If you mean that I am judgemental about characters and scenes, that is what an analysis is all about.

If you want to use ravishing for a man, or pretty, for that matter, who is stopping you from doing so? Though I doubt it he would like it!😉

Finally, this was something between Pooja and me, and she does not seem to have minded my gentle hint.
