How much a negativity affects the movie depends on how long it lasts.
In the case of BV, it was way much before the audience negativity. It was the entire industry's. Whether you wanna believe it or not, the entire industry really wanted BV to fail. For the simple reason being that Anurag Kashyap, the torch-bearer of Indie cinema, wanted to make a movie that might've encroached into the main-stream market.(how delusional was he). More than threatened, these industry people felt that how dare this Indie director was trying to get a piece of the pie from their market. And, everyone knows how much Anurag Kashyap lashed out at the "main-stream" people and created hatred for himself. The media negativity around BV was un-precedented. And, the genre being gangster-drama definitely did not help its case. People don't celebrate disasters as it was in the case of BV. From it's inception to release, the amount of bad-will from the industry was consistent. They knew Ranbir wouldn't get affected cuz of his status. They wanted Anurag out of the game before he even got in
You can say it was Anurag Kashyap's karma coming to bite him.
I think it was similar case for MJD. But, not as much.
Jagga Jasoos also has a lot of negativity around it cuz of the delays. But, few leaks here and there from the schedules have helped things.
In the case of Befikre, every BO trade journalist I'm seeing says that it's hot in the trade. You're getting too influenced by the forum and YT comments world. đ
If the movie is a hit, it'll go to RS. If it flops, it'll be blamed on the content. That wasn't a convenience Ranbir was afforded during BV.
