Gone are the days when ppl would flock to theater on just a trailer. Now stars are reduced to begging for their films. How much of this is good enough for a good opening?

Begging works. Donald Trump is a good example. Without begging and hype nobody will hear about him.

If the content isn't good then no matter how much ever they beg no one would watch their movies..even they know it. All this over promotions are to ensure that they pocket respectable money in the first 2 days.

Atleast not like BBD. 😉
They should be concerned about Audience and normal people rather then just bumping here and there and making trouble for normal people.

Yes, but earlier promotions werent needed.
And why do top stars do so much promotions? Its not like ppl dont flock to theatre to catch them.

Like I said these days promotions are to ensure respectable money in first 2 days. Earlier movies used to complete 50,75,100 days in theatres now hardly they stay for 10 days as the audiences have gone fickle with all the choices thrown at them coz of smart fones, internet,SM etc.. Hence the begging.

Lack of Talent and talentless actors are suppose to promote more then it needs to make a bit hype about their chemistry. 😉

To some extent, there is no such thing as bad publicity when it comes to promotions.

Look at Udta Punjab. All that controversy with the censor board definitely helped the film.

A well-promoted film makes it easy to reach breakeven profits. It actually puts smaller films at a huge disadvantage, 'cause even if it's a good film, very few people will know about it and hence will go to watch it.

I think smaller filmmakers have to come up with some ingenious but cost-effective way of marketing their films, so it's not just the SRKs and Salmans who make the lion share of profits.

I never understood this.. will people watch movies only if there is good promotion??
why has the trend changed? I never see my friends saying, "chalo, lets watch this, it was amazing how Katrina-Sid promoted, and danced on Kala Chasma in that mall"...??

It's a double edged sword. Too much promotion hypes the movie. Raises the expectations and when it doesn't match expectations, it falls badly.

If you don't promote enough , people may not see it Coz there isn't enough buzz.

I pity movie makers. There is no clear answer.
