Malika, it's not just in India. In parts of Latin America, the legal age of marriage is as young as 13 and these children are forced into physical relations with their husbands, sometimes much older. They become mothers soon after. It is rampant in countries like Guatemala and Brazil under parental consent. Parents, in a lot of the cases, give their consent because of poverty and fear brought about by gang culture.
This might be surprising for some people, because it is more surprising for me too but I was not aware that Marital Rape on a woman whose age is more than 16 years is not considered a crime in India š² I feel shocked on my unawareness and ashamed at our countries law. Thanks to all this discussion I googled about it and came to know. I mean like really?? What kind of country do we live in. So I read about so many cases where women were forced to have sex even when they were admitted in hospitals 𤢠And our law doesn't consider this kind of abuse as a crime???PATHETIC!
I mean yes I do understand that every person has sexual needs and a marriage wont be complete without that aspect but dude we do have laws in place where you can divorce your husband or wife in case they deny you your sexual needs. And that makes a lot of sense. But not considering marital rape as crime is a crime in itself.
