Have the Indian audiences become script-conscious??

Call it the over-priced tickets at the multiplexes or increasing number of unbiased reviewers and script conscious audience these days, there has been an increase in bad movies fairing equally bad at box-office. People these days dont want to go to a theater just because a beautiful face/good production value is there (BBD,Fitoor) or a superstar (Fan, MD) is there. While on the other hand we have films like Neerja, Pink with no elaborate sets or chartbuster music and still fairing so well in the cinemas. So is it safe to say we are finally moving to a period where people want intelligent films and are refusing to spend a bomb in watching just 'beautiful' things because well they will rather enjoy a meal at some new urbane cafe or shop something of utility? Is this a sign for filmmakers like the Johars, the Chopras, the Gowarikars to concentrate more on plot than production value. Nobody wants to spend a 1000 bucks for two people just for watching some part of Europe/US or watch beautiful yet expressionless faces?

Audiences are becoming more script conscious for sure. But they're not only script conscious. There is still some star culture. Makers with great scripts will still have at least 1 star in the movie, if they want it to do well and want to get people to really watch and appreciate it. Like Pink for example. I feel like it wouldn't have done as well if BigB wasn't in it, mainly because people would not have been aware of it. We do need stars for that, to generate buzz for these good stories imo.

And ofcourse Salman Khan movies always do well and they don't necessarily have the best scripts.

True! Like Aligarh might have done better at the BO if there was a star in it.
Salman movies after Kick have scripts which appeal to all sections of the audiences. So we cant call his movies entirely riding on starpower. This year only successful movie without a half decent script was HF3.

definitely
and it was about time

no kalay chashmay..no promotions..no breakup stories..will work

in fact save those extra bucks on all those

and just make a good product

nothing promotes a movie as well as a good WOM

queen
kahani
piku
and now pink

make a good product and rest happens itself
