Sorry bro but I need a day or two to read this!! Will come back soon!!
Hey guys! Thank you so much for all the comments. It warms my heart to see you all liking it, itna woh bhi!
I hadn't thought I'll update so soon but then I got in the groove and couldn't keep myself from it. This will focus on one of Shravan's major issues, one that got it all started. It's kind of a long update. You have been warned! Also it will be kind of heavy a read, it's got Shravan opening up, so you have been warned again. You might think why there is so much pain, but it was necessary to flush it all out of him before he could truly be happy!
Let's get on with it shall we.
Chapter 2:
It was Suman's first day as a Malhotra bahu and all she could catch were rasams. Soon after her conversation with Shravan, Kamini Chachi, Vandy Bhabhi and Preeti had come barging into their room giving her a breakup of the day ahead. She was to make a sweet dish as her first rasoi. Then a lot of women, friends of the Malhotra family were to visit for lunch and Muh dikhai. The lunch had to be Suman special cause Kamini Chachi had flaunted her culinary skills to no end and now the family's "Izzat" was on the line. Chachi handed her wedding fineries and said she had to look every bit the newly wed bride that she was. Evening was meant for all the shaadi ke baad wali rasams they could not do yesterday followed by family dinner with the Tiwaris. Giving her a run down the women left leaving her to get dressed.
To say she was overwhelmed was an understatement. Yesterday she felt not one bit like a bride. She had a lot of dreams, nothing huge, just a lot of love and a lot of happiness. She always thought she would dress up like a princess for each function, and her husband to be would be bowled over seeing her each time. Nothing of that sort had happened and all her dreams were crushed. But today, with the beautiful red saree in her hand and the family jewelry she couldn't help the tears welling in her eyes. Shravan saw all of it from the walk in, and he knew what was going on in that pretty little head of hers. It was his fault that he pushed her into this marriage, and guilt started taking form. But then he reasoned with himself that it was she that pushed him to it in the first place. But then she was hurt and that hurt him. He walked up to her, not knowing what to say he merely placed his hand on her head. She looked up at him understanding all that he couldn't say. They stood there looking into each other's eyes, with his palm still protectively over her head. A silent apology was felt, a silent forgiveness was meted out. Suman finally spoke, "Mai ready ho jaati hoon, sab wait kar rahe honge..."
Shravan pulled his hand away slowly and nodded. "Mai bahar jaata hoon, tum yahin ready ho jao. Saree washroom mai pehne mai difficulty hogi na.." Saying he walked out and shut the door behind him. He stood leaning on the door thinking about the life to be. It would involve a lot of guilt, a lot many resentments and a lot of difficulties. But this was a life with Suman, and he would in a blink go through it all, all over again, for a life with her was way better than a life of solitude and suffering.
Suman got dressed in a jiffy, it was to be a long day and she hadn't gotten enough sleep. All thanks to Aditya! And Shravan! Her geeky best friend, who had updated himself to her egoistic husband's status. What was she to do with him! It would be a task being married, but being married to him, well that was a totally different ball game. 12 years she awaited his return, she always dreamt of being his. She got her wish. Impossible a happily married life did seem at this point, but if it were for him, she would fight it out. Thinking she opened the door of the room to head into the kitchen only to be met with a massive weight which took her down with it. She found her semblance to find the weight was actually her husband.
"Ahhh", yelled Shravan.
"Ahhh? Tum mujhpe gire aur lagi bhi tumko?"
"Arey nahi woh, sar pe lagi na toh.." he rubbed the back of his head. He took a massive hit there just the other morning and now he fell and hit his head in the same location. It hurt but he decided not to tell Suman anything about it. Not yet.
"Kamal ho tum, mai bach gayi, poore mujh pe girte toh Ram naam ho jata aj mera..."
Shravan snapped to look in her direction, "Aj keh diya hai, doobara sochna bhi mat. I will not let it pass so lightly, is that clear?"
Suman saw the hurt in his eyes, the anger in his tone made it more than evident he did not take it as the joke that it was. "Shravan, Mazak tha bas.."
"Mujhe aaise Mazak pasand nahi hai."
"Sorry" she said slowly.
"Sorry" he said slowly.
"Lagi tumhe?"
"Subha ka badla ho gaya tumhara poora" she said smiling.
"Lagi tumhe?" he repeated.
"Ab Qutub minaar girega toh lagega toh sahi na."
"Dikhao.."
"Kuch nahi bas haath pe thoda sa.."
He rubbed her elbow a little trying to reduce the pain. She now knew what he must have felt with her ministrations. His warm touch felt so good. "Tum darwaze pe kya kar rahe the?" She asked trying to divert her mind.
"Soch raha tha..."
"Kya?"
"I was thinking.."
"Woh samjha, par darwaze pe lean karke?"
"Haan dhyaan nahi tha.." He said and a smile graced his lips, which kept getting wider each moment.
"Kya? Has kyun rahe ho ab?"
"Subha ka toh theek hai, bachpan ka badla poora ho gaya mera."
"Shravan?"
"Kitni baar giri thi tum mujh pe moti! Mai single phasli itna damage hota tha mujhe." He said between laughter.
"Moti! Tumne moti kaha mujhe?"
"Sorry.. sorry haan.."
"Much better.."
"Motu kehna chahiye tha, zyada apna lagta hai.." Saying he started laughing again.
She whacked him a few times on his torso, "Tumne motu kaha?"
"Arey lag raha hai na! Tumhare haat itne chote se hai par fatka zor se lagta hai.."
"Accha hai! Iske hi layak ho tum!" She said, laughing freely with him.
Ramnath had come to check on Shravan when he saw Suman and Shravan on the floor, both laughing without inhibitions, while Suman whacked him and Shravan used his hands to defend himself. A smile made its way to his lips. This is what he always wanted. His son's happiness, and he had been so blind as to keep him from it. His son had now found his peace and he would move mountains to keep him so. He was turning to leave when Suman saw him, composed herself and spoke, "Sorry Papa, aapko dekha nahi, aapko kuch chahiye tha?"
Papa? After all he had done to her, she still referred to him as that. How wrong he had been. "Nahi beta bas yuhin. Tum log please continue. Mai chalta hoon.."
"Haaw! Papa! Aapki bahu mujh pe domestic abuse kar rahi hai aur aap bol rahe ho continue! Ek din hua shaadi ko aur party badal li!" He said standing up and lending a hand to Suman.
Ramnath laughed and said, "Beta tum dono ek hi party mai toh ho.."
"Point Judge sahab! Point!" He said merrily.
"Mai chalti hoon, aap dono baaten karo, Chachi wait kar rahe honge mera."
"Okay motu!"
"Shravan!" Ramnath glared. "Biwi hai woh tumhari!"
"Tabhi toh bola, padosi ki biwi ko thodi boloonga..."
Suman shook her head in dismay and took her leave. She would make moong daal ka halwa, her bhookad loved it!
-------------------------
As she expected the day went past in rasams and meeting people. Shravan had hogged on more than half the halwa she had made and then he needed medication for that stomach of his that went for a toss. Muh dikhai was an elaborate affair. She was astonished at the number of people the Malhotras knew. Her brain was in overdrive trying to learn the names of all of the people that had been invited. A few of them wanted her PCT to cater at their future parties and events. Suman couldn't have been happier. Kamini Chachi had asked her to rest for a bit before the dinner later in the evening. She gladly obliged.
-----------------------
Shravan was not in the room. She sighed for she missed him, already! She strolled in the room and stood at the window. The garden looked beautiful at this time of the day, well lit and pretty. She saw a saree clad woman making her way into the garden, "Nirmala aunty? She just reached Mumbai yesterday, aj yahan?" She thought to herself and made her way to the garden. Before she got there she saw Shravan headed in the exact direction of his mother. Panic set in. If he saw her here he would loose it. What now? While she walked cautiously not to be seen, she saw Shravan stop right in front of his mother. "Kyun bulaya?" Said Shravan dryly. He knew she was here? She called him and he came to see her? What is happening? Suman couldn't wrap her head around it and so she hid behind the pillar to figure out what this was all about.
"Tum aaye", Said Nirmala emotionally.
"Aapko kaam kya tha?"
"Bina kaam ke apne bete se milne nahi aa sakti?"
"Itne saalon mai toh aayi nahi aap, toh..."
"Tu kaisa hai?"
"Kaisa dikh raha hoon?"
"Mujhe bataya Aditya ne, uske gundon ne tujhe sar pe hatoda mara tha, mujhe jaana tha tu theek toh hai na?"
"Uske gundo ne hatoda mara, phir cholorform sunghaya, tab utha sake mujhe. Phir mere aur Aditya ke beech ladai bhi hui. Usko acche se maara maine, mai toh phone utha kar aapko batane bhi wala tha ke aapka beta phir se pit raha hai mere haathon. Aapko uski tension leni chahiye. Meri nahi."
Suman was flabbergasted at what she heard. Gunde? Aditya? Uthaya tha? What did all of this even mean?
"Shravan, Aditya ne tujhe kidnap karke bohot galat kia. Mai mannti hoon. Par meri baat maan kar tum dono ruk gaye. Uss nafrat ko khatam karne ki pehli koshish ki, jo humare parivaaron mai hai. Mere dil ko bohot sukoon mila beta."
Shravan was kidnapped!! That's where he was yesterday! That's what he meant by uski maa ki baat maanke chodd diya usko! Why didn't he tell me? Or anyone?
"OH! Toh ab aap ko yeh lag raha hai ke maine usko maaf kia aur aapko apna liya is it? Galat hai aap. Uss waqt, Aditya ki maa bheek maang rahi thi uski jaan ki, kisi ki maa ka dil nahi dukhana chahiye. Zindagi dard mai guzarti hai, aaisa meri ma ne kaha tha mujhe. Iss liye maan li uss waqt aap ki baat. But understand this, Aditya ki ek aur galat harkat aur uska hashr aap soch nahi sakti."
"Woh ab kuch nahi karega. Uss ne vada kia hai mujhse..."
"Kab kia? Aj subha? Kyunki kal raat woh meri biwi se milne aya tha. Usko meri sacchai batane.."
"Shravan woh phir Suman se nahi milega kabhi. Maine samjhaya hai usko. Bataya tha uss ne ke woh aya tha yaha kal. Tumne jo kaha woh bhi sahi toh nahi tha na beta?"
"Nahi hoga shayad, par kya hai na, ke mere paas maa nahi thi mujhe batane ke sahi kya hai galat kya.."
"Shravan maafi maangi toh hai maine tum se, aur majbooriyan thi meri.."
"Oh yes, women and their majbooris! Maafi maang kar mujh pe koi ehsaan nahi kia. You're 12 years too late. Aur maine poocha tha na aapse, Aditya aur Sumo ki mehndi mai, pooch tha na meri kya galti thi? Maine kya kar diya tha jo aap mujhe chodd kar chali gayi? Kya kaha tha aap ne tab? Yaad hai?"
Nirmala looked down not knowing what to say, while Suman wept silently at her husband's never ending plight.
"Mai yaad dilata hoon aapko. Apne iss bete ki tarha uss baat ko bhi bhool gayi hogi na aap. Toh suno, aap ne mujh se kaha ke mera beta bohot khush hai. Suman se bohot pyaar karta hai. Tum uski khushiyon ke raaste mai mat ana."
Suman heard his heart break right then. What he must have felt. She wanted to hug him but refrained in the given circumstances.
"Mai jab bhi sochta hoon, ke ab mera dil aur nahi toot sakta, ke mujhe aur dard ho hi nahi sakta, somehow or the other ho hi jaata hai. Aapko andaza nahi uss waqt mujhe kaisa laga tha. Meri maa, jisko mai yeh pooch raha hoon ke meri kya galti thi ke woh chodd gayi mujhe aur 12 saal tak mud ke nahi dekha, mujhe apne bete ki khushion ke raaste se hatne bol rahi hai. Woh aapka beta hai toh mai kaun hoon?" He said laughing sadly.
"I'll tell you kaisa laga. 12 saal socha ke zaroor maine koi galti ki hogi jiss ki wajhe se aap chali gayi. Khud ko kosta raha. Doosron ko jab khush dekha, unki maaon ko unki parvah karte dekha, unko pyaar karte dekha, laga ke kya kho diya maine apni hi galtion se. Fast forward 12 years. A very bitter, a very venomous, misogynistic Shravan Malhotra came back to India, thinking nahi, ab mai phir kabhi hurt nahi hone wala, kisi ko kabhi apne dil ke paas nahi aane doonga. Succeeded for a while. But Suman, meri dost, mera pehla aur akhri pyaar usko kabhi nafrat kar nahi nahi paya mai." Niramala looked at him shocked. "Haan pyaar karta tha mai Suman se, shayad ab bhi karta hoon."
Suman looked at him with hope. After so much, there was still love?
"Par keh nahi saka, kyunki darta tha, ke woh bhi aap ki tarha chali jayegi chodd kar mujhe aur iss baar toh mai marr hi jaaonga. And she brought you back to me. For a moment I wanted to forget everything and just weep in your arms, but then dad came and I realized you were the one that left. I couldn't hurt my father, the only person I had with me when no one was. So I lashed out and left. But then so did you. You didn't even try to make amends." He said hopelessly.
"Shr...va..n.. main" wept Nirmala.
"Then Aditya came, so happy so full of life, irritation hoti thi mujhe usse, ke kyun hai woh itna khush? Kaise ho sakta hai koi itna khush? Phir pata chala uski ma hai, jiss ne pala hai usko, bohot pyaar kia, har khushi di usko, phir pata chala ke uski ma aap the! Aapko pata hai kaisa laga? Aaisa laga jaise sab kat gaya ho mere andar! Itna dard hua. Sab bemaine lagne laga. Aditya ko woh pyaar mila jo mera tha! Meri ma, uski thi! Aur woh itna khush aur mai itna toota hua! I got drunk and wept myself to sleep that night. Chanting that I hated you. Anything to make the pain lesser." He smiled warlyly.
"The last nail in the coffin was when he announced his wedding to Sumo, my Sumo! The one who's love kept me alive for all those years! I got drunk again! Got into a fight with goons, unki galti nahi thi, par itna gussa tha mere andar, kisi par toh nikalna hi tha na. I promised myself that day. Itna bura banke bataoonga ke log mera dil todhna toh dur, mujhse baat karne mai bhi darenge. Hum dost the yeh woh bhi bata chuki thi aur mai bhi. Par woh kuch aur hi sunna chahta tha. Maza aa raha tha usko mujhe tadpane mai. Maine socha mai toh bura banne wala tha na, toh kyun sunu aapki? Kyun na Aditya ki uss hasi ko hamesha ke liye mita doon, phir aapko shayad samjh aaye ke mujhe kaisa laga tha.. Keh diya maine jo kaha usko. Le liya badla. Chinn gayi uski hassi. Par kya mujhe sukoon mila? Nahi. Sabka socha maine, Suman ka nahi. Todh diya uska bhi dil. Aapko andaza nahi hai kaisa lagta hai mujhe roz, har pal. Aap kabhi andaza laga bhi nahi sakti. Toh aapke bete ya uske gundon ke diye hue zakham mujhe zyada dard nahi dete, jo dard zindagi bhar jhele hai unke saamne toh kuch bhi nahi hai. Toh aap please inn choti choti baaton ke liye khud ko pareshan na karo. Aap bas apna aur apne bete ka khayal rakho. Mujhe akele jeeneki aur dard mai rehneki aadat hai. Jitni zindagi bachi hai, aaise hi kaat loonga. You please, just leave." Saying with finality he went back inside the house.
Nirmala left weeping. And Suman slumped on the lawn at the hurt this man had felt in his 27 years of life. She had been responsible for a lot of his pains too. She cried for all that he felt. Unbeknownst to them, Ramnath had heard the entire conversation. His guilt weighed heavy, if his son was to ever be incandescently happy, he would have to make his peace with his past and there was but one way to make that happen. Shravan had to know. If he was to loose his son so he could find happiness, he would do so in a heart beat. Shravan's life was all that mattered, and this girl that was weeping for his son right in front of his eyes, would make sure Shravan would be fine.
----------------------------
Dinner with the Tiwaris was a fun affair. They had been as good as family for a while, so chilling was second nature. Suman keenly observed Shravan throughout the evening, his face held not one bit of pain, not one bit of worry from earlier. He was smiling and laughing as though nothing had happened. But she knew now when she saw him for who he was, that his smile never reached his eyes. This was all pretence. Such a well practiced mask that it didn't slip once. Her heart hurt for him. He didn't deserve this. Not in a million years. His heart was pure and so battered she was surprised it still beat.
--------------------------
Post dinner everyone returned to their respective rooms. Suman changed and waited for Shravan, but when he didn't get back she decided to go check on him. She thought he might be with his father, but he wasn't. Ramnath was sleeping and Shravan was nowhere to be seen. She heard sniffels coming from the garden adjacent to the kitchen where just two days back they had both decided they would never be married to each other. How life changes, she thought. She walked there only to see Shravan sitting on the steps, bottle in one hand, and his head in the other.
"Shravan?"
"Aa gayi tum?"
"Chalo room mai chalo. Bas hua yeh sab.."
"Wohi toh mai bhi keh raha hoon na yaar! Bas hua yeh sab.."
"Tumne bohot pee li hai, chalo oopar.."
"Abhi nahi... Dard ka ehsaas abhi shuru hua hai, peeta nahi toh dard mehsoos hi nahi hota.."
She felt like her heart had been sliced, why would he want to feel pain? Didn't people genrally drink to forget pain? And he drank to feel it.. "Shravan tumko kyun dard mehsoos karna hai.?."
He looked into her eyes earnestly, "Kyunki itni aadat ho gayi hai na ke ab bina dard neend nahi aati.." he said as a lone tear made its way down his cheek. "Tum jao so jao, mai aa jaoonga.."
"Tumne subha kaha na hum pati patni hai?" She asked wiping his tear with the palm of her hand gently. He nodded in agreement. "Toh patni kabhi bhi apne pati ka saath nahi choddti.."
"That's not true."
"Hum dost hai na?"
"Haan.."
"Apni Sumo pe bharosa hai na?"
"Haan" he said with a small smile.
"Toh mai hamesha tumhare saath rahoongi mere bevakoof chashmish.." She said running her hand through his hair while the other caressed his face.
"Pakka?"
"Tumhari kasam.."
He smiled a genuine smile, took her hand in his and kissed her palm.
"Chalo Shravan.."
"Chalo Sumo.."
She guided him to their bed and asked him to sleep.
"Ja rahi ho na chodd kar?"
Her heart broke again, this is how afraid he was that she would leave him, just like that. "Darwaza band kar rahi hoon Shravan. Abhi aayi." She shut the door and got on the bed, "Dekho aa gayi na?"
"Haan!" He made himself confortable on the bed, rested his head in her lap asking her if she was okay if he slept in her lap today. "Godi mai sar rakh ke so jaaon aj?" How could she refuse when he asked with such vulnerability. "Haan, so jao.."
She heard him mouth a soft thank you before he drifted to sleep. She wouldn't so much as catch a wink tonight. All that she got to know today was a lot to take in. He had been kidnapped but stayed mum. He had hurt so much, cause of his mother, cause of his father, cause of her and he still had the heart to love. Whatever he may have said to Aditya, he regretted it. He still loved her and she had to for the sake of that love make sure he was able to breathe without baggage. She had to make sure her Shravan got all the happiness he deserved. She would make sure he would never hurt another moment for the rest of their lives.
---------------------------
Phew!
As much as I try to keep it short, I just can't...
Too much sadness in this one na? Kya kare? Our Shravan had a very difficult life. And all his issues need to be solved before he can find happiness, this was the beginning, he's gotten talking! You'll see why it was necessary for him to get okay speaking his heart out in the next update.
Also it was necessary for Nirmala to see what damage has been done by her absence. Suman heard cause she had to know what he'd truly been through to really get to understand him. Ramnath heard cause it was important for him to see the damage can only be undone by the truth, the way it was prompted in the show was pathetic honestly. Following this there will be one more update with sadness and drama, but I will try to keep an even keel between intense and happy. And I promise to give one after that as a completely happy one. So happy that it would induce diabetes!
You'll know the drill. Do let me know what you guys think of this one. Only those that like and comment will receive PMs!
Cheers!
Zoya :D
